<p>PCA Metalair Bulk Powder Wagon &#039;Blue Circle Cement&#039; Grey [W]
Rail has long been the favoured mode of transport for moving bulk goods and cement is just one commodity for which specialised wagons have been developed to facilitate this. In the mid-Twentieth century British Railways introduced the &amp;lsquo;Presflo&amp;rsquo; wagons to carry powdered cement, which had previously been conveyed in goods vans in bagged form, and as time moved on new designs were sought to replace the distinctive &amp;lsquo;Presflos&amp;rsquo;. Many of the new cement wagons, which were coded PCAs under the Total Operations Processing System (TOPS), featured depressed centres or &amp;lsquo;V&amp;rsquo; tanks, but the &amp;lsquo;Metalairs&amp;rsquo; built for Blue Circle Cement had parallel tanks. The wagons were built by Powell Duffryn and Procor in the mid-1980s and used a discharge system developed by Metalair; many remain in use today.
The Bachmann Branchline &amp;lsquo;Metalair&amp;rsquo; wagons are faithful 4mm scale replicas of the real thing, using injection moulded bodyshells to capture the distinctive shape of the parallel tank that is then adorned with separate tank filler hatches, walkways, ladders and end pipework. The chassis boasts a wealth of fine detail too, from the suspension and axleboxes which are modelled in full relief to the discharge pipework and brake components that are each added individually. The bufferbeams are finished with metal buffer heads, a cosmetic coupling hook and lamp iron, while metal wheelsets are employed along with NEM coupling pockets.

<p>LNER 12T Ventilated Fruit Van BR Bauxite (Early)
Britain&amp;rsquo;s railways were developed primarily to move freight and the early railway companies employed vans of many different designs to transport goods and merchandise that required covered transport. Each railway company had its own designs, some of which were intended for specific traffic like this Fruit Van built by the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER). The fruit vans sported louvres at each end and ventilators on the roof to allow fresh air to circulate within, keeping fruit fresh during its journey.
This Branchline models depicts one of those wooden bodied vans and the planked body is replicated with fine engraving, with precision moulding to capture every detail of the sliding doors and their mechanism, topped off with a separately fitted metal door handle. On the roof, the six ventilators are each moulded in full relief before being added individually, the central pair being offset as per the prototype.
The chassis employs metal wheelsets of the 3-hole disc variety around which safety loops are added from formed metal wire, whilst the brakes, brake handles and associated gear is all included. Representing a van fitted with vacuum brakes, the brake cylinder is mounted underneath the wagon and brake pipes are fitted to each bufferbeam alongside metal buffer heads cosmetic coupling hooks.

<p>BR 12T Ventilated Van Plywood Sides BR Bauxite (TOPS)
British Railways (BR) inherited a wide range of rolling stock upon Nationalisation in 1948, much of which was aging or in need of modern replacement and so a programme to build new vehicles soon commenced. These new vehicles were built to a variety of standardised designs and the 12 Ton Ventilated Van, which was used to transport general merchandise, was one of the most numerous types of freight vehicle built by BR. Employing a metal chassis, the van was constructed from corrugated metal ends with a ventilator in each, with a metal body frame which was panelled with wooden planks or plywood sheets.
The Bachmann Branchline model is a faithful replica of the humble 12T Van, using a precision moulded body that accurately captures the corrugated ends and smooth plywood sides, along with finer details like the body framing, door hinges and locking mechanisms. The roof includes the characteristic rain strips above each set of double doors and the rivets securing the roof are neatly moulded at either end. The chassis is similarly detailed, being fitted with separate brake gear, brake handles and vacuum cylinders, complete with the linkage between the two &amp;lsquo;V&amp;rsquo; hangers. Metal wheels and axles are employed, along with turned metal buffers; meanwhile the couplings are fitted via NEM coupling pockets allowing full interchangeability for those wishing to use an alternative coupling system.

The POA Scrap Wagons were built from new or converted from other, redundant types, during the 1980s to carry scrap metal. The open box design was loaded and unloaded using grab machines or electro-magnets and the wagons entered traffic in a bold blue and yellow colour scheme. Built by Standard Wagon and owned privately by Standard Railfreight, in 1990 British Rail purchased the fleet of 191 wagons upon which they were recoded as SSA under the Total Operations Processing System (TOPS).
The Bachmann Branchline model boasts an injection moulded bodyshell with separately fitted ladders on either side. The chassis incorporates a heavy metal weight providing a low centre of gravity which, combined with the blackened metal wheelsets, ensures smooth and reliable running.

Britain&amp;rsquo;s railways were developed primarily to move freight and the early railway companies employed vans of many different designs to transport goods and merchandise that required covered transport. Each railway company had its own designs, and a defining feature of the Southern Railway&amp;rsquo;s standard vans was the elliptical roof. The vans were clad with planks of an even width, although later builds employed two widths of plank in a 2+2 formation, and later still plywood cladding was also used. The ventilators fitted at either end of the van allowed fresh air to circulate inside keeping perishable items cool whilst in transport.
This Branchline models depicts one of the many ventilated vans built with even cladding, replicated with fine engraving whilst precision moulding captures the external bracing of the van body and the door hinges and locking detail, even down to individual rivets. The chassis employs metal wheelsets of the 3-hole disc variety, whilst the brakes, brake handles and associated gear is all included. Representing a van fitted with vacuum brakes, the brake cylinder is mounted underneath the wagon and brake pipes are fitted to each bufferbeam alongside metal buffer heads cosmetic coupling hooks.

The POA Mineral Wagons were created in the late-1980s by building new bodies onto the chassis of redundant tank wagons in order to move aggregates. Owned by Tiger Rail, the wagons were leased to ARC and Foster Yeoman but within a few years, larger bogie wagons were being introduced and the POAs were gradually displaced onto a variety of traffic including scrap metal and coal. Later the wagons were purchased by British Rail and most ended up in engineering use.
The Bachmann Branchline model employs a precision bodyshell with panel lines and ribs moulded both inside and out. Individual ladders are fitted to the body and chassis on each side. The chassis features separate brake shoes, brake handles, linkage and auxiliary gear, meanwhile the bufferbeam is completed with metal buffer heads, a coupling hook and lamp iron. Like all Branchline models, metal wheelsets are fitted as standard to ensure smooth running, and NEM coupling pockets make it easy to fit an alternative coupling system where required.

<p>POA Mineral Wagon &#039;Yeoman/Tiger&#039; Grey TRL5355

<p>JGA Bogie Hopper DB Schenker Red &#039;RMC 19232&#039;
The JGA Bogie Hoppers were built in Slovakia in the mid-1990s for Buxton Lime Industries and Tilcon, primarily working from Tunstead Quarry, operated by Buxton Lime Industries, near Buxton on the edge of the Peak District. Consisting of a large hopper with three pairs of bottom discharge doors, the wagons were used to transport lime products from the quarry for distribution around the UK and the type remains in use in limited numbers today.
Reproduced in OO Scale by Bachmann Branchline, the JGA model features a precision moulded bodyshell which captures the wagon&amp;rsquo;s distinctive sloping ends with their ribbed constructed. Below the solebar, the three sets of discharge doors are added separately, meanwhile a metal weight is concealed above each bogie to ensure smooth running. The bogies themselves are fitted with metal wheels and axles whilst the integrated NEM coupling pockets allow alternative couplings to be fitted with ease. Separate brakes are added and the bogies each sport spring and suspension detailing in full relief. The bold red livery of DB Schenker faithfully adorns the model, complete with the various markings and operating instructions that are found on the real wagons.

<p>LMS 20T Brake Van LMS (L M S) Grey &#039;730037&#039;
This new Bachmann Branchline model of the LMS Standard 20 Ton Brake Van sets a new standard for these iconic vehicles, of which 2,774 examples were built between 1935 and 1950, first by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) and then by British Railways (BR) who recognised the merits of the LMS design.
With an extensive tooling suite catering for many of the variations that were incorporated into the real vans during their construction and subsequent use, authentic models can be produced of brake vans in their early years when first entering traffic in the 1930s, to their final days in departmental use at the end of the twentieth century.
Boasting a wealth of detail, from the separately fitted metal handrails to the individual brake components and cabin interior, the new Branchline models are fitted with blackened metal wheelsets and NEM coupling pockets, providing smooth running and operational versatility alongside their good looks. The icing on the cake is the livery application, with rich paintwork and authentic numbering and markings, completing this valuable addition to the extensive range of Branchline goods rolling stock.

<p>BR VBA Van EWS &#039;200557&#039;&amp;nbsp;
In the late 1960s British Railways required air braked stock to operate its new Air-Braked Network services – which would later be known as Speedlink -&amp;nbsp; and the Cov AB (Covered, Air Braked) van provided the answer, becoming BR&amp;rsquo;s first general purpose air braked van. Introduced from 1969, the Cov ABs had a modern appearance in comparison to the wooden box vans in widespread use at the time and the side of the van was constructed from a pair of doors, providing large openings for loading/unloading. When the Total Operations Processing System (TOPS) was introduced in the 1970s the vans were given the TOPS code VAB, VAA, VBA or VBB. Used to transport general merchandise, the vans were often marshalled into mixed goods trains as opposed to being operated as uniform rakes and could carry all manner of general merchandise. By the 1980s their traffic was reducing and so commenced their withdrawal although a small number remained in service towards the end of the century, coming under private ownership following Privatisation.
The Bachmann Branchline model employs a highly detailed bodyshell which boasts precision moulded panel lines, door handles and mechanisms, and fine rivet detailing. At either end a separate lamp iron is present, along with metal buffers and a cosmetic coupling hook. The solebar includes prototypical detailing along with the door runners, whilst the wagon&amp;rsquo;s suspension and brake gear is added using separate components. The metal wheelsets are mounted on a pivoting frame, allowing this long wheelbase wagon to traverse tight curves with ease whilst NEM coupling pockets are also incorporated. Authentic colours and typefaces are employed during the livery application process, completing this high-fidelity model.

The VDA van was a development of British Rail&amp;rsquo;s Cov AB air-braked van which was first introduced in the late 1960s, with the VDAs entering traffic from 1975. Sharing the same 20ft 9in wheelbase as the original Cov ABs, the VDAs not only had sliding doors to allow the sides to be fully opened for loading/unloading but these doors could also be opened individually as cupboard doors to allow quicker access to just one internal area. The vans entered traffic in Speedlink services and were used to transport general merchandise, often being marshalled into mixed goods trains as opposed to being operated as uniform rakes and could carry all manner of general merchandise. By the 1980s their traffic was reducing and so many VDAs were rebuilt to suit new traffic, most notably as OTA timber carrying wagons or low sided ballast/spoil wagons where were often coded as ZCA &amp;lsquo;Sea Urchins&amp;rsquo;.

Brake Vans were once essential parts of any goods train and each railway company had its own designs, but perhaps none were as iconic and widely recognised as the Great Western Railway&amp;rsquo;s (GWR) &amp;lsquo;Toad&amp;rsquo; Brake Van. Found across the GWR network from the late 1800s and into BR ownership serving the Western Region and beyond, the &amp;lsquo;Toad&amp;rsquo; provided guards with a spacious cabin and large veranda at one end giving this classic GWR design its distinctive appearance.
The Bachmann Branchline &amp;lsquo;Toad&amp;rsquo; features an injection moulded bodyshell with plank detail alongside representations of the bodyside handrails and lamp brackets that were fixed to each side and end. The handbrake wheel sits prominently inside the open sided veranda, joined by two sandboxes, whilst below the solebar footboards are fitted separately, and metal spoked wheelsets are employed to provide smooth running. The livery application is to the high standard associated you&amp;rsquo;ve come to expect from a Bachmann Branchline model, making this &amp;lsquo;Toad&amp;rsquo; a perfect addition to any goods wagon fleet.

<p>HRA Bogie Hopper DB Cargo 41 70 6723 036-3
The HRA Bogie Hopper Wagon is the next modern freight wagon to receive the Bachmann Branchline treatment and this model sports the vibrant red livery of DB Cargo. The first HRA entered traffic in 2017, being created by cutting down the HTA wagons, of which more than 1,000 were built for EWS to transport coal. With the phasing out of coal fired power stations, a new use for the HTAs was needed. As stone is far denser than coal, repurposing HTA wagons for aggregate was inefficient as they could not be fully loaded before becoming overweight, therefore shortening the wagons allowed the same payload to be moved with a shorter length train than if unmodified HTAs were used. To create the HRAs, one hopper bay is removed from the HTA before the two ends are welded back together, and these changes are faithfully reproduced on these OO scale models.
The &amp;lsquo;cut and shut&amp;rsquo; nature of the rebuilds is evidenced by the weld lines midway along the wagon sides and these marks are captured in model form, along with details such as the hopper doors, handwheels and separate pipe runs. Each wagon runs on bogies fitted with metal wheelsets and comes pre-fitted with buckeye couplings – as fitted to most of the prototypes. Standard tension lock couplings which fit into the NEM coupling pockets on the bogies are supplied for optional fitting. DB Cargo&amp;rsquo;s bright red provides the base colour, against which the logo, safety warnings, instructions and TOPS information all in white contrasts. Buffers are also supplied as optional fittings, allowing wagons to be configured as &amp;lsquo;inners&amp;rsquo; without any buffers or as &amp;lsquo;outers&amp;rsquo; which usually carry buffers at one end only.

<p>HRA Bogie Hopper DB Cargo 41 70 6723 073-6&amp;nbsp;
