Railroad: BR Class 37 37501 'Teesside Steelmaster' ROG British Steel Blue
Built by English Electric at its Vulcan Foundry in Lancashire, the locomotive this RailRoad model is based on started life in January 1961 as D6705, going new to Stratford depot in London.
After becoming 37005 under TOPS, it was rebuilt as a Class 37/5 in April 1985, which included replacing its EE generator with a new Brush unit, and a complete re-wire, with a consequent renumbering to 37501. It was then painted into its distinctive British Steel pale blue colour scheme, gaining Thornaby Kingfisher motif and British Steel logos. It was then named ‘Teesside Steelmaster’ in 1987.
It was later modified for the proposed Channel Tunnel sleeper ‘Nightstar’ project (which was later aborted) to become a 37/6 in February 1995 and renumbered to 37601. It is currently one of six Class 37s leased by Rail Operations Group from Europhoenix for contracted movement of passenger stock, including EMUs. It was returned to its 1987 guise during a repaint in 2025.
This RailRoad model locomotive is a durable design, perfect for model railway beginners, younger enthusiasts, or anyone who enjoys running their trains daily.

This BR Class 56 model locomotive is pre-fitted with sound and controllable via your HM7000 app for an impressive digital hobby experience. With sprung metal buffers and NEM tension lock couplings, this stylish blue and yellow model is a wonderful addition to your model railway layout.
The 50th anniversary of the completion of the first Class 56 is marked in 2026. The first of the 135-strong class arrived at Harwich from Romania in 1976, before commissioning by BR the following year. Only 30 examples were imported, due to relatively poor build quality, and these were subsequently rebuilt.
The remainder of the class were assembled by BREL at Doncaster and Crewe, with Ashford, Eastleigh, and Swindon supplying sub-assemblies, while Ruston-Paxman supplied the power units. No.56001 was new to Tinsley and withdrawn from Cardiff Canton in September 1996 after 19 years and six months in service with BR.

Locomotive information:
Grand Central Railway purchased six Class 43 power cars and twenty-four Mk3 passenger coaches from Porterbrook Leasing in 2006. Major modifications were required for the Class 43 power cars to make them compatible with the Mk3 coaches. These included changing the train supply from three-phase to 1,000V conventional ETS, fitting jumper connections, changing the central door locking system and more modifications to the couplings and electrical systems. Grand Central launched their new London King’s Cross to Sunderland passenger service on 18 December 2007.
No. 43465 was outshopped from Crewe Works in October 1977 as 43065 in an InterCity Blue and Grey livery. The locomotive entered traffic straight after at Heaton. Not long after, it was repainted into an InterCity Swallow livery. In the late 1980s, 43065 was one of eight power cars fitted with buffers and TDM multiple working equipment to make sure it could work with brand new Class 91 electric locomotives using Mk3 rolling stock. Grand Central acquired 43065 and refurbished the locomotive at Brush Traction in 2010.
It faced a renumbering change to 43465 and acquired a new Grand Central black and orange striped livery. In 2017, the Grand Central Class 43 locomotives were purchased by East Midlands Trains with the last Grand Central HST service commencing on New Year’s Eve. By 2018, 43465 was painted in an East Midlands Trains blue livery with red and orange stripes. This livery was updated for the ex-Grand Central HSTs by featuring a deeper blue gradient. 43365 is currently in service as a Rail Adventure power car and was part of Rail Adventure’s first dive onto British rails, with the company previously only being based out of Germany.
No. 43484 was outshopped from Crewe Works on 25 February 1978 in a BR InterCity blue and yellow livery and was also part of unit 254015. The locomotive entered service in April of the same year. Not long after, it was repainted into an InterCity Swallow livery. In the late 1980s, 43084 was one of eight power cars fitted with buffers and TDM multiple working equipment to make sure it could work with brand new Class 91 electric locomotives using Mk3 rolling stock. Grand Central acquired 43084 and overhauled the locomotive at Brush Traction in 2010. It faced a renumbering change to 43484 and acquired a new Grand Central black and orange striped livery.
In 2017, the Grand Central Class 43 locomotives were purchased by East Midlands Trains with the last Grand Central HST service commencing on New Year’s Eve. 43484 was part of a farewell tour for the Grand Central HSTs called The Grand Farewell with the promoters being The Branch Line Society. As for temporary names, the locomotive carried ‘County of Derbyshire’ and then ‘Peter Fox 1942-2011 Platform 5’ nameplates up until the end of The Grand Farewell tour.
By 2018, 43484 was painted in an East Midlands Trains blue livery with red and orange stripes. This livery was updated for the ex-Grand Central HSTs by featuring a deeper blue gradient. 43484 is currently in service as a Rail Adventure power car and was part of Rail Adventure’s first dive onto British rails, with the company previously only being based out of Germany. 43484 was outshopped from the painters in Rail Adventure grey on 19 April 2021.

Locomotive information and history:
Ruston 432478 was built new for British Railways, being delivered in January 1959 to the North Eastern Region Civil Engineers Department at the Leeman Road Permanent Way Stockyard in York, one of six Ruston & Hornsby 88DS locomotives built for British Railways which were distributed between York, Dinsdale Depot, Etherley Tip, Crofton, Hartlepool and Darlington. As well as working shunting duties at Leeman Road, 432478 also worked at the York Central Concrete Depot, which is now the site of the Railway Museum's main visitor car park.
Ruston & Hornsby Ltd, of Lincoln, was formed as the result of the merger between Ruston, Proctor & Co. Ltd and Richard Hornsby & Sons Ltd on September 11, 1918 and their first narrow gauge diesel locomotive left the works on September 1, 1931. In the summer of 1932, production was moved to the larger Boultham Works, where the firm were eventually to become Britain's largest builder of diesel locomotives, with over 6,500 being built by the time production ceased in 1969. Almost as soon as the firm's 44/48HP 0-4-0 locomotives were making an appearance, an upgraded, more powerful 0-4-0 was on the drawing board.
Although many of the features of the 44/48HP were retained for the new 80/88HP, such as the chain drive and running gear, a new type of transmission was fitted, along with Westinghouse airbrakes. The new power unit, Ruston's own 4VPB, delivered 80BHP at 1000rpm and was later supplanted by Ruston's improved 4VPH that delivered 88BHP, but it required compressed air to be injected into the cylinders to be able to start. While running, an air reservoir was kept charged via the braking system, but after standing idle for a period the reservoir depleted and a secondary source was required to recharge the reservoir. This was achieved by fitting a small, secondary 1½HP 'donkey' engine, giving rise to a distinctive raised cover on the right hand side of the engine compartment that differed in size and placement depending on the make of engine used. Two basic weight options were offered for the 80/88HP, of 17 tons and 20 tons, the difference being achieved by attaching weights to the outside frames, as well as to the front and rear buffer beams.
In 1941, Ruston's locomotive classifications were changed, with the 80/88HP becoming 88DS (with the narrow gauge versions being assigned the DSM and DSN suffix, and the broader gauges assigned DSW). Outward appearance changes to the 'standard' locomotives were mainly confined to the cab area, with examples from mid-1947 replacing the open cab with a fully enclosed cab that featured several ad-hoc styles of front window. The final 88DS, 518494, left Boultham Works on 29 November 1967, bringing to an end a production run of 271 locomotives.
