Class 59/2 59201 "Vale of York" EWS
The Class 59 is a Co-Co formation diesel locomotive and the first US produced, privately-owned locomotive to operate regularly in the UK. The ordering of the first Class 59 was a result of quarry company Foster Yeomans dissatisfaction with the performance of the BR Class 56. The first 4 locomotives built by GMs Electromotive Division were delivered to Foster Yeoman during 1986 and 59005 in 1989. Proving very successful; one locomotive setting a new UK haulage record for a single locomotive of 4639 tonnes. Foster Yeomans rivals, Amey Roadstone Corp. (ARC) also ordered four modified Class 59s (59/1) as did National Power, who ordered six (59/2). GM invested in this initial UK success by extensively modifying the class 59 internally to produce the Class 66, also hugely successful, within both the UK and Continental Europe.

Subsequent freight operators, Freightliner, GB Railfreight and Direct Rail Services (DRS) also ordered batches of these locomotives. Overall the locomotive has been successful in service, offering improved reliability and performance over its predecessors. However the locomotive has also had its critics, partly due to the comfort the design offered drivers and staff and probably their ubiquity, ousting many different types of British built locomotives commonly seen prior to its commissioning. As a testament to the commercial success of the Class 66, it has been certified for use in many European countries (known as the Series 66) and can be seen commonly in Germany, Poland and Sweden amongst others. During its long service, the locomotive has been modified many times including low emission variants for greener running and highly geared models for hauling heavier loads albeit at slower speeds. The Class 66 is still in operation and is used by DB, GBRf, Freightliner, DRS and Colas Rail.
Features:

Smooth running 5 pole next generation motor

Class 66 '66734' "Platinum Jubilee" GBRf Jubilee Pink
The Class 66 is a type of Co-Co heavy freight locomotive and was originally ordered by EWS to replace and update the freight fleet post privatisation in 1996. 250 Class 66s were ordered from General Motors Electromotive Division (EMD) and these were built in London, Ontario, Canada.

All wheel pickup
All wheel drive via re-worked smooth drive low maintenance mechanism
Die-cast chassis
DCC Sound ready, Next-18 decoder socket (recommended 6 function decoder)
Independent directional front/rear main lighting control—day and night lighting with four light clusters being modelled
Independent directional front/rear cab lighting control
Main lamp and cab lighting override switches for DC users (Independent front/rear control) Two cab window designs modelled
Removable self-centring close coupling mechanism with NEM pockets
Standard NEM fitting N Gauge couplers
RP 25 wheels
Newly tooled highly detailed body and fittings
Accessory bag with etched nameplates and detailed buffer beam fittings

NER Class E1 (LNER J72) '2173' NER Lined Black
First built in 1898 as a smaller wheel shunting variant of the successful J71 class, the J72 continued to be built, with minor changes over the next 53 years. In 1937 two of the class were fitted with vacuum braking to work as carriage shunters and more followed from 1947 onwards, eventually leading to 41 members of the class being so fitted. Several of the vacuum brake fitted locomotives were repainted in lined passenger liveries by both the LNER and British Railways for use as station pilots. Locomotives so painted were generally keep very clean by shed staff and crews. The 113 members of the class all continued their sterling work until the first locomotive was withdrawn in 1958. The final locomotive was withdrawn out of normal service in 1964 but two were transferred to Departmental Stock, one of these locomotives lasted in this roll until 1967. One member of the class, number 69023 is preserved.
Features:

Pickup from all six driving wheels
Coreless motor
Flywheel
Provision for Next-18 Decoder in cab
Access for decoder fitting via four screws
Direct springing to centre driving wheel bearings to ensure electrical contact
Diecast footplate
Diecast tanks· NER tapered buffers
LNER “Group Standard” buffers
NER wheel and handle smokebox door locking
Later, LNER two handle style smokebox door locking
Vacuum brake equipment for locomotives so fitted
Smokebox numberplate for B.R. period
Ross Pop safety valves
NER style “trumpet” safety valve cover
Diecast chassis – split frames for live bearing pickup
Blackened nickel plated driving wheels
