Oxford Diecast Land Rover Defender LWB - British Gas (N)

Land Rover Defender LWB - British Gas (N) Land Rover introduced the Defender in the early 1980s as a rugged, versatile four-wheel drive, all terrain vehicle and with cargo capacity for a wealth of equipment or baggage, the Defender could handle anything. Registered E203 PWR from 1987, our long wheel base version is decorated in the signature blue and white livery of British Gas at that time.  Deployed with British Gas North Eastern, as depicted on the cab doors, the body is white with royal blue lower body and roof and featuring fine lighter blue/aquamarine stripes along the waist.  The interior is black and exterior trim features both black and silver finish. The matt black radiator grille has the Land Rover 110 name above in the centre while the spare wheel is fixed to the centre of the back door.

Oxford Diecast Ford Cortina Mk5 - Cosmos Blue (1:76)

Ford Cortina Mk5 - Cosmos Blue (1:76) Our model represents the last in the Ford of Great Britain Cortina series in real life, which dominated the British road scene from the early 1960s to the early 1980s. Ford launched the Mk 5 - an upgraded Mk IV - in August 1979. Marketed as a medium sized family car with prices starting at £3,475, the visible differences included revised headlights incorporating larger indicators, a slatted front grille, a flattened roof, slimmer C-pillars and revised vent cover.  The interior also benefited from detailed changes, including the dashboard and centre console. Improvements were also made to the engine range resulting in better fuel economy and power output. The 2.3-litre V6 engine was given electronic ignition and a slight boost in power output to 116 bhp, compared with the 108 bhp Mark IV. Ford also added improved corrosion protection on Mark V models, which is probably why more have survived. Our 1:76 scale vehicle tooling incorporates the upgraded external features of the real car and is registered FOL 414V from 1979. It is decorated in bright blue with black roof, pillars and window surrounds.  The black finish also extends to the side sills and radiator grille.  The interior is moulded in a rich brown with black trim while a final exterior detail sees the 1.6 GL  printed in silver on the boot lid. Grand Luxury indeed.

Oxford Diecast Austin Maestro - London Fire Brigade (1:76)

Austin Maestro - London Fire Brigade (1:76) Introduced in 1983, the Maestro was a 5-door family hatchback, produced by British Leyland at their Morris Cowley works. It had a 5-speed manual gearbox and a basic 1.3L engine rising to 1.6L on later models. It incorporated many innovative features for its time. It had a bonded laminated windscreen, homofocal headlights, body-coloured plastic bumpers, an electronic engine management system, adjustable front seat belt anchorage positions, an asymmetrically split rear seat and a 12.000 mile service interval. Here we see it in a commercial role, as a support vehicle for the London Fire Brigade, registered B576 WYO from 1984. Looking at the signature badge on the back, the Brigade chose the top of the range 1.6L which was probably necessary given its purpose. The bright red body colour is in sharp contrast to the black trim, while the wheels are silver with black dots.  The interior seating is mid grey.  The Maestro has an alphanumeric ID -  C435 printed in front of the front wheel arch and London Fire Brigade along the edge of the bonnet and across the boot. The highly colourful London Fire Brigade crest with London Fire Brigade GLC lettering beneath is printed on both the front doors.

Oxford Diecast Austin 1300 GT - Aqua (1:76)

Austin 1300 GT - Aqua (1:76) BMC unveiled the front engine, front-wheel drive Austin/Morris 1300 GT at the London Motor Show in 1969. Designed by the legendary Alec Issigonis, key features included a 1275 cc twin carburettor engine, a black full width grille, black vinyl roof and a thick black metal strip along the side, all designed to convey a sporty image. In 1971 the Mark III version appeared, lasting in production until 1974 when the range was superseded by the Austin Allegro and the Vanden Plas 1500. A popular model in our Oxford 1:76 series, this colour scheme on the Austin 1300 GT is a delightful watery shade of blue with black roof and lots of silver masking. Registered RVB 740L from 1972, our 1:76 scale replica sports a steel blue interior with black dashboard and steering wheel. Further details include the Austin name is printed at the top of the black and silver radiator grille, with its GT status is printed in red on the grille and also behind the rear side windows. The boot lid carries the 1300 GT marque to the right of the rear registration plate.

Corgi Ford Cortina Mk5 2.0 Ghia S Sirius Red (1:43)

Ford Cortina Mk5 2.0 Ghia S Sirius Red (1:43) The Cortina modelled was ordered by Harry Cooper, the MD of a Derbyshire-based joinery firm, and built in Germany in late 1979. It was supplied by Hanger Ford, Wellford Road, Leicester, on 14th February 1980, and aside from being finished in a rare colour that was only offered for a short time, it is unusual in that he ordered every available option.  These included a sump guard, remote boot release, cruise control and economy lights embedded in the speedometer. Mr Cooper sold it when it was almost five years old, and its second owner kept it for twenty-five years, asking the supplying dealer to fit a Type-9 5-speed Sierra gearbox early in his tenure. By 2009, it had covered 120,000 miles and was purchased by South Wales-based enthusiast Alan Downs for £1,000. He initially used it daily before deciding to restore this uniquely specified car. He stripped it completely and was pleased to find it only needed one new front wing, before having it resprayed.  He fitted as many Ford new old stock parts as possible, powder-coated numerous components, and returned it to the road in spring 2012. It won several prizes at Ford shows but a change in his family circumstances led to its purchase by Ford enthusiast Bruce DiMario from Dorset, in 2013. He rebuilt the noisy back axle before selling the now perfect car to longstanding North Wales-based Ford collector Ian Mills, in May 2014.

Corgi McDonnell Douglas Phantom II FG.1 XV582 'Black Mike' (1:48)

McDonnell Douglas Phantom II FG.1 XV582 'Black Mike' No.111 Squadron RAF Leuchars ‘Black Arrows’ Aerobatic Display Team (1:48) When it comes to RAF aircraft which have benefitted from the application of special commemorative schemes, there’s one machine which still enjoys legendary status amongst Britain’s army of aviation enthusiasts, Phantom FG.1 ‘Black Mike’.  An aircraft which had recently transferred to the care of RAF No.111 Squadron at Leuchars, XV582 was selected to receive this unique scheme as the squadron wanted to mark both the RAF service of the Phantom, and the heritage of their famous unit, heritage which included the ‘Black Arrows’ Aerobatic Display Team.  Between 1955 and 1960, this team flew aerobatic demonstrations in their gloss black painted Hawker Hunter jets at Airshows all over Britain, including the Farnborough show in 1958, where the team captured a world record by looping 22 Hunters in formation.  In commemoration of this, XV582 was given this smart all-over gloss black scheme, initially for just a static ‘At Home’ Airshow appearance at Leuchars in 1989, but proved so popular that she exhausted her remaining airframe hours the following year as Treble One squadron’s display aircraft.  Known as ‘Black Mike’ because of her colour and her squadron letter, XV582 became the aircraft every RAF pilot wanted to fly, but with her Airshow commitments and low remaining flying hours, only a fortunate few managed to do so.  Making her final flight on 22nd September 1990, ‘Black Mike’ was retired to become a static star of many a Leuchars Airshow, but always retaining her iconic status with aviation enthusiasts.

Douglas™ AC-47 Gunship 43-49770 'Spooky 71' Vietnam 1969 (1:72)   In the dark night skies over Vietnam, a terrifying new weapon had been introduced by American forces trying to protect their troops on the ground, a combination of older aeroplanes and cutting edge technology that resulted in the creation of fire spewing dragons capable of laying down 6,000 rounds of suppressing fire every minute.  The venerable Douglas C-47 Skytrain had been modified to become one of the most feared weapons of the conflict, however, ‘Spooky’ crews wouldn’t always have it their own way. On the night of 24th February 1969, the crew of gunship 43-49770 ‘Spooky 71’ had been called to provide fire support for troop under attack at Long Binh, but whilst doing so, their aircraft had taken a direct mortar round hit in the right wing, resulting in a gaping hole and the aircraft being peppered with 3,500 shrapnel holes.  The aircraft lurched violently and the fire crew were thrown off their feet, all suffering from multiple shrapnel wounds. Bleeding profusely, Airman First Class John Levitow could see one of his crewmates was in danger of falling out of the open cargo door, and fought through the pain of his wounds to drag him to a safer position.  Unfortunately, he also saw that the flare his colleague had been trying to throw out of the aircraft prior to the mortar hit had blown back into the cabin and was smoking, about to detonate. He threw his body on top of the flare and slowly ushered it towards the open door using his last reserves of strength, rolling it into the night sky seconds before it detonated.  For his heroic, selfless actions which saved both his aircraft and crewmates, John Levitow was rightfully awarded the Medal of Honor. Despite the drama and devastation in the night sky above the Long Binh US Army post, the aircraft did manage to make it back to its home base safely, where ground crews were able to assess the damage from the mortar strike, and count every one of the 3,500 shrapnel holes which peppered the wings and fuselage of the aircraft.

This extraordinary feat earned him the Distinguished Service Cross.   Whisner's second DSC came on New Year's Day 1945 during the Luftwaffe's audacious 'Operation Bodenplatte' raid, when 65 enemy fighters attacked airfield Y-29 Asch in Belgium. Taking off in his faithful Mustang 'Moonbeam McSWINE', he immediately engaged approaching enemy aircraft. Before his undercarriage had fully retracted, he was already firing at a Focke Wulf Fw190, sending it crashing to the ground.     Moments later, enemy cannon shells struck his fighter, but despite the damage, Whisner refused to disengage. He stayed with his battered Mustang to claim a second Focke Wulf and two Messerschmitt Bf109s destroyed, bringing his total victory score to 15.5 aircraft. These would be Whisner's final victories of the Second World War, but his combat career was far from over.    He went on to become one of only seven US airmen to achieve ace status during the Korean War, this time flying the North American F-86A/E Sabre jet, cementing his place among the most accomplished fighter pilots in American military history.

The final artistic touches were completed during the Group Commander's absence from base, allowing the dedicated ground crew to fully express their talents.  Notably, "Virginia Marie" became the only Lightning in the 433rd Fighter Squadron to receive its complete intended paint scheme, making this aircraft a unique and celebrated example of wartime nose art and unit pride.

This defensive network proved devastatingly effective, shooting down almost every aircraft sent against the target.  This particular 'Blitz Bomber' participated in the autumn 1944 attacks on the Waal bridge but failed to deliver a decisive strike, hampered by both intense defensive fire and the Me 262's general unsuitability as an accurate strike bomber.  The aircraft's incredible speed, whilst an asset in fighter operations, made precision bombing extremely difficult, highlighting the folly of misusing this extraordinary machine.

However, unlike its European counterparts which proved highly adaptable to successive upgrades, the Zero's design would eventually be surpassed by more advanced Allied fighters.    The Japanese Navy's nomenclature system designated this aircraft as the A6M, identifying it as the 6th carrier fighter type to enter service, with the M denoting Mitsubishi as manufacturer. The Type 21 variant introduced a crucial innovation: folding wing tips that enabled more efficient operations from Japanese navy carriers. Approximately 3,700 of these aircraft were produced, with manufacturing split between Mitsubishi and Nakajima.    Formed on 1st October 1943, the 381st Kokutai operated as a fighter-bomber unit supporting Japanese ground forces engaged in brutal combat against American and Australian troops.    By May 1944, the unit found itself fighting a desperate attritional battle against superior Allied air forces in West Papua, with reinforcements a distant hope and the outcome grimly inevitable.

Ford Transit Beavertail Recovery 24hr Recovery The Ford Motor Company introduced the Ford Transit commercial ‘family’ of vehicles in 1965.  And the brand is still going strong today, having evolved physically and mechanically along the way with numerous configurations and uses.  The Transit name itself has become a generic term for small commercial vehicles and here at Oxford Diecast, we have kept up with all the changes to shapes and uses along the way. Our latest introduction is the simple Ford Transit recovery/breakdown version which features a two-door Ford Transit cab and long trailer, designed especially for rescuing vehicles from the roadside It is registered FCR 238L from  1971 so it is quite early in the Ford Transit’s evolution.  Painted completely in white, the graphics clearly state in red and orange its 24 hour recovery facility. The exterior trim is black apart from the platform which is silver. The interior is also black. An additional tooling modification comprises a pyramid style roof box with an orange beacon above the cab. Add your own 1:76 scale ‘rescued’ vehicle to the platform for added realism. - OO/1:76 Scale

Oxford Diecast Burrell Scenic Showmans Loco Winston Churchill (1:76)

Burrell Scenic Showmans Loco Winston Churchill As countrywide fairs and steam rallies roll in for the summer season, it is a wonderful opportunity to take another trip down memory lane with Oxford’s Showmans series. Our new release on the Burrell Scenic Loco is absolutely splendid too. The colourful steam locomotive started its real life in 1922, commissioned by Holland Bros. It was designed with a longer boiler and an electric dynamo, especially for powering fairground use. It was delivered to them to power Albert Holland’s Peacock and Dragon Scenic Ride. The locomotive was originally named Prince Albert which was changed in preservation to Winston Churchill. Around 1952, the late Eric Middleton bought the locomotive directly from the Hollands in Swadlincote, Derbyshire for about £250. Having lain derelict and abandoned for some years, the locomotive was in very bad condition. However, Eric restored the engine completely and sold it to the Hardwick family who rallied it extensively in the 1980s. It is now owned by the Marchington family.  The 1:76 scale model appears in crimson with a white roof and black masking. Dropped shadow lettering along the edge of the roof promote the Holland’s Golden Dragons; the Winston Churchill nameplate features in gold and red on the locomotive side.  Also in red and gold, the front of the boiler carries the customary C Burrell & Sons Engineers Ltd name and The “Burrell Road Locomotive” lettering. It is estimated that each of the Oxford Showmans series models requires at least 100 printing operations and it is easy to see why.  There is illustrious decoration and colour throughout, resulting in another desirable steam locomotive to light up your fairground diorama. - OO/1:76 Scale

Daimler Fleetline DMS Brighton Corporation 91 Driver Trainer The Daimler Fleetline DMS had its origins in a nationwide move towards One-Man Operation (OMO) buses in the late 1960s and early 1970s, replacing the tried-and-tested ‘driver and conductor’ crews that had been the staple for many years. London Transport (LT) was no exception, and as such began to explore the benefits that OMO might bring by trialling Leyland Atlanteans and Daimler Fleetlines. It was the latter that would go on to form the basis of an all-new London bus – the DMS. The first of the new DMSs entered service in January 1971 working on Routes 95 and 220. They were powered by Gardner 6LXB engines and bodied by Park Royal Vehicles, with full OMO considerations included. Passengers would enter through a set of double folding doors at the front, opposite the driver, and immediately pass through an Automatic Fare-Collection (AFC) turnstile (located over the nearside front wheel arch) to gain access to the seating. Exit was via a second set of doors located centrally on the nearside of the body. Building on the popularity of the ‘Routemaster’ tag, London Transport named the new type the ‘Londoner’, but it never caught on, and they were simply referred to as Fleetlines or DMSs. A total of 2,646 would be built between 1970 and 1978; the design evolving during that time, culminating in the B20 type. However, the DMS was never popular with passengers owing to the slower boarding times caused by the AFC equipment, and they proved equally unpopular with garage staff, so much so that the first started to be withdrawn the year after the last was delivered. Our new models represent those built in the first batch, identified by the narrower position of the headlights. This example represents the former DMS132 in its post-London guise as Brighton Corporation No. 91. This vehicle was acquired to serve as a driver trainer, and for many years could be seen around the south coast resort as a mobile recruitment advert. It survives today with the Bromley Bus Preservation Group. Oxford Diecast VW T1 Samba Bus Yellow/White (1:76)

VW T1 Samba Bus Yellow/White The VW T1 Samba Bus, with its split windscreen and a wide variety of two-tone colour schemes, is a firm favourite amongst collectors and this bright variation will undoubtedly continue the trend. In real life, it was the top of the range in luxury and style, based on the original first generation VW T1 of 1951. Decorated with a bright yellow body and matching wheels, the upper body is painted white including the roof, which incorporates a grey-beige roof panel, replicating the canvas original. The interior is moulded in light cream, including the seats and steering wheel while the dashboard is finished in a rich brown. Exterior trim is chrome and black and the deep white V, trimmed with chrome at the front, also features the VW logo in the centre. Our Samba Bus is registered YFR 278. Ford Transit Mk.4 RAC The Ford Transit Mk4 represented the 3rd generation of the vehicle in real life, spanning the years from 2000 to 2006.  This vehicle was different in that it had been designed in the USA and contained many cutting edge features; it came with automatic transmission; front or rear wheel drive; more cargo space and greater towing capacity. An option on rear wheel drive models included controls mounted on the dashboard, a specially adapted manual mode, tow-haul mode, economy mode and winter mode. All of these plus points would have made it an ideal vehicle for the RAC, whose key role is helping motorists in distress in all conditions and sometimes over difficult terrain. Our model is registered VE03 GGZ from 2003 and is decorated in the ultra modern bright orange with red and white chevron back with a blue and white panel promoting the RAC. To the sides and front, the printed information is in white against the orange ground, as well as a dark blue and white panel masked along the sides. A notable feature is the clever way in which the offside front wing chevron decals have been printed over the curved surface – it is absolutely flush!  The van interior is moulded completely black. A final tooling modification on this release sees the addition of a roof bar positioned right at the back of the roof – authentic down to the final detail! - 1:76 Scale

Leyland Atlantean Open Top East Yorkshire NBC 904 932GTA The well-known bus operator, Devon General, began operating regular open top bus tours of the Torbay area in the summer of 1955 using vehicles converted from conventional double deckers. However, in 1961 these were replaced by a fleet of nine specially built Leyland Atlanteans with Metro-Cammell bodies, each seating 75 passengers. The nine were named after historical naval and maritime figures such as Sir Francis Drake and Sir John Hawkins, and soon earned the nickname ‘Sea Dogs’; a term Devon General even adopted for its own marketing. In their distinctive cream and red livery, they became a familiar sight on the 12A-12D routes serving Torquay, Paignton, Brixham, Babbacombe and Kingswear, and carried generations of holidaymakers for the next 20 years. They were built as convertibles, with detachable roofs, meaning that they could operate as normal double deckers during the low season.  Upon nationalisation in 1969 Devon General became part of the new National Bus Company (NBC) but was amalgamated with the Western National Omnibus Company (itself part of the NBC) two years later. Under NBC the Sea Dogs were repainted into a poppy red and white livery, and also converted to one-man operation. They initially carried Devon General branding, but this was later superseded by Western National and other NBC liveries as their duties took them further afield into Cornwall and Dorset. Gradually their names disappeared too. Withdrawal commenced in 1982, and the Sea Dogs went their separate ways, finding use in places including London, Lancashire, East Yorkshire and Glasgow. Our model depicts registration 932GTA (originally ‘Earl Howe’) in its circa 1984 condition as working for East Yorkshire NBC in the Bridlington area. It is finished in NBC’s striking white and blue ‘venetian blind’ livery, complete with East Yorkshire branding, fleet number 904 and the name ‘Belvedere Star’. The front blind carries a service 100 to Bridlington destination. Like our 2025 ‘Sea Dogs’, the model comprises an amalgamation of new and refreshed tooling, with the enhanced lower deck benefiting from the addition of panel lines and mirrors. The upper deck is fitted with metal handrails around the top edge and has the original high position front route blind, while at the back that later style of engine bustle is fitted; the first time this combination has featured on an EFE Road ‘Sea Dog’. Corgi Range Rover Classic Velar, Tuscan Blue, 2 door (1:43)

Range Rover Classic Velar, Tuscan Blue, 2 door (British Motor Museum) It’s appropriate that the first model to be produced using CORGI Vanguards’ new tooling for the original Range Rover is YVB 153H, chassis number 35500003A; effectively chassis number 3. This vehicle was the first Range Rover that came off the production line to the final production specification, and was one of 28 pre-production chassis, but only 27 bodyshells, as one driveable chassis was kept for development work.  It was hand-finished ahead of the two earlier chassis numbers by 17th of December 1969, because photographer Alan Luckett wanted a blue car for launch photography. It also starred in the brilliantly titled dealership launch film, ‘A Car for All Reasons’. It was retained by Rover until early 1972 then sold to William Ellis Garages, Oswestry, and by the late 1980s was owned by Norwegian photographer Per Lochen.  As the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust’s vehicle collection was growing in the early 1990s, ahead of their 1993 move to what is now the British Motor Museum at Gaydon, they realised they lacked an early Range Rover, and 153H was tracked down. In late 1991, a deal was struck with Lochen to acquire this historically important car, which by this time was in a poor state.  It was restored to its original ‘launch’ specification in 2006 by the Museum, and has since featured in anniversary displays, as well as TV programmes and magazine articles. - 1:43 Scale

Corgi Ford Escort Mk2 RS2000, Carnival Red (1:43)

Ford Escort Mk2 RS2000, Carnival Red -1:43 This die-cast model is based on one of the oldest surviving UK-market examples of an RS2000, which was manufactured in Saarlouis, Germany, in December 1975. The first owner was Mike Collins, then RAF personnel, based at RAF Dishforth, Thirsk, North Yorkshire. He purchased it from the Ford RS dealership, Polar Service Garage, Barnsley on 12th January 1976, then registered it the following day.  It had ten further owners before the current custodian, well known North Wales-based Ford enthusiast Aled Hopwood, purchased it on 7th June 1996. He wasn’t initially aware of its rarity but was captivated by it and has amassed a comprehensive history file containing all the previous MOTs and tax discs, plus a list of previous owners. The car had covered 73,000 miles and was in excellent condition, and Aled enjoyed using it on several European tours, as well as the North Wales Snowdonia Tours and Lakes Tours. It was featured extensively in the book ‘Factory-Original Sporting Mk2 Escorts’, by Dan Williamson, with many detailed photographs of the car by Simon Clay being included in the RS2000 chapter. It has also appeared in Classic Ford Magazine.  In the summer of 2021, Aled embarked on a nut-and-bolt restoration to as-new condition. He returned the underside to its original dove grey paint before having it fully resprayed, although all the original panels and Beta Cloth interior were retained.  Aled proudly showed the finished car at the 2021 NEC Classic Motor Show.

Panavia Tornado GR1A, ZA371/C, Norway, 1995 Tracing its lineage back to the formation of the Royal Flying Corps at Farnborough in May 1912, No.II(AC) Squadron is the most senior squadron in the current Royal Air Force. It also has the honour of being the first fixed-wing aircraft unit anywhere in the world. The first British unit to cross the Channel to operate in France at the start of the Great War, ‘Shiny Two’ became specialist in the role of aerial Army cooperation flying and aerial reconnaissance.  The Unit served throughout the Cold War period, operating a variety of classic aircraft types, including the Hawker Hunter, McDonnell Douglas Phantom and SEPECAT Jaguar. It began an impressive 27-year association with the Panavia Tornado from the end of 1988, only broken when they exchanged their aircraft for Eurofighter Typhoons. During that period, the most strikingly presented Tornados were those benefitting from a temporary winter camouflage scheme in support of their deployment to Norway on Arctic operations. These combined defence and readiness exercises saw various aircraft types from different nations regularly coming together to test their capabilities in meeting the threat posed by Eastern Bloc forces in the high north of Europe, a show of strength to deter any thoughts of aggression.  The GR.1A variant of the Tornado was a dedicated reconnaissance platform, made up of 16 converted GR.1 airframes and 14 newly constructed aircraft. Corgi Gloster Meteor F.Mk.8, WH480 'M', RAF Biggin Hill, 1953 (1:72)

Gloster Meteor F.Mk.8, WH480 'M', RAF Biggin Hill, 1953 A man destined to achieve great things as a member of the Royal Air Force, Yorkshireman John ‘Dusty’ Miller trained as a military pilot in America under the UK-US ‘Arnold’ Scheme, showing himself to be so proficient that he was retained as a flight instructor. He eventually joined an operational RAF squadron flying Beaufighters in an anti-shipping strike role, but advanced his career significantly during the early years of jet aviation.  Given command of No.41 Squadron at Biggin Hill, flying the Meteor jet from Summer 1951, his personal aircraft was one of the most colourful of that era, defending British airspace in style. Miller was one of the first RAF pilots forced to eject from his Meteor when a turbine blade failure caused an in-flight fire above Essex in April 1952. Once back flying, he continued his rise through the ranks.  With his potential for senior rank, Miller was forced to turn his back on ten years of flying jet fighters to take command of a Vickers Valiant nuclear bomber squadron, as his seniors wanted to take him away from what he was expert in to broaden his service experience.  During his time with the V-Bomber force, he was the officer responsible for introducing the Blue Steel air-launched nuclear stand-off missile into RAF service. When he left the RAF in 1969, he had achieved the rank of Air Commodore. This Gloster Meteor F.Mk.8 is a wonderful tribute to John 'Dusty' Miller, replicating the aircraft in excellent die-cast model form. - 1:72 Scale

English Electric Canberra B.6, WT370, Operation Musketeer, 1956 Suez Crisis When the English Electric Canberra entered Royal Air Force service during the spring of 1951, it was unquestionably the most advanced and most capable jet-powered bomber aircraft the world had ever seen. While it wasn’t integrated enough to see service during the Korean War, the conflict did see production of the Canberra accelerate significantly, with the jet designated a ‘super priority’ type.  The Suez Crisis of 1956 saw RAF Canberra units finally able to show what they could do in an offensive capacity, with five Canberra units allocated to operations against Egyptian forces. The jets of RAF No.139 Squadron from Binbrook were deployed to RAF Nicosia, and were assigned to fly target-marking missions for other Canberra bombers flying from Malta behind them, using a combination of Target Indicator incendiaries and 1000lb bombs. On 3rd November 1956, Wing Commander Paul Mallorie led No.139 Squadron against the Egyptian airfield at Luxor and the Soviet-made Il-28 ‘Beagle’ bombers based there. Once the targets had been illuminated, the Canberras were to return to make their own bombing strike against the airfield. With smoke covering the site and with light fading fast, Mallorie led his squadron in an audacious dive-bombing attack against the parked Egyptian bombers, to devastating effect.  The Operation Musketeer Canberras of RAF No.139 Squadron were arguably the most colourfully presented aircraft to take part in this controversial period in British history. de Havilland Mosquito FB VI, LR364 SY-E, Wg Cdr John R 'Bob' Braham & Sqn Ldr Bill 'Sticks' Gregory, No 2 Group Headquarters RAF, 1944 When Britain’s population were desperate for heroic figures to galvanise the nation towards victory in their greatest hour of need, they were fortunate enough to be able to count on men like RAF airman John Randall Daniel ‘Bob’ Braham. An accomplished twin engined fighter pilot, Braham would go on to believe that flying ‘freelance’ hunting sorties at the same time as the main RAF bomber formations over enemy occupied Europe might draw enemy nightfighters to them and away from RAF bombers, where the Luftwaffe’s nocturnal hunters could be targeted by this proven nightfighter specialist and his powerful aircraft.  In this role, he is thought to have shot down at least four of the Luftwaffe’s leading nightfighter aces, becoming the scourge of German defensive operations against Allied night raids. Britain’s most decorated Fighter Command airman, ‘Bob’ Braham ended the war as the most successful British pilot operating twin-engined aircraft, and was also a leading nightfighter ace, scoring 19 of his 30 aerial victories under the cover of night. He had 9 intruder victories whilst flying the de Havilland Mosquito to his name, and must have proved significant in saving the lives of many hundreds of Bomber Command airmen as a result of his actions.  The aircraft presented here is the de Havilland Mosquito he borrowed from RAF No.613 Squadron on 5th March 1944, the aircraft in which he scored his first Mosquito victory. - 1:72 Scale

Corgi Star Trek - USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A [Star Trek VI]

Star Trek - USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A [Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country] After stealing the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 to rescue Captain Spock and then ordering the starship's destruction in the process, Admiral James T. Kirk and his command crew faced court martial. Their actions in saving planet Earth from destruction by an alien probe saw them largely exonerated of the most serious charges, with Kirk’s ‘punishment’ being a demotion back to the rank of Captain and command of a starship.  Expecting to be assigned to the U.S.S. Excelsior NCC-2000, the crew were instead delighted and surprised to find themselves aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-A. Her shakedown cruise led to the need for repairs back at Earth, but before completion, the ship was urgently sent out to resolve a hostage situation on Nimbus III.  It emerged this was a ruse by Sybok, Spock’s Vulcan half-brother, to hijack a starship and take it to the centre of the galaxy to find the mythic planet Sha Ka Ree and the potentially divine presence that inhabited it. This turned out to be hostile, to Sybok’s cost. By 2293, the Enterprise-A was due for retirement, in part thanks to the success of the Excelsior-class. Her final mission occurred when the energy-producing Klingon moon of Praxis suddenly exploded, leading to a crisis within the Empire and the unexpected offer of peace talks.  Kirk and his crew were chosen to mediate thanks to the involvement of Captain Spock, and despite attempts by a conspiracy to derail any chance of peace, the Enterprise was instrumental in the signing of the Khitomer Accords and the eventual alliance between the Federation and Klingon Empire.  The Enterprise-A was later preserved at the Starfleet Museum in tribute to the legacy of James T. Kirk and his illustrious crew. Her successor, the Excelsior-class U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-B, was launched later in 2293. Trekkers will love this version of the USS Enterprise, in highly detailed, die-cast model form. A must-have model for your Star Trek collection.

Oxford Diecast Austin-Morris J4 Van - Blue (1:76)

The Morris Commercial J4 van was a 10 cwt (0.5 ton) forward control van which Morris Commercial launched in 1960. It quickly became the ‘go to’ vehicle for deliveries due to its style and capacity. As a result it was a familiar sight on UK roads decorated in the likes of Royal Mail, British Rail, the Police as well as by smaller firms as a general utility vehicle. Painted in a rich blue with no livery at all and so the effect focuses the eye on its styling. The silver exterior trim takes in the distinctive radiator grille, above which the Austin badge is printed in red on silver.  BMC of which Austin was also part, interchanged the Austin and Morris marques by using different badges, radiator grilles etc, one of which carried through to the J van as seen on this model. Registered 2417 BP, this version has dark blue wheels to match the body colour while the interior is moulded in black with dark blue dashboard. The double doors at the back would have made loading and unloading easy and the two small back windows incorporate a glazed effect, adding even more realism. - 1:76 Scale

Oxford Diecast DH Mosquito NF MkII P.G.Wykeham-Barnes. RAF No.23 Sqn. (1:72)

This 1:72 scale Oxford aircraft represents a No. 23 Squadron Mosquito which was deployed to RAF Luqa in Malta. The squadron was the first to use the Mosquito in the Mediterranean, having transferred there in December 1942. Its key role was to perform intruder and bomber escort missions attacking enemy  infrastructure in North Africa and Southern Italy, often flying low and fast. The Mosquito’s versatility played a vital part, with great success. Wing Commander Peter Wykeham-Barnes was the commanding officer at Luqa and was to become one of WWII’s famous Bomber Aces, surviving the conflict and highly decorated too. Born on 13 September 1915 in Sandhurst, Surrey, Peter Wykeham-Barnes joined the RAF as an aircraft apprentice in 1932. Later he became a cadet at RAF College, Cranwell and was commissioned in 1937. After a series of deployments at home and abroad, he took over 23 Squadron on Mosquito II night intruders, leading the unit out to Malta. Whilst with 23 Squadron his navigator was 116970 Flying Officer Geoffrey Ernest Palmer, DFC. Together, they were a formidable team with great successes against the Luftwaffe. Wykeham-Barnes ended the war with 3 and 1 shared biplane victories and a total of 14 and 3 shared destroyed. Post-war, he took an Air Ministry post followed by secondment to the USAF in Korea, where he flew night intruder sorties in B-26 Invaders of the 90th Bomber Group, USAF, and was awarded the US Air Medal.  He ended his career in UK defence  as Deputy Chief of the Air Staff and retired as Air Marshal Sir Peter Wykeham, KCB, DSO and Bar, OBE, DFC and Bar, AFC.  He died on 23 February 1995. With so much history behind it, our heroic model appears decorated in the night fighter garb of dark grey and dark green upper side and matt black underside with matt black nose, dorsal patch, guns and rear tyres. On the upper side, the No Step warning signs in red indicate the fragility of the structure in the area between the two engines which would not support any weight.  Also in red are the aircraft identity markings DZ230 and YP-A along the length of the fuselage. The RAF roundel also features a yellow outer circle to make it more easily visible to other friendly aircraft. The island of Malta was awarded the George Cross for its bitter battles against the enemy during WWII and without doubt the DH Mosquito played a great part in its success. - 1:72 Scale

AEC Routemaster RML2270 LT - Special Railway Service The standard Routemaster bus was an undoubted success story for London Transport (LT), and its integral construction had kept LT at the forefront of new bus innovation. However, by the end of the 1950s, questions were being asked by the wider bus industry about whether a 64 seat double decker was commercially viable long-term, especially as the economics of bus operation became more challenging. Greater capacity was being called for. In 1961 LT ordered 24 new Routemasters, which would have an increased capacity of 72 seats. Like the 64 seaters, these new buses would be engineered by AEC at Southall, with body construction and assembly completed at Park Royal Vehicles. These new vehicles mechanically similar to their shorter cousins, sharing the same engines, brakes, transmission and electrical equipment. However, they were 2ft 4in longer than the standard Routemaster, having a small square window on the upper and lower decks where an additional bay had been added. A further 500 RMLs would be built; the first of this new batch being delivered on 1st July 1965, and the last entering service in February 1968. The RMLs would go on to serve London for the best part of the next four decades, finally being withdrawn from front line service in 2005. In fact, one historian would go as far as saying that the RML was “the most successful Routemaster variant ever devised.” Our model depicts RML2270 (CUV270C), which originally entered London Transport service in November 1965. It is presented in its 1978 condition as allocated to New Cross garage, with solid LT roundels, and working a Special Railway Service linking Waterloo with Paddington, King’s Cross and St Pancras. The new models are based on EFE Road’s refined and updated RML tooling, and now feature such enhancements as bodyside panel lines and highly detailed liveries and advertisements. - 1:76 Scale

Oxford Diecast Bedford Ca Ice Cream Van Tonibell (1:76)

Previously modelled in 1:43 scale many ice cream years ago, we at Oxford are delighted to reintroduce our lovely Bedford CA Ice Cream van in the famous bright pink Tonibell livey, this time in the smaller 1:76 scale. The story of Tonibell ice cream goes back to 1937 when Italian born Tony Pignatelli and his Scottish wife founded an ice cream manufacturing business known as Toni’s in a high street shop in the Home Counties. They purchased their first mobile vehicle in 1951 – a bicycle with an ice cream container on the front. A year later they purchased a small van converted to sell ice cream complete with chimes!  Business expanded and changed hands many times over the years, including the name which became Tonibell. At its peak, Tonibell ran 500 vans and 15 ice cream parlours. Of course, the 1960s was also a peak time for the ubiquitous split windscreen CA Van, so this popular little vehicle was a prime choice as an ice cream van.  Here we see it in the bright pink colour scheme with side window hatch decorated with all the frozen delights on offer. Corgi Land Rover Series I 80" - Light Green (Weathered) (1:43)

Land Rover Series I 80" - Light Green (Weathered) Rover launched the Land Rover at the 1948 Amsterdam Motor Show. They displayed three examples: one indoors on the stand, and two outside demonstrating the new machine’s remarkable abilities. All three were pre-production prototypes; different in detail specification to what emerged when production commenced. The vehicle modelled was one of the demonstrators, although it was then left-hand drive. After the show, it was allocated to Jack Swain’s Engine Department, converted to right-hand drive and used to test engine updates. It was retained by Rover, driven on trade plates, until 1955 when it was sold to a local buyer, Mr Smith, and given the Solihull number plate SNX 910. Thereafter, L07 had numerous owners in the Midlands and lived in Alvechurch Worcestershire for 20 years from 1968. By 2016, it was back in Solihull, sunk up to its axles in mud, awaiting a restoration. The owner offered L07 and another Series 1 to a Land Rover specialist. A friend of his spotted some of the unique prototype features in the pictures he showed him, and it was acquired by Jaguar Land Rover Classic in 2017. They were amazed by how original the vehicle was, and displayed it at Mell Square, Solihull, as part of Land Rover’s 70th anniversary celebrations. It was then mechanically restored by JLR Classic, who left the bodywork in its patinated state as it tells the vehicle’s incredible story. Ford Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth 4x4 - Mallard Green The Vanguards 1:43 scale Ford Sierra Sapphire Cosworth modelled replicates the last UK-spec right-hand drive example to leave the production line, and the only one painted in Mallard Green – facts confirmed in the car’s extensive history file by a letter from the Operations Manager at Ford Genk, Belgium. It was delivered new on 2nd March 1993 to a Mr Gambling, who kept it until the 3rd August 1993, when he sold it to Ford dealers Fordthorne, Cardiff. They retained the car until 2009, servicing it regularly, before selling it to renowned enthusiast and collector, Mark Bailey, owner of the ‘BonkeRS Collection’ of fast Fords that was featured on the PistonHeads website in 2011. Mark Bailey offered the car for sale in the auction at the 2015 NEC Classic Car show. It was purchased by another well-known fast Ford collector, Gideon Mayers, to be part of his ‘Cheshire Collection’. He exhibited it in the Pride of Ownership section of the 2021 NEC Classic Car Show, where it was much admired because of its condition and unique history. He reluctantly offered it for sale as part of the Iconic Auctioneers sale at the 2023 NEC Classic Car Show. It had still covered fewer than 22,000 miles and was in perfect, unmodified condition. Corgi Ford Escort Mk2 RS1800 - Diamond White (1:43)

Ford Escort Mk2 RS1800 - Diamond White The Cosworth BDA-powered RS1800 was a homologation special, produced so Escort Mk2s could enter international motorsport. It’s rare because Ford homologated it as an evolution of the similarly powered Mk1-based RS1600. Consequently, only 109 were built, all to order – 106 in white. All were converted to RS1800 specification in a small two-ramp workshop on Ford’s Aveley development site, Essex. The first 20 were based on Halewood-built Sport bodyshells and are easily recognisable by their blue stripes, although at least three also had body-coloured rear spoilers. Later RS1800s were based on Saarlouis-built Mexicos. Ford retained the first two for PR work, but the car modelled is believed to be the first RS1800 sold to a customer. It was registered in Northampton in July 1975, then exported to Malta in 1978 and allocated a new UK registration on return. The current owner, Perthshire-based Gary Wilson, acquired it in 2009 and traced its history with the help of then RSOC RS1800 Registrar, the late Dave Robinson. Dave proved it was the 'missing' first RS1800, which enabled it to be returned to its original registration. Gary spent ten years on a very detailed, complete restoration with expert Neil Arnold at Auto Restoration, Stockton-on-Tees. The finished article debuted at the RSOC’s Knockhill event in September 2021 and is considered the most perfect RS1800 extant. It has since won many trophies, including Concours Car of the Show at the RSOC National Day, 28th August 2022. Sopwith Camel F.1 - B7190/C - ‘Donner Wetter!’ This 1:48 scale die-cast model release of the World War One Sopwith Camel plane replicates the beautiful livery of an early aviation ace. This Aviation Archive model features a rotating propeller and display stand. We’ve only made 900 of these limited-edition Walter Hinchcliff Sopwith Camel F.1 die-cast models. History Liverpudlian Walter ‘Hinch’ Hinchliffe began his military career with a British Army artillery unit, but in 1916, joined the Royal Naval Air Service. After training, he was posted to Cranwell as an instructor, where he clocked up an impressive 1,250 flight hours in 13 months of flying. In January 1918, he joined No.10 Squadron. RNAS at Téteghem near Dunkirk, and scored his first victory in a Sopwith Camel on 3rd February 1918. As the commander of ‘C’ Flight, Hinchliffe’s Sopwith Camel B7190 was one of the most distinctively presented aircraft of the squadron, with its blue and white detailing making it an attractive sight for Allied and Luftstreitkräfte pilots alike. He used this aircraft to score his second and third victories in France, ending the war with six confirmed victories, confirming him as an ace pilot. The spine of his aircraft carried a representation of the Liverpool coat of arms, and the wheel covers had little devils painted on them. The wording ‘Donner Wetter’ painted on either side of the fuselage is German for ‘thunderstorm’ – fitting for a pilot who enjoyed such a meteoric rise through service. After the war, ‘Hinch’ was persuaded to fly a wealthy heiress across the Atlantic, as she wanted to become the first woman to do so. Tragically, both aircraft and passengers were lost without trace during the attempt. - 1:48 scale

Bristol F-2B Fighter - C4636 - ‘DEVIL-IN-THE-DUSK’ This impressive 1:48 scale Aviation Archive model replicates a night-fighter variant of the Bristol F2B Fighter with an incredible First World War home-front story. It features a rotating propeller and a display stand. We’ve only made 900 of these limited-edition Bristol F-2B Fighter die-cast models. History: One of the most important British aircraft of the Great War era, the Bristol F2B Fighter was an exceptional fighting aeroplane. Once pilots realised this large machine was strong enough to be flown like a scout, many Luftstreitkräfte aircraft fell to its guns. The Bristol was a multi-role aircraft of interest to the Home Defence units attempting to stem the nightly tide of German Zeppelin and biplane bomber raiders over southern England. The First World War model aircraft replicated here served with RAF No.39 Squadron during the summer of 1918, and on the night of 19th/20th May, was flown by 19-year-old Lieutenant Anthony Arkell on just his 11th home defence sortie. Intercepting a mighty Gotha G.V bomber at 10,000ft over the Hainault Forest, Arkell skilfully positioned his aircraft under the bomber, and fired drum after drum of ammunition into its belly. Seemingly having little effect, he remained in position for around fifteen minutes, firing 700 rounds of ammunition into the belly of the beast, which finally burst into flames with the pair now just 1,500ft above the ground. The aircraft crashed in East Ham, becoming the first and only No.39 Squadron victory over a Gotha night-raider, and earning Lt. Arkell a Military Cross. His aircraft, which was named ‘Devil in the Dusk’, sported muted markings developed specifically for night-fighter operations. - 1:48 scale

Land Rover Defender LWB St. Wagon - British Gas  Land Rover introduced the Defender in the early 1980s as a rugged, versatile four-wheel drive, all terrain vehicle which appeared as a car and also as a pickup truck. With cargo capacity for a wealth of equipment or baggage, the Defender could handle anything, which made it a great favourite in both military and civilian roles – many of which have preceded this latest release. Registered E203 PWR from 1987, our long wheel base version is decorated in the eye-catching livery of British Gas at that time.  Representing British Gas North Eastern, as depicted on the cab doors, the body is white with royal blue lower body and roof and featuring fine lighter blue/aquamarine stripes along the waist.  The roof is enhanced with a silver spotlight and an orange roof beacon, both essential in some British Gas operating conditions, no doubt. The interior is black and exterior trim features both black and silver finish. The matt black radiator grille has the Land Rover 110 name above in the centre while the spare wheel is fixed to the centre of the back door, Oxford's 1:76 scale long wheelbase Defender British Gas North Eastern. Spitfire X4590 (609 Sqn) Hendon Our 1:72 scale model of the Spitfire Mk I is a replica of the X4590 registered aircraft built in 1940, deployed to 609 Squadron which operated out of RAF Middle Wallop, from where it took part in the Battle of Britain. X4590 was badly damaged in 1941 but was repaired and put into service as a training aircraft before being retired in 1944. Post war, it was preserved and put on display at the RAF Museum in 1978 where it proudly stands today. The model is decorated in the brown and green camouflage scheme with pale green underside. The characteristic RAF roundels and its RAF PR-F X4590 identity are all faithfully replicated as they appear in real life. - 1:72 Scale

Henschel 126 Gaub/Schroder AFU Recon Group Poland 1939 The Henschel Hs 126 was a German two-seat biplane observation and close support aircraft designed by Henschel Flugzeugwerke AG and manufactured by Weser Flugzeugbau GmbH. It was the standard reconnaissance aircraft of the Luftwaffe at the start of World War II. The Hs 126 was developed in response to a Luftwaffe requirement for a new reconnaissance aircraft to replace the outdated Heinkel He 45 and He 46. The first prototype flew in June 1936, and the aircraft entered production in 1937. It was a highly manoeuvrable aircraft with good visibility, making it well-suited for its reconnaissance role. It was also armed with two forward-firing machine guns and a movable rear-facing machine gun for self-defence. It was used extensively by the Luftwaffe during the early stages of World War II. It was used to support the German invasion of Poland in September 1939, and it played a major role in the Blitzkrieg campaigns in Western Europe and the Balkans in 1940. The Hs 126 was also used in the North African campaign and on the Eastern Front. As the war progressed, the Hs 126 became increasingly vulnerable to Allied fighter aircraft. It was gradually replaced by more modern aircraft, such as the Fieseler Fi 156 Storch and the Henschel Hs 129. However, the Hs 126 remained in service throughout the war, and it was still being used in some theatres in 1945. The Hs 126 was produced in a number of variants, including the A-1 reconnaissance aircraft (as our model AC120), the B-1 light bomber, and the C-1 ground attack aircraft. Folland Gnat Single Seat RAF Cosford Museum XK724 Following in the contrails of Aviation 72's successful two-seat T.1 trainer variant that has spawned many versions in 1/72 scale, the Gnat's casting was modified to replicate the original solo cockpit 'light fighter' F.1 that first flew in 1955. The British Folland Gnat was developed as a compact swept-wing subsonic fighter aircraft that was produced by Folland Aircraft. Envisioned as an affordable light fighter in contrast to the rising costs and size of typical combat aircraft, it was procured as a trainer aircraft for the Royal Air Force as well as by overseas customers in Finland, Yugoslavia and India, who used the Gnat in both combat and training capacities. Although never used as a fighter by the RAF, the 2-seat Gnat T.1 jet trainer variant was also adopted and operated for some time. The Gnat also became well known due to its prominent use as the original display type used by the Red Arrows aerobatic team. The Gnat was replaced by the Hawker Siddeley Hawk. This RAF version (a limited edition of 360) is rightly missing the underwing extras modelled on later releases of this casting as it depicts the aircraft as it is today, on display at The RAF Cosford Museum. The single-seater Gnat really looks the part with the smaller cockpit and is wonderfully finished in the correct livery. The paintwork on both features a suitable level of sheen and the markings are all beautifully applied, plus there is plenty of excellent detailing to enjoy. Routemaster London Transport The Routemaster was first introduced in the early 50s by London Transport.It emerged as the most popular double decker bus of all time. As one man operated buses came more into use , some of the Routemasters were sold off to a variety of fleets throughout the U.K. Some vehicles were even exported for use in other countries. This history of Oxford Diecast and production in Swansea means the lineage of this model is quite interesting. Many rememember the Corgi (Mettoy) Routemaster that was manufactured in huge numbers. Back in the 1970's when ever we were short of production orders, we just inserted 250,000 buses into the programme. I recall many punch ups with the sales force, who would object strongly as they had the reponsibility of selling whatever was made. Needles to say when they were sold out and the warehouse was empty of Routemasters, they would quickly criticise the factory ! The Mettoy (Corgi) Routemaster was copied by many of the Hong Kong and Chinese manufacturers over the years. My favourite recollection was seeing a terrible copy by an Indian manufacturer. They had bought a sample, but the roof was not straight, there was a 'hump' on the top at the rear; on an internal cavity of the mould there was an insert that came lose from time to time - some production had slipped through with the 'hump' (probably night shhift) and that is what the Indian company had purchased for their sample. In London there was a company called Seener, named after the owner, we tooled up a version for him. He wanted a smaller model around 15/20% smaller to save costs, so we chose 1:76 scale - a lucky scale for Oxford. These carried the brand name SEEROL, named after the owners son ROLand SEEner. We made around 500,000 of these during the 1980's. The tooling eventually fell to pieces and the newly produced Oxford 1:76 variant appeared - it had for once wheel hubs that looked correct. - TT:120 Scale

Indeed, the imposing stature of the men made these battle-hardened veterans the shock troops of their day. Highly trained in hand-to-hand combat and advanced bayonet techniques earned them a fearsome reputation. And the bayonet came in quite handy when defending after your single-shot musket was discharged. Contrary to popular belief the bayonet was actually difficult to use – not that it was an overly complicated weapon but that when it came time to employ the device many soldiers recoiled at the thought of puncturing the flesh of another human. This is where the elite training of the Guard took over and the steel thrust home.

Republic P-47D 28RA Thunderbolt Includes: - Detailed diecast aircraft - Cockpit detail including pilot - Optional undercarriage (up or down position) - Panel line and body detailing - Rotating prop - Armament detail - Collectors Card - Display stand - 1:72 Scale Aircraft information: When Republic P-47D Thunderbolt 42-29150 “Dottie Mae' took to the air following the end of a lengthy restoration project in June 2017, she was not only a fine example of this brute of a wartime fighter, but could also claim to be arguably the most historic airworthy former wartime aircraft found anywhere in the world.  Recovered from Lake Traun in Austria some twelve years earlier, this aircraft had the distinction of being the last Allied fighter to be lost prior to the end of the war in Europe, one which wasn't lost to enemy action, but the exuberance of a pilot who just flew too low when undertaking a morale boosting aviation show of strength flight.  Assigned to fly over a recently liberated German labour camp in the town of Ebensee, Austria, a force of twenty Thunderbolts made their way at relatively low altitude from their base at Kitzingen, but with Mohr in 'Dottie Mae' always appearing to be flying lower than the rest of the flight.  After overflying the town, the Thunderbolts headed out over Lake Traun and broke formation, however almost immediately, the propeller of Mohr's P-47 struck the surface of the water and was dragged in. Pilot Lt. Mohr managed to escape unscathed, but his aircraft quickly sank to its watery resting place, along with the ignominy of being the last Allied fighter lost during the war in Europe.

The first listed owner was Jaguar's Personal Export Division.  They registered the car in Coventry purely so it could be officially exported to the largest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife, where the British gentleman who had ordered it, Mr I. E. Lloyd, was then based. Mr Lloyd specified Sundym glass to make the car more comfortable in the warm climate and regularly drove it back to the UK for servicing.  Mr Lloyd evidently enjoyed the car as he covered 50,000 miles in it and kept it until the late 1980s, by which time he'd moved to the Isle of Man. It was imported into the UK in 2016 and then purchased by well-known Jaguar collector, Mike Birtwistle, who was impressed by its rust-free condition and original red interior.  Mike mechanically recommissioned it, had the sun-bleached paint resprayed and used it for several Jaguar Enthusiast Club events before selling it to a fellow JEC member, West Midlands-based motoring TV producer and journalist, John Lakey, in September 2017. John was delighted as he'd been looking for a 4.2-litre MOD Series 1 in these colours for years and regularly writes about the car in Classic Car Weekly.

It was also loaned to various magazines and newspapers for road-testing, including The Sunday Times, The Sun, The Mirror, Top Gear Magazine, Goodwood Media, What Car and Autocar. It was delivered to Ford of Britain on March 5th, 2019, and loaned to EVO Magazine for a long-term test two weeks later. Although driven by various members of EVO's team, the main custodian was Deputy Editor, Adam Towler, who was very enthusiastic about the car, writing in his first report, 'I think it's fair to say I'm besotted with this big American in a way I can't remember being with a long-termer in years.' During EVO's tenure, Ford's press garage fitted various upgrades from their Ford Performance accessory range for the magazine's experts to evaluate. This included a quick shift gear lever, a carbon-fibre gear knob, a strut brace, a slightly louder and more free-flowing exhaust system, and coil-over suspension which improved the car's stance as well as its high-speed handling. The EVO team hosted numerous track days throughout the year including an event at Goodwood, and all were impressed by the poise the car exhibited on track as well as the glorious rev-hungry nature of its V8. It was returned to Ford on December 2nd, 2019, and used on some corporate Ford events with the product and accessory team before being de-fleeted on 31st July 2020.

Since May 2023 it's been owned by its third keeper, Lynn Dumpleton, the editor of the RS Owners Club's magazine Rallye News, who lives in North Wales. Lynn is a lifelong fast Ford enthusiast and could not resist adding this low-mileage example of Ford's last petrol-powered RS to her collection. The car was ordered with most of the available options including the Luxury Pack, which cost an extra £1000 on top of the retail price of £29,995 and included rear parking sensors, powerfold door mirrors, keyless entry, privacy glass, cruise control, and a speed limiter. The first owner also requested 19” black forged alloy wheels that cost an extra £595, shadow black premium paint, which cost an additional £525, and the Ford SYNC3 Nav System with 10 premium Sony Speakers, a sub-woofer and a rear camera, which was another £465. The blue-painted brake callipers were a mere £100, and door edge protectors, at £85, completed the list. The only option left unticked was the Race Style RS Recaro shell seats, which would have cost an extra £1145 and reduced the car's practicality. Lynn enjoys taking the car to RSOC events and was particularly pleased to use it as the safety car on the club's anniversary parade lap of the Donnington Park race circuit during the 2023 RSOC National Day.

They injected the development cash the business had hitherto lacked. The resulting car was launched at the Birmingham Motor Show on October 20th, 1998 and was praised for its elegant exterior design by stylist Richard Woolley and very British interior ambience. Production commenced at Cowley, Oxfordshire, but when BMW sold the company in May 2000 it was moved to Longbridge. The 75 remained in production until 2005 by which time 211,175 had been produced. The automatic 2.5-litre V6 Rover 75 modelled was sold new by MG-Rover dealers Vantage-Preston and was first registered in July 2005, just three months after the Longbridge-based company went into administration.  It features the later-revised bumpers, grille and single-light facelifted nose treatment launched in 2004, which gave the 75 a more modern look, although it cleverly used the same lamp base units with a new single lens on top. Since November 2022, it has been owned by Greater Manchester-based Rover 75 enthusiast Tim Hubbard, who bought it because it showed a genuine 87,000 miles and was in very good overall condition. The 75 and its MG-badged ZT cousin have now acquired a strong following in the classic car world and values are increasing.

Austin Mini Metro Emberglow (Princess Diana) Includes: - Diecast model - Driven by Princess Diana  - Body lining - Interior and body detailing - Display stand - OO Scale Vehicle information: British Leyland introduced the Mini Metro in 1980, with a view to it being a possible successor to the popular and highly acclaimed Mini.  Known initially as the Austin Mini Metro, as time went on with vehicle manufacturer mergers and takeovers, it became popularly known as simply the Metro.  Designed by David Bache and Harris Mann, the Metro was assembled at the Longbridge plant and came as a 3-door/5door hatchback with front wheel drive, a four speed gearbox and engine options from 1.0L  to 1.3L.Top speed was 84 mph.for the basic model. With a length of 3,400 mm and a width of 2,250 mm and boasting a spacious interior, it was particularly popular for use in the city too.  The price was pretty attractive as well. You could buy a new Austin Mini Metro  basic 1.0L model for £3,095. The Metro was revealed over a 3-week period in September 1980 but not at the British Motor Show, where it made its official public debut later.  British Leyland chose to sail from Liverpool to The Isle of Man aboard a cruise ship which proved highly newsworthy and attracted huge attention from prospective buyers from the car trade, who took advantage of this unique opportunity to view and buy the acclaimed vehicle. The Austin Mini Metro was popularised to a notable extent by one famous purchaser of the early version.  The 19 year old Lady Diana Spencer bought one at the time when she was attracting a great deal of attention prior to her marriage to the then Prince Charles.  Registered MPB 909W from 1980/81, it is Lady Diana’s Metro that Oxford has chosen to launch this new model. Decorated in the ruby red Emberlow colour scheme, Our Austin Mini Metro is based on the 3-door version.  The exterior features a fine double white stripe along the waist of the car, with a similar black stripe below.  The majority of the exterior trim is black including the distinctive radiator grille. which also has the squared off headlights embedded into it with the Austin blue badge in the centre.  To the rear the Austin mini Metro signage is printed in silver along the lower edge of the boot. The Austin Mini Metro was the best selling mini-car in its early production days and was voted Car of the Year in 1983.   During its 18-year production span, the Metro clocked up over 2 million sales. However, it is a very rare sight today.

Dropped from a Royal Air Force Boeing C-17A Globemaster in a compact form, the glider immediately springs open into a deployed flight configuration that, upon reaching surface level, transforms again into a submersible for the final arrival at Safin’s base.  While not a real aircraft, the Q Glider was created as a full-size physical prop with an opening canopy by the No Time To Die production team for use on set. The glider prop was used onboard a real Royal Air Force C-17A Globemaster at RAF Brize Norton and in a water tank set built at Pinewood Studios to create the interior submarine pen at The Poisoned Garden. Visuals of the glider deploying from the Globemaster were created using Computer Generated Imagery (CGI).

Tricycle Van - Pickfords The second release on this unusual three wheeler van, is Pickfords, the internationally renowned removal and storage company colour scheme of midnight blue and white, which is bound to appeal to collectors of the Pickford fleet past and present. Our Oxford tricycle, registered BWB 39, is as working out of Waingate in Sheffield as a Parcel Express Service delivery vehicle. The Pickfords colour scheme is relieved by white lettering on both sides, silver coachlines and black wheels, wheel arches and mudflaps. The interior is also black, including the steering wheel. Red masking has been used to depict rear lights at the four corners - top and bottom of the back doors, which also incorporate two porthole style windows. A final detail comprises the fleet number M.1596 on the sides in front of the rear wheel. Chard’s engineer’s eye was crucial. He decided to defend the Drift; it was a wise decision since any attempt to retreat would undoubtedly have exposed the men to a Zulu attack on the open veldt. He directed that a line of barricades be run in front of the post. His soldiers would be sheltered by a wall of mealie bags and biscuit boxes above their own head height. This put the Zulu warriors fighting with close-quarter weapons at a fatal disadvantage. The battle had cost the lives of approximately 600 Zulus, while just 17 British soldiers were killed – a testament to the effectiveness of Chard’s barricades.

Aviation 72 Fairey Swordfish 'The Navy Wings Heritage Flight' (1:72)

Fairey Swordfish 'The Navy Wings Heritage Flight' W5856/4A The Swordfish is a biplane torpedo bomber, designed by the Fairey Aviation Company and principally operated by the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy. The design first flew in 1934 and was retired from frontline duties towards the end of World War II. W5856 is the oldest surviving airworthy Fairey Swordfish in the world and is now part of the Navy Wings historic naval aircraft collection. W5856 first flew in 1941 and served with the Royal Navys Mediterranean Fleet for a year, then returned to Fairey's Stockport factory for refurbishment over the winter of 1942/43. Transferred to the Royal Canadian Navy in 1944 and used in a training role, this aircraft was then stored in reserve after the end of the war. Sold off and passing into civilian ownership, W5856 was eventually purchased by Sir William Roberts and brought to Scotland to join his Strathallan Collection. In 1990, the aircraft was bought by British Aerospace and completely restored to flying condition. Following a successful test flight at Brough in May 1993, she was gifted to the Royal Navy Historic Flight. Three years later, the aircraft was adopted by the City of Leeds, in tribute to the local companies that built Swordfish components during World War II, and W5856 now wears the citys coat of arms and name on her port side just forward of the pilot's cockpit. W5856 was grounded with corrosion in her wing spars in 2003, but BAE Systems generously stepped in and constructed a new set of wings, which were delivered in 2012. W5856 was saved by a major grant from the Peter Harrison Heritage Foundation. The aircraft re-joined the display circuit in 2015, carrying a new paint scheme which depicts Swordfish of 820 Naval Air Squadron during the attack of the Bismarck in 1941. Released as part of the lower-priced Inceptor series, this second Swordfish in the series (after AV72-FB-001, the other Swordfish in the Navy Wings collection) makes for another excellent value model. Despite the launch of the all-new Cavalier just a year away in 1987, the company upgraded the existing model in 1986 adding revised grilles and rear lamp clusters similar to their larger Senator vehicle, together with further improvement to the equipment levels. A new 2.0 Litre engine option became available on the CD, SRi and GSL trim whilst the availability of the fuel injected 1.8L unit was revised down to L trim.   We have chosen to launch our 1:76 scale version of the four-door Cavalier in the 2.0 CD format, featuring all the 1986 revisions. It appears in the rich champagne platinum colour scheme with lots of black and silver trim, complete with sunroof. Registered D193 XYJ from 1986-7, the interior seating and dashboard are both finished in a darker grey-beige.

Oxford Diecast Land Rover Discovery 1 - Foxfire (1:76)

Land Rover Discovery 1 - Foxfire Includes: - Diecast model - Grill and  wheel detail - Interior detail as per prototype - Rear extra wheel detail attached - Display stand - OO Scale Vehicle information and history: The 1:76 scale the model is based on the vehicle which Land Rover produced at the Solihull plant between 1989 and 1998. Registered F981 ENV from 1998, ours is representative of the last year of manufacture. In real life, the Discovery 1 followed some of the finer features of the Range Rover with the same chassis, suspension and 4 wheel drive system. It was designed, however, at a more affordable price point so it came with smaller engine sizes and initially a three door option. It was also the first Land Rover aimed at the daily driving family market whilst still maintaining the off road facility. In addition, it provided more luggage space and was the only model with a 4 cylinder petrol engine option as well as the diesel alternative. The Discovery 1 came with either a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual gearbox Another innovative feature was the interior for which Land Rover engaged the help of the Conran Design Group.  The result was a uniform interior colour scheme regardless of exterior paintwork, comprising a signature Sonar Blue to seats and carpet. The car also featured magazine holders above the windscreen, hand-holds for rear passengers built into the front seat head rests, new radio controls on the instrument cluster, two removable sunroof panels and a Land Rover branded cloth fabric holdall in the front centre console for storage. This unique ‘bag’ could be removed and with a detachable shoulder strap could be used as a fashion accessory.  A collector’s item in itself! The remainder of the interior and dashboard features of the Discovery 1 were taken from the existing Rover Group stable, including the instrument panel, digital clock, heater and air conditioning controls. A nod to nostalgia comprised the distinctive Morris Marina door handles. Our 1:76 scale model incorporates all the fine visual features of the original. The interior replicates the authentic Sonar Blue, enhanced with a Sonar Grey dashboard, steering wheel and door panels. Additional interior features include black floor mats, grey interior door handles, gearstick and hand brake. The exterior bodywork is a metallic red colour scheme with black and silver trim. Side body and rear window flashes are finished in grey, silver and a fine blue stripe.  Detailed roof bars, rear mud flaps, wheel centres and bolts are all black. The spare wheel appears fixed off centre on the rear full width door to the right of the  number plate. The Discovery 1 retained the chunky utility vehicle function for which Land Rover was historically renowned, while incorporating many refinements aimed at comfort and economy in an ever competitive automotive world.

Supermarine Spitfire T.9 TE308 (G-AWGB) Finished as A58-606 'Grey Nurse' Sharkmouth, operated by Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar Includes - Detailed diecast aircraft  - Cockpit interior and pilot detail - Engine exhaust and shark mouth detailing - Rotating prop - Optional Undercarriage (up or down positions) - Display stand - Collectors Card - 1:72 Scale   Aircraft information and history: As one of the most successful fighter aircraft of the Second World War and one which was produced in huge numbers, it can be a little surprising to learn that the Supermarine Spitfire was not produced in a two seat training variant during the war, meaning that pilots converting to this awesome machine would be making their first flight in the Spitfire as their first solo. The Vickers Supermarine company did propose the development of a two seat variant of the Spitfire to Air Ministry officials as far back as 1941, but as there was no official support for the project at the time, they simply returned to further development of single engined fighters. Once the war had ended, stories of unofficially modified two seat Spitfire projects started to circulate, with the ones produced by the Soviet Air Force being perhaps the most significant. Britain would eventually supply Russia with more than 1000 Spitfires and it was discovered that they actually converted several Spitfires to two seat configuration, however, rather than moving the front cockpit slightly forward as Vickers Supermarine would later do, the Russians elected to simply add a second cockpit behind the existing one, using a narrower section of the fuselage. Making these aircraft extremely distinctive, this also must have also created a rather claustrophobic working environment for the second pilot. With this information in hand, Vickers Supermarine revived their interest in producing a two seat Spitfire as a private venture and in 1946, selected a Spitfire Mk.VIII airframe as their donor aircraft. In fact, one of the most interesting facts about the two seat Spitfire variant is that there is no such thing as a new-build Spitfire T.9 trainer, because every single example was originally manufactured as a single seat fighter. Something of a post war phenomenon, the two seat Spitfire did attract several military operators over the years, including the Irish Air Corps, however, it is during the warbird restoration era and more specifically over the past two decades that the popularity of ‘Spitfires made for two’ has really become established. As arguably the most famous aircraft of all time, the ability to boast that you had flown in a Spitfire used to be the preserve of talented and extremely fortunate pilots, however, as they now had the opportunity to carry a passenger, the chance to fly in a Spitfire was now open to anyone and there has been no end of people desperate to have a Spitfire flying experience. Nowadays, offering Spitfire experience flights has become an extremely lucrative business, to a point where only a few years ago, almost every Spitfire under restoration was being converted to T.9 or two seat Spitfire standard. These aircraft are now much loved in their own right, regularly appearing at Airshows, in addition to operating in all but the poorest weather conditions, taking its latest lucky passenger on their Spitfire experience flight. These Spitfires made for two are maintaining and even enhancing the legacy of this magnificent aeroplane, bringing R.J Mitchell’s classic fighter to the attention of a new generation of Spitfire aficionados. Supermarine Spitfire TE307 was originally constructed as a Mk.IXe fighter variant in 1945, but due the end of the war in Europe, was immediately placed in storage, where she would remain for the next five years. She was then selected as a conversion airframe to T.9 trainer standard, initially earmarked for service with the Egyptian Air Force, but when this sale fell through, embarked on a service career flying with the Irish Air Corps. Following retirement and disposal, she would go on to be used during the filming of the famous move 'The Battle of Britain', before moving into private ownership and periods spent with different owners in France, Canada and the US over the next few decades. She would later be purchased by Warbird Experiences at Biggin Hill and returned to British skies at that time wearing the famous standard RAF wartime day fighter scheme, however, she was about to take on a very different persona. In a development which saw this aircraft become one of the most distinctive airworthy Spitfires in the world today, TE307 was given a smart new scheme in honour of the fighters flown by the men of No.457 Squadron Royal Australian Air Force during WWII. With each of their aircraft benefitting from the application of sinister looking shark mouths under the engine cowling, the unit was known as the 'Grey Nurse' Squadron and Spitfire TE307 now carries the registration A58-606 and the codes ZP-W in honour of Squadron Leader Bruce Watson, who flew with this unit. AEC 690 Concrete Mixer Blue Includes: - Detailed diecast model - Windscreen and interior detailing - Grill and underframe detail - Blue construction colour scheme - Display stand - OO Scale Vehicle information and history: The AEC 690 cab is based on the original vehicle launched at Earl’s Court in 1959 and was produced until 1969.  Both the cab and the chassis had been previously developed by Thornycroft who AEC acquired in the early 1960s. Over the years, the updated 690 was re-badged, re-bodied and  equipped with different engines, all part of AEC’s new vehicle programme. Like many AEC heavy duty transport vehicles, it was also used extensively by the British military. It was manufactured with an all-steel full-width cab resiliently mounted with easy access steps on both sides. It had a lined interior and flat two-piece reverse sloping windscreen, counter-balanced drop door windows, rear view quarter and central windows and adjustable driver’s seat. Cab equipment included twin windscreen wipers, two large rear view mirrors, an efficient heater/demister unit and a tool box.

The prototype had been known as the Morris Mosquito, and some later models were called Morris Minor 1000. At launch there were two variants, the standard 2-door saloon, and the tourer (convertible),the 4-door saloon arrived in 1950. The wood-framed estate, the Traveller, plus a panel van and a pick-up truck version were introduced later with the Series II upgrades in 1952. Oxford Diecast Junkers Ju-87 Stuka Stab III/StG 77 (1:72)

Junkers JU-87 Stuka Includes: - Diecast model - Canopy detailing - Printed detail - Prop and engine exhausts - Display stand - 1:72 Scale Aircraft information and history: Although usually associated with the Wehrmachts feared Lightning War attacks at the beginning of WWII, the Ju87B Stuka was also a highly effective maritime strike bomber. Capable of performing precision dive bombing attacks against any Allied vessel, the Stuka took a heavy toll of shipping in the English Channel, North Africa and in the Mediterranean. The Stuka also saw service with the air forces of Italy, Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary, as well as remaining in Luftwaffe service throughout WWII. The attack dive of the Stuka was so severe, that quite a number of automatic features had to be incorporated into the manoeuvre. At an altitude of approximately 15,000 ft., the pilot would locate his target through a bombsight window, which was located in the floor of the cockpit. His engine and propeller had automatic controls, to optimise the aircraft when in a dive, and an automatic trimmer would make the aircraft tail heavy, as the pilot initiated the dive. He would move the dive lever to the rear, which would limit the kick of the control column and quickly begin a defined sequence of actions, which if done correctly, would see his ordnance detonate on his intended target. He quickly set the trim tabs, reduced the throttle and closed the engine coolant flaps. The aircraft would automatically become tail heavy and pitch over in a 180-degree roll, placing the aircraft in a steep nose-down dive at the same time, dive breaks were automatically deployed, to reduce the speed of the dive, to a constant 360 mph. This was the point of no return as the attack sequence had begun. As the strain on the body of the pilot increased, he still had much work to do. The angle of his dive could be checked by looking at a series of red lines on the side of his cockpit window and lining them up against the horizon 60, 75, or 80 degree angle of attack. He would then look forward through the fixed gun sight, to line up his attack, before releasing his heavy main bomb - the optimum release height was indicated to the pilot, by a light flicking on in his altimeter. The bomb was carried on a large U-shaped cradle, which would swing down on release, throwing the bomb safely clear of the large propeller and on to the target. As all this action was taking place, the pilot would have certainly had at least a couple of reassuring glances at the red pins protruding up from the top of the wings, which informed him that the automatic dive recovery system was engaged, should he fall victim to a g-induced black-out. All this would have been taking place in just a matter of a few, frantic seconds! Once the bombs had left the aircraft, it automatically began its dive recovery sequence. This was the point at which the maximum g loading on the crew would be felt and forces in excess of six times the force of gravity were regularly experienced, which could result in vision impairment at the very least. Once recovered and the nose of the aircraft was above the horizon, the dive breaks were automatically retracted, the throttle was opened and the propeller was set to climb the pilot then quickly had to manually open the coolant flaps, to prevent the engine from overheating and then resume flying the aircraft. This was the point that the Stuka was at its most vulnerable, flying at low level, at relatively slow speed and in hostile territory. His rear gunner may still be blacked out and indeed the pilot might still be feeling a little light headed, but every anti-aircraft gun, rifle and enemy fighter in the vicinity would be taking pot-shots at them, from every angle.

Ford Transit Custom White Includes: - Diecast Model - Custom White - Cab interior detail - Accurate body side detailing - Display stand - OO Scale Vehicle information and history: Ford Custom Van in pristine white – a must for all lightweight commercial van enthusiasts, for whom the ubiquitous white van is a necessity.  In real life, the Custom was launched at the 2012 Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham, when it was classed as a mid-size front wheel drive vehicle, a smaller version of the Ford Transit Mk 8. Still in production today, the original 2.2 turbo diesel powered van is now available as a plug in hybrid version powered by a Ford Ecoboost petrol engine and a 13.6kWh electric battery. As with other Ford Transit models, there is a choice of two chassis lengths and two roof heights as well as being easily adapted for cargo and passenger use. There is also the choice of a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox. Since its introduction, the Ford Custom van, with its characteristic wedge-shaped sloping bonnet, has seen one or two upgrades in its recent history. Our model is based on the original and is registered MA16 XLV from 2016.  It simplicity emphasises the detailed tooling elements of the model, which features contrasting black trim to wheels, radiator grille and bumpers and the familiar Ford badge finished in blue and silver.  The interior is moulded in a contrasting dark grey.  

Oxford Diecast Land Rover Series I 88'' Canvas Bronze Green (1:76)

Land Rover Series I 88'' Canvas Bronze Green Includes: - Detailed diecast model - Distinctive Defender Series 1 front and grille - Interior detail - Canvas Back - Trim and brackets picked out in silver - Wheel detail - Display stand  - OO Scale Vehicle information and history: Rover chief engineer Maurice Wilks was inspired by his army-surplus Willys-Overland Jeep to create a workhorse vehicle for military and agricultural use - and for export abroad to kick-start both Rover's fortunes and the national economy after World War II. Prototypes were up and running by late 1947, and production of the Series I began at Solihull in summer 1948. It had permanent four-wheel-drive with low-ratio gearing and a locking freewheel mechanism, and a 50bhp, 1.6-litre engine from the Rover P3 saloon. It was fitted with lightweight body panels made from surplus aircraft-grade aluminium - steel was in short supply post-war - and came with army-surplus green paint. The Land Rover price started from just £450. Supply to the British forces started in 1949, the Land Rover replacing the Austin Champ and later, the rust-prone Austin Gipsy. Deliveries to organisations such as the Red Cross soon followed. The 100,000th Land Rover was made in autumn 1954 and by 1958, production ran to around 200,000. In Bronze Green this 88 inch Land Rover was one of the most popular colour schemes. The canvas however would fade over time, so the colours of these would vary considerably. They say no two surviving Land Rover Series I's are the same, each having their own identity.

The abbreviation MW stands for Medium Weight. It had a horizontally mounted engine under the floor between the two axles allowing an entrance door ahead of the front axle and a completely flat floor area, making it easy for one man operation. The chassis was provided either by a coach builder or a bus builder. All MW chassis were fitted with a Gardner 5 cylinder or 6 cylinder engine with chassis type designations either as MW5G or -as our model - MW6G. The transmission comprised a manual forward 5-speed gearbox.

Originally conceived as an unarmed fast bomber, the Mosquito was a British twin-engined shoulder winged multi-role combat aircraft which took its first flight in November 1940. By 1941 it was the fastest operational aircraft in the world. The effectiveness of the Mosquito saw its use extended as a high altitude night bomber, as modelled here, where you will notice the authentic lack of gun turrets. At the beginning of World War II, 23 Squadron RAF was equipped with Blenheims as a night fighter squadron before they moved to the highly effective DH Mosquito in July 1942. By 1943 the Squadron and its Mosquito aircraft were based in Luqa in Malta from where they were able to attack enemy airfields and railway targets throughout Sicily, Italy and Tunisia. The model is decorated in a matt black body colour scheme with dark red markings. Note 23 Squadron's YP Squadron code which was used between September 1939 and May 1945, printed on each side of the fuselage with the RAF roundel in between. The roundels also appear on the upper wings, together with an interesting rectangular notice on each side of the cockpit canopy indicating No Step!
