BR FVX Carflat Wagon BR Blue 'Motorail' 'B745075' Carflat Wagons allowed cars to be transported by rail, a practice that had started during the early twentieth century, but which became more common after World War Two as more families began realising the dream of owning their own motor vehicle. Many were built from old coach underframes that had had their bodies scrapped, with the type really coming to the fore in 1966 when British Rail launched its Motorail service, providing British holidaymakers with long distance train services where they could take their car on holiday with them, giving the convenience of independent transport whilst on holiday but without the long drive to get there. This Bachmann Branchline model depicts a BR-built Carflat, which to all intents and purposes is a standard BR Mk1 coach underframe running on a pair of BR B1 bogies. The deck of the vehicle is planked, and low side railings are fitted to prevent vehicles from accidentally driving off the side. HKA Bogie Hopper DB Schenker '300649' The HKA Bogie Hopper Wagons originated from JMA Coal Hoppers which were ordered by National Power in the mid-1990s. After being acquired by EWS, many of the JMA fleet were fitted with new bogies and the resulting wagons received the TOPS code HKA – with their use subsequently expanded to aggregate traffic too. It is these wagons that form the prototype for this Bachmann Branchline model and the two variants – inner or outer wagons – can be modelled to suit individual needs. In normal operation HKAs run in fixed rakes with only buffers and conventional couplings fitted to the outer ends of the rake. Initially only three types were built, Tourist Second Opens, First Opens and Brake Second Opens, but some First Opens were later converted into Restaurant First Buffets, whilst several Brake Second Opens were fitted with a driving cab at one end, becoming Driving Brake Second Opens for push-pull use. When it comes to the Bachmann Branchline model, we’ve gone to great lengths to replicate every detail of the Mk2F in miniature. The Distinctive Mk2 shape is captured to a tee whilst on the roof, the ventilators are expertly moulded, and the toilet panels are completed with metal wire grab handles. Each end features separately fitted metal handrails, the corridor gangway doors are modelled faithfully, even down to the two small windows, and the end footsteps at each corner are also included. Additional accessories are supplied which can be fitted to the ends, including the ETH socket and cabling, a choice of interchangeable tail lamps and lamp brackets, and alternative buffers allowing users to choose between extended or retracted buffers. On the bodysides each door is complete with hinges, handles and even door bumper details, whilst the flush, tinted glazing gives these coaches their characteristic streamlined appearance. Part way through their careers the Mk2Fs were fitted with door interlock lights, and these too are modelled where appropriate and are fully functional on DCC On Board models (when used on DCC). Take a look below the solebar and you will find a full complement of equipment – all necessary for the braking, electrical and air-conditioning systems. The B4 bogies are fitted with metal wheelsets that run in metal bearings, with each bogie constructed from several components to ensure that the springs, suspension, brakes and, where relevant, footsteps can all be modelled in full relief. The tension lock couplings fit into NEM pockets that are mounted on a close-coupling mechanism which is fitted to the coach floor, operating in tandem with the bogie as it turns. Inside each model is an interior featuring the prototypical layout of tables and chairs, and brake vehicles even contain the luggage compartment caging, whilst the icing on the cake is the livery application, using authentic colours, logos and fonts to give every model an exquisite appearance. This coach does not have windows as it wasn’t meant for carrying passengers, it contained the guard’s van. The model has detail underneath and metal wheels for finer running. Newton Chambers Car Carrier BR Maroon [W] no.E96297E Using new tooling developed for EFE Rail, this OO scale model depicts the Newton Chambers Car Carriers when first introduced on British Railways’ Eastern Region in 1961. The double-deck bogie vehicles were employed primarily on Anglo Scottish services, transporting up to six cars to provide travellers with their own independent means of transport when their rail journey reached its destination. The EFE Rail model captures the distinct character of these vehicles, with finely-moulded panel lines throughout the model and accurate end detailing. The bogies, with their unique 6ft 9in. wheelbase, are something to behold; capturing the relief of the axleboxes and spring leaf suspension, with full brake gear push/pull rods and safety loops fitted separately between the frames. SR, Luggage Van, 2467 - Era 3 Includes: - Olive Green Livery - Fine detailed handrails - Window detailing - NEM Coupling pockets - OO Scale Vehicle information and history: The Southern Railway Ganward Bogie Luggage Vans were initially introduced in SR Olive Green livery, a very small number gained malachite. Under British Railways they were in crimson, with as few as six painted BR Green. All were withdrawn during 1959 and 1960 with twelve lasting to 1961 for pigeon traffic. A few entered departmental use and two have been preserved. Number S2464S was painted in Pullman car livery in July 1962 and stored in readiness to be used as Sir Winston Churchill's funeral hearse on 30th January 1965. In total 120 of these bogie luggage vans were built between 1930 and 1931 utilising ex LSWR underframes and bogies surplus from the bogie block set coach bodies having been converted to electric stock. This model continues our affection for this particular van by presenting an alternate livery, another choice that may appeal to the collector drawn to a new appearence of this enduringly popular invention.

Mk4 Driving Van Trailer (DVT) - GNER Livery Built at Metro-Cammell's Washwood Heath factory, 314 Mk4 coaches were produced between 1989 and 1992. They were built specifically for use on the newly electrified East Coast Main Line, along with hopes that a second order for the West Coast Main Line would be placed at a later date, although this second order never transpired. Mk4 coaches featured many improvements over the Mk3s such as push-button operated plug-type doors, fully sealed gangways and a designed top speed of 140mph. Much of the Mk4 design was based upon the Advanced Passenger Train. In particular, Mk4 coaches feature sides profiled to allow a tilt of up to 6° with newly fitted tilting bogies. Mk4s entered service in 1989 and helped drive a significant increase in passenger traffic. With privatisation in 1996, all Mk4 coaches were sold to Evershot Rail Group who have since leased them out to the holder of the InterCity East Coast Franchise. The franchise was initially awarded to Great North Eastern Railway (GNER) and has since been operated by National Express East Coast, East Coast, Virgin Trains East Coast and London North Eastern Railway (LNER) owned by the Department for Transport. Between October 2003 and November 2005 Bombardier Transportation, under contract from GNER, commenced refurbishment of the Mk4 stock, fitting new seating arrangements and introduced onboard Wi-Fi, a first for British rail services. This refurbishment programme was called 'Project Mallard' named after the Mallard steam locomotive, built in the 1930s by the London & North Eastern Railway and holder of the world speed record for steam locomotives. Built by Metro-Cammell for inclusion in the InterCity 225 sets, 32 Mk4 Driving Van Trailers (DVTs) were built with the bodyshell manufactured under sub-contract by Breda in Italy. Whilst they were designed to operate with Class 91 locomotives as part of the InterCity 225 set, Mk4 DVTs have also operated with Class 90 and Class 89 locomotives. Although Mk4 DVTs have spent most of their lives on the ECML, they are now being cascaded down to other franchises including Transport for Wales due to the introduction of the Class 800 and Class 801 IEPs.
