The Thornycroft Amazon, with its sturdy crane, was equally vital for lifting tasks, moving engines, and handling significant airframe components during recovery and repair operations. These vehicles were the backbone of RAF ground support, working tirelessly to maintain the operational status of Britain's fighter and bomber squadrons. Whether recovering crashed aircraft from rural areas, transporting newly assembled machines to active squadrons, or moving damaged airframes to Maintenance Units for rebuilding, these recovery teams played a crucial yet often overlooked role in sustaining the RAF's operational capabilities throughout the war and into the post-war era. This classic Airfix set encapsulates the essence of these dynamic airfield scenes, allowing modellers to recreate scenarios such as a dismantled Spitfire or a Vickers Wellington fuselage being transported for repair.

Airfix Vintage Classics: Vosper M.T.B (1:72)

Vosper M.T.B Despite having one of the strongest navies in the world, the Royal Navy knew they needed a fleet of high-speed fighting ships to challenge enemy warships and to take a heavy toll of enemy merchant vessels. Mainly relying on stealth, speed and manoeuvrability, the Vosper company had been designing such craft since the early 1930s, with the Vosper 73ft Motor Torpedo Boat being a later development of those earlier vessels. Powered by three Packard engines, the Vosper was capable of speeds over 40 knots and in this variant, featured four 18-inch deck-mounted torpedo tubes, an Oerlikon 20mm cannon and up to four Vickers machine guns. - Plastic Kit Requires Glue & Paint to Complete - 189 Pieces - 1 Scheme Options - Skill Level 3 - 1:72 Scale

Airfix Vintage Classics: RAF Rescue Launch (1:72)

RAF Rescue Launch During the Second World War, the danger of losing large numbers of aircrew forced to ditch in the seas around the British Isles was very real, resulting in the creation of the Royal Air Force Sea Rescue Service, operating under the motto ‘The sea shall not have them’. Using vessels designed by the British Powerboat Company and utilising racing boat technology, this service was all about speed, with the Type Two 63ft HSL ‘Whaleback’ being arguably their most distinctive craft. Powered by three 24ltr Napier Sea Lion engines, these boats must have sounded magnificent and it’s no wonder they were known as the ‘Spitfires of the sea’. - Plastic Kit Requires Glue & Paint to Complete - 155 Pieces - 2 Scheme Options - Skill Level 3 - 1:72 Scale

Airfix Vintage Classics: German E-Boat (1:72)

German E-Boat Restricted by the terms of the Treaty of Versailles, the German Kriegsmarine exploited a loophole by designing a fleet of fast, wooden-hulled attack craft they referred to as Schnellboots. Expertly designed, these vessels were perfected over time and by the outbreak of the Second World War, they had become a devastatingly effective part of Germany’s naval strength. Powered by three diesel engines and featuring a triple rudder arrangement, Germany’s E Boats were some of the fastest warships in the world. With their low profile, high manoeuvrability and torpedo armament, if they penetrated any Allied convoy, they could destroy several vessels and make their escape before coming under return fire. - Plastic Kit Requires Glue & Paint to Complete - 290 Pieces - 1 Scheme Options - Skill Level 3 - 1:72 Scale

Airfix Stug IV Sd.Kfz.167 (1:35)

Stug IV Sd.Kfz.167 Vehicle information and history: The Sd.Kfz.167 Sturmgeschütz IV was a development from an incredibly successful series of armoured mobile assault guns produced by the Germans during WWII, which were initially intended to provide fire support for infantry units coming across particularly stubborn areas of resistance during their advance, particularly those in fortified positions. The early short barrelled L/24 75 mm gun was later replaced with the longer L/43 and L/48 guns, which were devastatingly effective anti-tank weapons, which when combined with the low profile of these vehicles, made them a fearsome adversary for Allied tank commanders and could easily be concealed in ambush positions on the battlefield. Following the Allied bombing of the Stug III factory in November 1943, the serious production disruption this caused forced the Germans to adapt the casemate superstructure of the Stug onto the larger chassis of the Panzer IV tank, retaining the low profile anti-tank killing capabilities of its predecessor, but resulting in the re-classification of these new vehicles as the Sturmgeschütz IV. Quick and relatively cheap to make compared to the mighty German heavy tanks of the period, the Sturmgeschütz where arguably Germany's most effective armoured vehicles during the latter stages of the war and whilst production numbers of Panther and Tiger tanks steadily diminished as the war progressed, many more Sturmgeschütz vehicles were rolling off the production lines to make up the shortfall. Includes: - Detailed plastic kit - Body and turret detail - Track and wheel detailing - Waterslide transfers/decals - Kit requires glue and paint to complete (NOT included) - 1:35 Scale

Airfix Panzer III AUSF J (1:35)

Panzer III AUSF J Vehicle information and history: One of the most famous tanks of the Second World War, the Panzer III was actually only available in relatively small numbers at the time of the German invasion of Poland, with around 180 tanks supplementing the more numerous, faster and lighter Panzer I and II tanks. Despite the popular misconception that Germany began the war having placed huge investment in tank production, much of the early burden of mechanized Blitzkrieg was born by smaller, lighter tanks and captured vehicles pressed into Wehrmacht service. The Panzer III Ausf (model) J was a later production development of this famous tank and one which represented quite an advancement over earlier models. A slightly redesigned hull allowed for the addition of increased armour protection and a new gun mantlet facilitated the installation of the more powerful 50 mm KwK 38 L42 gun, although these modifications did take far too long in development. By the time this variant of Panzer III entered service with Panzer Divisions on the Eastern Front, they were struggling to match the heavily armed Soviet KV-1 and T-34 tanks they were facing, and in addition to this, the larger ammunition used by the new gun reduced the internal stowage capacity from 90 to 84 rounds. Although the Ausf. J was the most heavily produced variant of this famous tank, by 1943, the Panzer III was outclassed on the battlefield and not produced as a tank any more, although the main chassis was still used in the production of the excellent Sturmgeschütz III assault gun/tank destroyers. Includes: - Plastic kit - Body and gun turret detail - Track and wheel detail - Engine and grill detailing - Waterslide transfers/decals - Kit requires glue and paint to complete (NOT included) - 1:35 Scale
