<p>Conflat Wagon GWR Grey 39230 w/ AF Container GWR White
We are all familiar with the modern use of containers to move large volumes of freight, but the concept is not a new one as the railway companies of Great Britain began moving goods by the container load before the Second World War. The Great Western Railway (GWR) was an early adopter and the flat bed wagons that it built to carry containers were given the telegraphic code Conflats – a name that stuck. Various containers were built which could be loaded onto the Conflats which had a capacity of two type A containers, or one of the larger type Bs. Containers might be loaded with furniture or bulk goods, or in the case of the type AF containers that were insulated, perishables that needed to stay cool like fresh fish and meat.
This Graham Farish model comprises a Conflat Wagon and separate AF Container, allowing the wagon to run loaded or empty while the container also makes an excellent scenic accessory, ideal for a busy goods facility when not employed as a load for the Conflat. Both items are precision moulded with the wagon featuring a planked deck and fine details like the lashing points and chain pocket lids. The container meanwhile boasts an array of moulded details from the lifting points on the roof to the body framing, door hinges and locking mechanisms, plus more lashing points. The Conflat&amp;rsquo;s chassis is similarly detailed, being fitted with separate brake gear, brake handles and vacuum cylinders, complete with the linkage between the two &amp;lsquo;V&amp;rsquo; hangers. Metal wheels and axles are employed, along with turned metal buffers; meanwhile the couplings are fitted via NEM coupling pockets allowing full interchangeability for those wishing to use an alternative coupling system.

<p>HYA Bogie Hopper Wagon GBRf Silver &#039;Coal&#039; 371030
The HYA Bogie Hopper Wagons were introduced from 2007 to transport coal to the UK&amp;rsquo;s coal-fired powers station. In later years, as the country transitioned away from burning coal the wagons were made redundant and found a new use moving biomass for which they were recoded IIA.
The imposing wagons are reproduced faithfully in N scale using an injection moulded bodyshell, complete with interior partitions within the hopper, and hopper doors suspended from the underframe. Further details are added in the form of handwheels, lamp irons, buffers and separate pipe runs, and metal weights are fitted above each bogie for smooth and assured running. Those bogies are finely-moulded replicas of the prototype, fitted with metal wheelsets and with standard N scale couplings fitted into the NEM coupling pockets. The real wagons had a bare metal finish which is replicated on the Graham Farish model along with GBRf branding and the word &amp;lsquo;coal&amp;rsquo; at one end. The outline of the former FirstGroup logos can also be seen, harking back to the time when the GBRf was owned by the group and operated as First GBRf.

<p>IIA Bogie Hopper Wagon GBRf (VTG) Silver 37706955220-8
The IIA Bogie Hopper Wagons started life as HYA Coal Hoppers, introduced from 2007 to deliver the fuel needed to run coal-fired power stations. However, as the UK transitioned away from using coal as the fuel for its power stations, the wagons became redundant and were re-employed on biomass trains, being recoded as IIAs in the process.
Owned by VTG Rail but operated by GBRf, the real wagons had a bare metal finish which is replicated on the Graham Farish model along with GBRf and VTG branding. The outline of the former FirstGroup logos can also be seen, harking back to the time when the GBRf was owned by the group and operated as First GBRf.

<p>BR Mk1 POS Royal Mail Travelling Post Office Red 80318
This Graham Farish model of a POS coach carries all the hallmarks of this iconic design, the distinctive profile of the Mk1 coach is captured to a tee from the bodysides to the roof where finely moulded ventilators can be found. On the bodysides the handles and grab handles surrounding each door are moulded precisely, whilst the handrails aside each loading door are separate metal wire fittings. At either end, the corridor gangway is complete with lamp irons on either side and within, the corridor doors are modelled with the two small windows that is flush glazed – in the same way all of the windows on the model are. Metal grab handles are added to each end individually and metal toilet filler pipes extend to the roof. Footboards are included on the solebars below each door whilst the underframe sports a full complement of equipment, with the truss rod frames modelled in all their glory and flanked by battery boxes, vacuum cylinders and other auxiliary equipment.
The bogies are fitted with metal wheelsets, whilst the standard N scale coupling is attached via a NEM coupling pocket to the close coupling mechanism that is fitted to the carriage floor, operating in tandem with the bogie. The icing on the cake is the livery application, using authentic colours, logos and fonts to give every model an exquisite appearance.

<p>8 Plank Wagon End Door &#039;Modern Transport Liverpool&#039; Grey 1206
Britain&amp;rsquo;s Railways were developed primarily to move freight and by the early twentieth century, hundreds of independent companies were operating their own wagons to transport their goods around the UK by rail. Fleet sizes ranged from small concerns with a single wagon to large enterprises whose wagon count could run into the hundreds. The majority of wagons in private ownership were wooden bodied open wagons and by far the most common commodity that they carried was coal, although other materials, including coke, minerals and aggregates might also be transported depending on the nature of business conducted by the wagon&amp;rsquo;s owner.
Various types of 8 Plank Wagon were built, and this Graham Farish model depicts one with fixed ends, unloading would therefore be via the side doors and bottom discharge doors, which on the model are neatly engraved into the wagon&amp;rsquo;s bodyshell which is moulded with crisp plank lines and ironwork detailing. Below the solebar the W irons, axleboxes and springs are all reproduced to great effect, with separate brakes and brake leavers and metal door stops completing the look. The model runs on spoked wheels which are of metal construction whilst metal buffers adorn the bufferbeams. Authentic colours and typefaces are employed during the livery application prototype, completing this high-fidelity model.

The 24T Iron Ore hopper was ordered by BR in 1950 and rather unusually, all 1500 to diagram 1/162 were constructed by outside contractors. The Graham Farish model faithfully replicates this historic wagon and is offered here in a vibrant red livery of Stanton.

<p>BR Carflat Wagon BR Bauxite &#039;B748719&#039;
Carflat Wagons allowed cars to be transported by rail, a practice that had started during the early twentieth century but which became more common after World War Two as more families began realising the dream of owning their own motor vehicle. Many were built from old coach underframes that had had their bodies scrapped, with the type really coming to the fore in 1966 when British Rail launched its Motorail service, providing British holidaymakers with long distance train services where they could take their car on holiday with them, giving the convenience of independent transport whilst on holiday but without the long drive to get there.
This Graham Farish model depicts a BR-built Carflat, which to all intents and purposes is a standard BR Mk1 coach underframe running on a pair of BR B1 bogies. The deck of the vehicle is planked, and low side railings are fitted to prevent vehicles from accidentally driving off the side. Unlike a Mk1 coach, the underside of the vehicle is not overly populated but still features the typical truss frame along with vacuum brake cylinders and, unlike Mk1 coaches, has hand brake levers. The standard N scale couplings fit into NEM coupling pockets that are mounted on close coupling mechanisms, providing close coupling between vehicles but without restricting their use on curves, while metal wheelsets are fitted to the bogies to complete the model.

China Clay Wagons were synonymous with Cornwall where the largest deposit of Kaolin, known more commonly as china clay, had first been discovered in 1746 by William Cookworthy. The resulting industry made Cornwall the pre-eminent global source of china clay and as railways were established, they were used to transport the material both locally and further afield, to destinations where the material was required, like the Staffordshire potteries.
The GWR, and subsequently BR, built open wagons like the one depicted by this Graham Farish model specifically for china clay traffic. With a 9ft wheelbase and 12T capacity, the wooden planked body sat on top of a metal underframe and our model reflects this, with fine detailing engraved and moulded onto the body. The chassis meanwhile incorporates brake gear and sports tie-bars between the axleboxes, along with metal door bangers and turned metal buffers. Spoked metal wheels and NEM coupling pockets complete the model, which is finished in a beautiful and authentic rendition of the GWR Grey livery.

<p>3 Plank Wagon &#039;London Transport&#039; Grey &#039;B.W.260&#039;
Britain&amp;rsquo;s railways were developed primarily to move freight and over time, a wide range of wagons were developed to suit the varied cargo that the railway companies had been contracted to transport. Among them were short wheelbase, 3 plank open wagons which had hinged sides allowing them to be lowered, aiding the loading and unloading of cargo. The goods carried by such wagons was varied and could range from loose loads like minerals and aggregate to crates, barrels and even single pieces of machinery or equipment. Basically, anything that could tolerate being exposed to the elements could be carried, although loads could also be sheeted if necessary to offer some protection from weather and general railway dirt.
The 3 Plank Wagon depicted by this Graham Farish model is created using an injection moulded wagon body, incorporating hinges along each edge and with securing chains represented at each corner. The wooden deck of the wagon is depicted with crisp engraving to define the separate wooden planks, and this level of detail extends to the wagon&amp;rsquo;s planked sides, both on the inner and outer faces. Below the solebar the W irons, axleboxes and springs are all reproduced to great effect, complete with separate brakes and brake levers. The model runs on spoked wheels which are of metal construction whilst metal buffers adorn the bufferbeams. Authentic colours and typefaces are employed during the livery application process, completing this high-fidelity model.

<p>JGA Bogie Hopper Buxton Lime Industries &#039;BLI19215&#039;
The JGA Bogie Hoppers were built in Slovakia in the mid-1990s for Buxton Lime Industries and Tilcon, primarily working from Tunstead Quarry, operated by Buxton Lime Industries, near Buxton on the edge of the Peak District. Consisting of a large hopper with three pairs of bottom discharge doors, the wagons were used to transport lime products from the quarry for distribution around the UK.
Reproduced in N Scale by Graham Farish, the JGA model features a precision moulded bodyshell which captures the wagon&amp;rsquo;s distinctive sloping ends with their ribbed constructed. Below the solebar, the three sets of discharge doors are added separately, meanwhile a metal weight is concealed above each bogie to ensure smooth running. The bogies themselves are fitted with metal wheels and axles whilst the integrated NEM coupling pockets allow alternative couplings to be fitted with ease. The eye catching white and blue livery faithfully adorns the model, complete with the various markings and operating instructions that are found on the real wagons.

<p>BR 12T Plywood Fruit Van Late Bauxite Fyffes &#039;B875823&#039;
British Railways (BR) inherited a wide range of rolling stock upon Nationalisation in 1948, much of which was aging or in need of modern replacement and so a programme to build new vehicles soon commenced. These new vehicles were built to a variety of standardised designs, for covered vans most of the new designs centred around a 10ft wheelbase chassis with a metal and wood body on top. Alongside general merchandise vans, several specialist types were built including the 12 Ton Fruit Van which employed a metal chassis whilst the van was constructed from a pair of corrugated metal ends, each with a ventilator at the top. The metal body frame was panelled with plywood sheets, and four small ventilators were fitted along the bottom of each side to ventilate the cargo. As the name suggests, the vans were built to transport fruit but in later years they also found use moving general merchandise.
The Graham Farish model is a faithful replica of the BR design, using a precision moulded body that accurately captures the corrugated ends, plywood sides and ventilators, along with finer details like the body framing, door hinges and locking mechanisms. The roof includes the characteristic rain strips above each set of double doors and the rivets securing the roof are neatly moulded at either end. The chassis is similarly detailed, being fitted with separate brake gear, brake handles and vacuum cylinders, complete with the linkage between the two &amp;lsquo;V&amp;rsquo; hangers. Metal wheels and axles are employed, along with turned metal buffers; meanwhile for the first time the couplings are fitted via NEM coupling pockets allowing full interchangeability for those wishing to use an alternative coupling system.

British Railways (BR) inherited a wide range of rolling stock upon Nationalisation in 1948, much of which was aging or in need of modern replacement and so a programme to build new vehicles soon commenced. These new vehicles were built to a variety of standardised designs and the 12 Ton Ventilated Van, which was used to transport general merchandise, was one of the most numerous types of freight vehicle built by BR. Employing a metal chassis, the van was constructed from corrugated metal ends with a ventilator in each, with a metal body frame which was panelled with wood. All manner of merchandise could be transported whilst remaining protected from the elements, and some vans could also be adorned with marketing posters for the products that may be contained within – in the case of this example ICI Fertilizer branding is applied.
The Graham Farish model is a faithful replica of the humble 12T Van, using a precision moulded body that accurately captures the corrugated ends and planked sides, along with finer details like the body framing, door hinges and locking mechanisms. <p>BR 20T Brake Van BR Railfreight Red &amp;amp; Grey B955247 (N)
The BR Standard 20 Ton Brake Van is a classic vehicle and a must for any freight collection or goods yard scene. A mandatory requirement as part of all goods trains until 1968, and in use well into the 1980s with unfitted trains and other selected services, the brake van provided braking facilities and offered the Guard a refuge from the elements in which to stay warm and dry, whilst observing operations via the end windows or side duckets.

<p>SE&amp;amp;CR 25T &#039;Dance Hall&#039; Brake Van BR Departmental Olive Green &#039;DS55464&#039;
Never before available in N scale, this Graham Farish model depicts the South Eastern and Chatham Railway&amp;rsquo;s (SE&amp;amp;CR) 25 Ton Goods Brake which became known as the &amp;lsquo;Dance Halls&amp;rsquo; owing to the spacious cabin provided for the Guard. Designed and built by the SE&amp;amp;CR, the Southern Railway (SR) built further examples after Grouping before designing their own version – the 25 Ton &amp;lsquo;Pill Box&amp;rsquo; Brake Van (models of which are also produced by Graham Farish) – which afforded a Guard much less covered accommodation. Whilst the final example was built during the 1920s, the Dance Halls were long lived with some surviving through to the late-twentieth century having been granted a second life in departmental use.
The model carries a wealth of detail, from the finely moulded planking of the body sides and ends, to the underframe which features brake and spring detail on the underside. The glazed cabin affords views inside, and through the whole length of the model, which is adorned with numerous separately fitted parts, like the metal handrails and the distinctive foot boards which stretch the length of the vehicle.

The glazed cabin affords views inside, and through the whole length of the model, which is adorned with numerous separately fitted parts, like the metal handrails and the distinctive foot boards which stretch the length of the vehicle.

<p>BR HEA Hopper Wagon BR Bauxite &#039;361728&#039;
The HEA Hopper Wagons were introduced following the success of the HAA Coal Hoppers which were first used in the mid-1960s to deliver coal to power stations as part of the then-new Merry-Go-Round (MGR) trains. The first wagons were built in the mid-1970s as HBAs, but as construction progressed, the design was changed, and the code HEA was used for later batches. The HBAs were subsequently modified to match the HEAs and recoded, giving a total fleet of almost 2,000 HEAs.
The wagons replaced ageing wooden- and steel-bodied wagons, delivering household coal to local terminals and reaching all corners of the UK. The HEAs worked in both mixed freight and block train formations.
With the demand for household coal in decline, HEAs were used to transport other minerals, like rock salt, and many were rebuilt or recoded, for example some were used as Nuclear Barrier Wagons (RNAs) with their hoppers removed, or box wagons (MEAs) with new box bodies to carry a variety of bulk loads.

<p>BR 16T Steel Mineral Wagon with Top Flap Doors BR Grey [W] B168339
Coal fuelled Britain during the twentieth century and much of this fuel was transported by rail. The 16 Ton Steel Mineral Wagon began as a wartime design, but following Nationalisation hundreds of thousands of these humble four wheel wagons would be ordered by BR to move coal around the UK, replacing the wooden-bodied wagons that had been inherited from the &amp;lsquo;Big Four&amp;rsquo; railway companies and private owners.
This Graham Farish model depicts a wagon with end doors, and side doors which have top flaps – this aided manual unloading in coal yards – and the model features separately fitted door stops, brake gear, linkage and hand brake levers, and is fitted with metal buffers.

<p>BR OBA Open Wagon Low Ends EWS (Unbranded) Running No. 110353
Designed as a replacement for the Tube Wagons – many of which BR had inherited at Nationalisation or built themselves during the early-BR period – the OBA Open Wagon was designed to transport general merchandise. Large side doors aided loading and various tethering points were integrated into the floors of these air-braked wagons. The Graham Farish model is available with Low or High Ends – this particular example depicts a wagon with Low Ends – and features fine mouldings throughout, in particular the door stops, separately fitted brake equipment and handbrake levers, and metal buffer heads.

This Graham Farish model features finely moulded catwalks, end ladders and footsteps and separately fitted brake gear, linkage and hand brake levers.

<p>BR 16T Steel Mineral Wagon with Top Flap Doors BR Grey [W]

Vehicle information and history:
Built by British Rail, these Bogie Ballast Hoppers were some of the largest wagons in the engineer&amp;rsquo;s fleet. Like most engineer&amp;rsquo;s wagons, these ballast hoppers received aquatic names and were usually known as Seacows or Sealions, but in this case the wagon has been branded &amp;lsquo;Stingray&amp;rsquo;.
Used to carry ballast to work sites where it would be discharged via the chutes at the bottom of the hopper, these Graham Farish models capture every intricate detail of the prototype from the hopper doors to the six separately fitted handwheels that controlled their operation. Added at each end are several separate handrails, along with etched platforms whilst underframe steps and other adornments are also included.
Transrail Grey adorns this example, making a fine addition to any post-Privatisation scene.</p></description>
