LNER 12T Ventilated Fruit Van BR Bauxite (Early) Britain’s railways were developed primarily to move freight and the early railway companies employed vans of many different designs to transport goods and merchandise that required covered transport. Each railway company had its own designs, some of which were intended for specific traffic like this Fruit Van built by the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER). The fruit vans sported louvres at each end and ventilators on the roof to allow fresh air to circulate within, keeping fruit fresh during its journey. This Branchline models depicts one of those wooden bodied vans and the planked body is replicated with fine engraving, with precision moulding to capture every detail of the sliding doors and their mechanism, topped off with a separately fitted metal door handle. On the roof, the six ventilators are each moulded in full relief before being added individually, the central pair being offset as per the prototype. The chassis employs metal wheelsets of the 3-hole disc variety around which safety loops are added from formed metal wire, whilst the brakes, brake handles and associated gear is all included. Representing a van fitted with vacuum brakes, the brake cylinder is mounted underneath the wagon and brake pipes are fitted to each bufferbeam alongside metal buffer heads cosmetic coupling hooks. Avanti West Coast, Class 390, 'Climate change' Coach Pack 1 This Class 390 Coach Pack in its striking Climate Change livery includes First Class trailer car J and Standard trailer car U. Introduced in July 2002 for high-speed electric passenger services, 53 eight/nine-car Class 390 units were initially built for use on the WCML on lease from Angel Trains. These were transferred from Virgin Trains to Avanti West Coast in December 2019. Another four of the tilting sets were added between 2010 and 2012. From 2012, 31 of the original units were increased to 11-coach sets, including set No. 390121, which in 2021, was decorated in a special ‘Ride Against Climate Change’ livery to mark Cop26 – the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow. Newton Chambers Car Carrier BR Maroon [W] no.E96297E Using new tooling developed for EFE Rail, this OO scale model depicts the Newton Chambers Car Carriers when first introduced on British Railways’ Eastern Region in 1961. The double-deck bogie vehicles were employed primarily on Anglo Scottish services, transporting up to six cars to provide travellers with their own independent means of transport when their rail journey reached its destination. The EFE Rail model captures the distinct character of these vehicles, with finely-moulded panel lines throughout the model and accurate end detailing. The bogies, with their unique 6ft 9in. wheelbase, are something to behold; capturing the relief of the axleboxes and spring leaf suspension, with full brake gear push/pull rods and safety loops fitted separately between the frames. Pinpoint metal wheels ensure smooth running whilst the tension lock coupling is mounted via NEM socket which is mounted on a close-coupling mechanism built into the vehicle’s floor. SR, Luggage Van, 2467 - Era 3 Includes: - Olive Green Livery - Fine detailed handrails - Window detailing - NEM Coupling pockets - OO Scale Vehicle information and history: The Southern Railway Ganward Bogie Luggage Vans were initially introduced in SR Olive Green livery, a very small number gained malachite. Under British Railways they were in crimson, with as few as six painted BR Green. All were withdrawn during 1959 and 1960 with twelve lasting to 1961 for pigeon traffic. A few entered departmental use and two have been preserved. Number S2464S was painted in Pullman car livery in July 1962 and stored in readiness to be used as Sir Winston Churchill's funeral hearse on 30th January 1965. In total 120 of these bogie luggage vans were built between 1930 and 1931 utilising ex LSWR underframes and bogies surplus from the bogie block set coach bodies having been converted to electric stock. This model continues our affection for this particular van by presenting an alternate livery, another choice that may appeal to the collector drawn to a new appearence of this enduringly popular invention.
