Railroad: BR Class 60 60038 'Avesta Polarit' EWS (Sound Fitted) A growth in demand in the heavy haulage sector led to a review of BR’s available motive power in the 1980s. With 185 locomotives of the Type 5, 3,000+ horsepower category available, made up of its Classes 56 and 58, it was clear that more would be needed, and BR put out an invitation to tender for new locomotives in 1987.  The 100 locomotive order was awarded to Brush in Loughborough, and these entered service between 1989 and 1993. No.60038 was named ‘Bidean nam Bian’ after the Scottish ‘Munro’ in Glen Coe.  With BR’s trainload freight business broken up into shadow franchises, the locomotive became part of Loadhaul, based in the north-east. By 1996, this had become part of EWS and 60038 was named 'Avesta Polarit' after the steel making company at the DFDS Immingham sea terminal on 19th March 2002. Railroad: BR Class 60 60039 'Dove Holes' DB Cargo (Sound Fitted)  Entering service at Cardiff Canton in 1991, 60039 was originally named ‘Glastonbury Tor’ as part of the hills and peaks theme of the initial Class 60 naming convention.  It was later one of the locomotives selected for the ‘Super 60’ upgrade programme announced by DBS/DB Cargo in November 2010 that was designed to extend their working life by a further 15 years. No.60039 was named ‘Dove Holes’ in April 2015 and was used on limestone traffic out of Derbyshire. It is still owned by DB Cargo and is one of 52 members of the class put into storage by the company.  We've recreated this impressive locomotive in RailRoad form, bringing the most important details to life and adding features to enhance durability, making this the perfect model for regular layout use. Railroad: BR Class 60 60069 'Humphrey Davy' Coal Sector (Sound Fitted)  The Class 60s were the last heavy haulers built for BR. No.60069 was allocated to BR’s Train Load Freight (TLF) Coal Sector and named ‘Humphrey Davy’, in honour of the inventor of the miner’s safety lamp.  Following the break-up of TLF, the Class 60s were divided between three of the shadow franchises: Mainline Freight, Loadhaul, and Transrail Freight, but not long after they were formed they were absorbed into English, Welsh & Scottish (EWS). By 2007, it was estimated that the operational fleet was down to just 60 locomotives, the rest either in store or undergoing repair. That year, EWS was acquired by DB Schenker, a wholly-owned subsidiary of German railway company, Deutche Bahn.  Our RailRoad Class 60 model represents 'Humphrey Davy' in detail, but with added features that make for a much more durable locomotive. Plus, it is pre-fitted with a DCC sound chip for the most authentic model railway experience. History: Released into BR traffic from Vulcan Foundry as D6971 on 18 March 1965, this locomotive was first allocated to Cardiff Canton. It was rebuilt as a Class 37/4 and renumbered 37418 in 1985 and transferred to Inverness. It received its unusual name ‘An Commun Gaidhealach’ (The Gaelic Association) at Edinburgh in October 1986, before entering the Provincial General Pool from January 1989.  It was renamed ‘Pectindae’ in April 1992, and then ‘East Lancashire Railway’ in April 1994, eventually being sold to a private owner in 2007 by EWS. It is currently on-hire to freight operator Loram Rail and painted in its livery, the ‘An Commun Gaidhealach’ name being reinstated in February 2024. - OO Scale

RailRoad: Class 08, 08512 EWS (Sound Fitted) This RailRoad Class 08 Shunter is the ideal model for arranging wagons in a goods yard and is suitable for model railway layouts large or small. The Class 08 350hp diesel electric shunter was the standard BR general-purpose shunting locomotive with 996 examples built between 1952 and 1962. They could be found shunting large marshalling yards and smaller goods depots. With the decline in the handling of individual goods wagons and the need to assemble trains, by 2000 there were just 100 left in service, with large numbers either scrapped, exported or sold into industrial use. The production ‘Deltics’ were a powerful Type 5 locomotive, designed for high-speed express passenger services on the East Coast Main Line. When introduced in 1961, these were the most powerful diesel locomotives in the world. Powered by two big Napier diesel engines, these locomotives – later known as Class 55s – were capable of speeds of up to 117mph (188km/h) and all were given names in the best tradition of East Coast express locomotives.
