TT3004M LNER Class A1 4-6-2 4472 'Flying Scotsman' The A1 is a locomotive that will always be tied to the names Sir Nigel Gresley and LNER, however only one of these was involved in the design and construction from the beginning. The A1 was originally a Great Northern Railway design, with number 1470 ‘Great Northern’ being one of only two examples to outshop into GNR service. These locomotives were powerful, and almost immediately served their purpose of comfortably outperforming the older ‘Atlantic’ locomotives that were being pushed to their limit between London and the North. These ‘Pacific’ locomotives did just that, and they would go on to become one of the most versatile locomotives in Britain. Upon amalgamation onto the LNER, some minor changes were made to the Class, but being a recent design at the time they were already close to the pinnacle of what could be achieved by any locomotive designer, let alone Sir Nigel Gresley. 4472 is a number that is engrained into the brain of every man who was once a little boy staring starry eyed and an Apple Green streak thundering though the countryside. ‘Flying Scotsman’ was built in 1923 as one of the A1 locomotives built under the LNER, it is the only member of the class to go on to be preserved. The trials and tribulations faced by Flying Scotsman in preservation have cemented its status as one of the most famous steam locomotives ever built. - TT:120 Scale

Hornby LNER Class A4 60016 'Silver King' BR (Early) Green (TT)

The LNER Gresley A4 is one of the most iconic express locomotives in Great Britain, with its streamlined casing a classic symbol of the attitude towards speed and design in the 1930s, which saw increased competition to the railways from road and air travel. The LNER Board knew that they had to make travel between the major cities faster, comfortable and more reliable. Nigel Gresley, the LNER's Chief Mechanical Officer, travelled on the Fliegende Hamburger diesel locomotive in Germany and was impressed by its streamlining, although he realized it was only efficient at high speeds. Gresley was certain that a modified A3 Pacific, with streamlining, could haul greater loads than other locomotives at the same speed or faster and a series of trials were conducted to confirm the A3's suitability. With the trials successfully completed, the LNER Board gave Gresley the go-ahead to create the "Silver Jubilee" streamlined trains, the first of the new streamlined A4s.The streamlining of the A4s' steam circuit, higher boiler pressure and extension of the firebox to create a combustion chamber made them more efficient than the A3 as they consumed less coal and water- especially later on when they were also fitted with a Kylchap double chimney. This improved their free steaming capabilities further. Their streamlined design not only made them capable of high speeds, but created an up draught of smoke, obscuring the driver's vision, a major problem on the new Class A4 engines. The story goes that during wind tunnel testing, after several unsuccessful efforts to get the smoke to lift clear, a thumbprint was inadvertently left on the clay model just behind the chimney. This succeeded in clearing the smoke and was incorporated into the final design. 2511 Silver King was the 3rd A4 locomotive to be built, designed to pull the Silver Jubilee service. The locomotive entered service in November 1935 in the unique LNER Silver livery designed for the service. Hornby LNER Class A3 60078 'Night Hawk' BR (Early) Green (TT)

While the A1 was a fantastic locomotive that served its purpose as intended, it became clear reasonably quickly that some modifications could be made that would greatly improve its performance. These modifications however were too significant to avoid reclassifying the locomotives and as such the A1 Felstead 2743 was the first to be withdrawn from service only a handful of years after it was introduced, emerging from its shed in August 1928 as the first A3 ‘Super Pacific.’ The newly designated A3 locomotives had an improved boiler, larger cylinders and a conversion from right to left hand drive. 27 of the class were built as A3 locomotives from the get go, with all of the in service A1 examples being converted before 1950, the last such example to undergo this transformation was the then BR numbered 60068 Sir Visto. Night Hawk first entered LNER service on the fairly pleasing 24th October 1924 as locomotive number 2577 as an A1 locomotive. Rebuilt in January 1944 to an A3, the locomotive would go in to be numbered 78, and then 60078 under BR. Night Hawk would go on to be withdrawn on the 22nd October 1962, almost making it a nice round 38 years in service, before being scrapped at Doncaster in 1963. - NEXT 18 DCC Decoder Socket - TT:120 Scale

TOUAX KFA 'Evergreen','NOL' & 'Delmas' 3x20 Containers Three different 20ft-long containers are featured with this version of Touax KFA, including those representing the Evergreen Marine Corporation, NOL (Neptune Orient Lines) and French shipping company Delmas. The KFA intermodal wagons were produced using bogies and components reclaimed from redundant wagons, such as the TEA tankers, and were built in Finland in the late 1980s for Tiphook Rail.  At just over 60ft-long, the KFA is able to accommodate a mix of different shipping containers from the standardised range, either three 20ft containers, or a 40ft plus 20ft container.  In total, 240 of these bogie flat wagons were produced and as well as intermodal work, have also been used for transporting waste material, military equipment and on rail infrastructure trains, for which some are still in use today.  As well as Tiphook Rail, the wagons have also been operated by Touax and Network Rail. - TT:120 Scale

Virgin handed over ten HST power cars in 2002. 43062 was given to Network Rail for use as part of the New Measurement Train (NMT). The locomotive was outshopped in a bright Network Rail yellow livery and because of this, the train was often referred to as the ‘Flying Banana’. The NMT travels at 125mph to monitor and record any faults on the track. 43062 was named ‘John Armitt’ after the chairman of the UK’s National Infrastructure Commission and had a red nameplate fitted. Loram UK won a Network Rail £8-million five-year contract to maintain the NMT in 2020. 43062 was recently overhauled at Loram Derby and returned to traffic in January 2024 with No. 43257 at the rear. Oxford Diecast Mini Tartan Red/Union Jack (TT)

Mini Tartan Red/Union Jack The Classic Mini is one of the iconic vehicles of the late 1950s and 1960s, launched in 1959 and created by Sir Alec Issigonis for Austin Motors.  It was quite revolutionary for its time, being small, economical, easy to drive and at 10 ft long, parking was no problem.  For the same reasons, the Mini remains a favourite even today, loved by celebrities, cult car enthusiasts and the everyday motorist. Its launch in 1:120 scale replicates its larger Oxford predecessors in exact detail.  Registered NLG 465B from 1964, our Austin Mini Cooper appears in bright red with a patriotic Union Flag masked red, white and blue on the roof. The external trim sees lots of chrome detailing to wheels, window surrounds, door handles, bumpers and headlight surrounds, as well as the Austin Cooper badge above the black and silver radiator grille. The interior is red with a black steering wheel. It’s just great to see this nippy little British motoring icon popping back into the range again.  - TT:120 Scale

Oxford Diecast Routemaster London Transport (TT)

Routemaster London Transport The Routemaster was first introduced in the early 50s by London Transport.It emerged as the most popular double decker bus of all time. As one man operated buses came more into use , some of the Routemasters were sold off to a variety of fleets throughout the U.K. Some vehicles were even exported for use in other countries. This history of Oxford Diecast and production in Swansea means the lineage of this model is quite interesting. Many rememember the Corgi (Mettoy) Routemaster that was manufactured in huge numbers. Back in the 1970's when ever we were short of production orders, we just inserted 250,000 buses into the programme. I recall many punch ups with the sales force, who would object strongly as they had the reponsibility of selling whatever was made. Needles to say when they were sold out and the warehouse was empty of Routemasters, they would quickly criticise the factory ! The Mettoy (Corgi) Routemaster was copied by many of the Hong Kong and Chinese manufacturers over the years. My favourite recollection was seeing a terrible copy by an Indian manufacturer. They had bought a sample, but the roof was not straight, there was a 'hump' on the top at the rear; on an internal cavity of the mould there was an insert that came lose from time to time - some production had slipped through with the 'hump' (probably night shhift) and that is what the Indian company had purchased for their sample. In London there was a company called Seener, named after the owner, we tooled up a version for him. He wanted a smaller model around 15/20% smaller to save costs, so we chose 1:76 scale - a lucky scale for Oxford. These carried the brand name SEEROL, named after the owners son ROLand SEEner. We made around 500,000 of these during the 1980's. The tooling eventually fell to pieces and the newly produced Oxford 1:76 variant appeared - it had for once wheel hubs that looked correct. - TT:120 Scale

BR Intercity, Mk3 Tourist First, 41099 In-order to allow running at 125 mph on Britain's Victorian era railways, new rolling stock was needed by British Railways. Significant improvements over the Mk2 included new secondary air suspension between the bogies and the coach body as well as aerodynamic skirting on the underframe. Mk3 coaches are 75ft (23m) long, enabling far greater capacity than older coaches. Mk3 coaches also incorporate disk brakes and wheel slip protection enabling faster deceleration. The first Mk3 coaches to be delivered were used as part of the HST prototype along with the two Class 41 diesel power cars in 1972. Mk3 coaches entered service in 1975 along with the Class 43 forming the iconic InterCity 125 trainset. After the HST Mk3 coach variant was introduced, further Mk3 coaches were introduced to the West Coast Mainline for use as part of locomotive hauled trains. Whilst Mk3 stock is standard for HST units, the standard locomotive hauled stock is Mk3a. Mk3a stock differs from Mk3 stock due to the inclusion of buffers as well as a different electrical system that uses motor generator units in each coach to power air conditioning and other ancillaries Mk3a stock was built until 1984, before 3B stock with improved seating and lighting was built from 1985 to 1988. The Mark 3 coaches were introduced into service with the Class 43s as the Intercity 125 service. This top flight service was dressed in a variation of BR Blue with a grey window surround. The Class 43s would be painted in a complimentary colour scheme with yellow noses for safety reasons. The Mark 3 coaches would continue in service in this scheme until the late 1990s.
