Hornby Railroad: BR Class 37 37501 'Teesside Steelmaster'(Sound Fitted)

Railroad: BR Class 37 37501 'Teesside Steelmaster' ROG British Steel Blue (Sound Fitted) Built by English Electric at its Vulcan Foundry in Lancashire, the locomotive this RailRoad model is based on started life in January 1961 as D6705, going new to Stratford depot in London.  After becoming 37005 under TOPS, it was rebuilt as a Class 37/5 in April 1985, which included replacing its EE generator with a new Brush unit, and a complete re-wire, with a consequent renumbering to 37501. It was then painted into its distinctive British Steel pale blue colour scheme, gaining Thornaby Kingfisher motif and British Steel logos. It was then named ‘Teesside Steelmaster’ in 1987.  It was later modified for the proposed Channel Tunnel sleeper ‘Nightstar’ project (which was later aborted) to become a 37/6 in February 1995 and renumbered to 37601. It is currently one of six Class 37s leased by Rail Operations Group from Europhoenix for contracted movement of passenger stock, including EMUs. It was returned to its 1987 guise during a repaint in 2025.  This RailRoad model locomotive is a durable design, perfect for model railway beginners, younger enthusiasts, or anyone who enjoys running their trains daily. Railroad: BR Class 08 08256 BR Blue (Sound Fitted) A total of 996 of the diesel electric shunters were built at various BR works between 1952 and 1962. As the standard BR general-purpose diesel shunter, the type became a common sight at major stations and freight yards across the country.  The locomotive this example is based on started life as 13326 in November 1956, having been completed at Darlington, and was new to New England, Peterborough. It later served at Sheffield Darnall, Tinsley, Finsbury Park, Hitchin, Startford and finally, from May 1968 at Colchester, from where it was withdrawn in February 1984. It was cut-up at Doncaster Works by January the following year.  Our RailRoad range is more durable than our standard range, making it perfect for beginners, children, and the most enthusiastic of model railway runners. It inherited a variety of locomotives and rolling stock from BR, including InterCity 125 HST sets.  Class 43 power car 43093 had been named ‘York Festival 88’ under BR, but was renamed ‘Lady in Red’ in 1997, which it carried until 2003, while 43097 had been called ‘The Light Infantry’ until 1990, but entered service with Virgin CrossCountry without a name. The first of the 135-strong class arrived at Harwich from Romania in 1976, before commissioning by BR the following year. Only 30 examples were imported, due to relatively poor build quality, and these were subsequently rebuilt.  The remainder of the class were assembled by BREL at Doncaster and Crewe, with Ashford, Eastleigh, and Swindon supplying sub-assemblies, while Ruston-Paxman supplied the power units. History: Released into BR traffic from Vulcan Foundry as D6971 on 18 March 1965, this locomotive was first allocated to Cardiff Canton. It was rebuilt as a Class 37/4 and renumbered 37418 in 1985 and transferred to Inverness. It received its unusual name ‘An Commun Gaidhealach’ (The Gaelic Association) at Edinburgh in October 1986, before entering the Provincial General Pool from January 1989.  It was renamed ‘Pectindae’ in April 1992, and then ‘East Lancashire Railway’ in April 1994, eventually being sold to a private owner in 2007 by EWS. It is currently on-hire to freight operator Loram Rail and painted in its livery, the ‘An Commun Gaidhealach’ name being reinstated in February 2024. - OO Scale

With the decline in the handling of individual goods wagons and the need to assemble trains, by 2000 there were just 100 left in service, with large numbers either scrapped, exported or sold into industrial use. The production ‘Deltics’ were a powerful Type 5 locomotive, designed for high-speed express passenger services on the East Coast Main Line. Powered by two big Napier diesel engines, these locomotives – later known as Class 55s – were capable of speeds of up to 117mph (188km/h) and all were given names in the best tradition of East Coast express locomotives.
