Hornby HM7000: Power Bank Maxi

HM7000: Power Bank Maxi The R7416 Power Bank Maxi is our largest power bank and will keep locomotives with larger motors that require more pulling power, running over any potential dead spots. The space require inside a locomotive for this power bank is 22 x 12 x 10mm.  The Power Bank Maxi can be connected into the current range of HM7000 DCC Bluetooth decoders. A simple plug & play socket means there's no soldering required! Why use one? Your layout will occasionally suffer from dirty track or small electrical dead spots at points and crossings. The small loss of power can cause locomotives to stop, but with DCC Sound Decoders it can also cause the sounds to reset and restart. Avoid both issues by fitting a Power Bank. Perfect locomotive running and optimal control! (The Power Bank is not suitable for use without an HM7000 decoder, connecting it directly to other decoders or directly to the wiring of a model locomotive may cause damage to the Power Bank, your locomotive or your non-HM7000 decoder). Railroad: BR Mk3 TGS 44086 GWR British Rail introduced the production version of the Mk3 coach in 1975 with improved standards of comfort in response to competition from airlines and increased use of private motor cars. Designed and built by BREL, initially they were intended as locomotive-hauled stock, but with the development of the High Speed Train (HST), were soon adapted for use at speeds of up to 125mph (220km/h). The first version of the Mk3 coach had actually been built in 1972, with ten coaches produced for the prototype HST. Mk3 coaches continued to be built until 1988, but multiple units based on the Mk3 body shell were built until the early 1990s. The standard length of a Mk3 coach is 75ft (23m), which is ten feet longer than its predecessor, the Mk2, and is of monocoque construction with an all-welded mild steel stressed skin. GWR-liveried Mk3 coaches were formed into full-length HST sets and from 2019, in sets of four, to operate as GWR ‘Castle’ sets, which ran as such until May 2024. Railroad: GWR County 1013 'County of Dorset' BR Lined Green  The ‘County’ Class was the last of the GWR-designed two-cylinder 4-6-0s, with 30 built at Swindon between 1945 and 1947 to the design of Chief Mechanical Engineer, Frederick Hawksworth.  ‘County of Dorset’ entered service in February 1946 and spent most of its early years in the West Country at Bristol, Plymouth, Truro and Penzance, before transferring to Shrewsbury in December 1951. A new set of carriages was built that was identical to the ‘Coronation’ with four twin articulated coaches, though not the streamlined beavertail observation car, named the ‘West Riding Limited’. Carriages were in pairs, sharing a bogie between the two, thus reducing friction and improving ride quality. The train first ran on 27th September 1937 and achieved an average speed of 63.3mph (101.9km/h) between King’s Cross and Bradford. It was hauled by Gresley's ‘A4’ No. 4492 ‘Dominion of New Zealand’, which had emerged from Doncaster Works only three months earlier. Services were suspended for the duration of the Second World War, but were reinstated in 1949. A modern version of the train is still operated by the present-day LNER with a 6.30am departure from Bradford Forster Square station. The next vehicles in the rake are coaches ‘C’ and ‘D’ and these comprise of two identical first class open coaches which offered enhanced comfort and also had a lavatory at each end. Railroad: GNR N2 1606 GNR Lined Green Introduced to a design by Nigel Gresley for the Great Northern Railway in 1920, 1744 was built by the North British Locomotive Company in Glasgow in February 1921. At the Grouping two years later, it became LNER 4744 and then 9523 under the 1946 renumbering scheme, before finally becoming BR 69523 at nationalisation. Withdrawn from New England shed, Peterborough in September 1962, it was purchased by the Gresley Society Trust for preservation the following year. It has been based variously at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, the Great Central Railway and – most recently – the North Norfolk Railway, where, following a major overhaul, it is set to return to steam in time to celebrate ‘Gresley 150’ during 2026. - OO Scale

Allocated to King’s Cross ‘Top Shed’ and used on front-line express services such as the prestigious ‘Coronation’ between London and Edinburgh, ‘SNG’ was built with a single chimney and had stainless steel numbers and letters for the tender added at a general overhaul in January 1939.  After a period in wartime black, when the side-skirts were permanently removed, the locomotive returned to lined Garter blue in March 1947. Painted into BR’s express passenger blue in September 1950, as 60007, it set a post-war steam record speed of 112mph on 23 May 1959. This Collection marks 150 years since Sir Stanier's birth, and this locomotive includes a figure. With a shiny bold red livery and NEM tension lock couplings, this steam locomotive is a must-have for collectors. The ‘Princess Coronation’ Class, also known as the ‘Duchess’ Class, was an enlarged and improved version of William Stanier’s successful ‘Princess Royal’ Class ‘Pacific’. The first ten class members emerged from Crewe Works in a streamlined form during 1937 and five of these were put aside specifically for hauling the prestigious ‘Coronation Scot’ between London Euston and Glasgow Central. These were painted in Caledonian blue and had silver horizontal lining, which matched the carriages they pulled. No. 6220 set a new British steam speed record of 114mph in 1937, but this was beaten by the LNER’s ‘Mallard’ in 1938. Built with a single chimney, 6220 was the last of the original 15 to be fitted with a double blast pipe and chimney in 1944. Hornby L&MR Robert Stephenson’s 'Rocket'

L&MR Robert Stephenson’s 'Rocket'  For the first time, Stephenson's Rocket is presented as a solo locomotive, with a sleek yellow livery, fixed metal buffers and chain couplings. This highly detailed, diminuitive locomotive model is a must-have model for steam collectors, due to its historical importance and incredible model engineering.  This historically important locomotive was built in 1929 to participate in the Rainhill Trials, a competition set-up by the promoters of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway to find suitable motive power for its opening the following year. Built to the order of his father George (who was the L&MR’s principal engineer at the time), ‘Rocket’ was designed by Robert Stephenson and built at his Forth Street Works in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.  The design was the most advanced in its day and ‘Rocket’ won the Trials. One of the last of its class to be built, this locomotive was completed after nationalisation of Britain’s railways to Bulleid’s Southern ‘Merchant Navy’ design, complete with streamlined casing and chain-driven valve gear, entering service in December 1948. It didn’t receive its name until January 1951, during a ceremony at Southampton Docks. Like all 30 members of the class, ‘Clan Line’ was rebuilt, in its case, during 1959, and remained in service until withdrawal from Nine Elms, London in July 1947. It was subsequently saved privately for preservation and is a regular main line performer, once hauling the prestigious Belmond British Pullman. BR Rebuilt Merchant Navy 35028 'Clan line' BR Lined Green (Sound/Smoke Fitted) The BR Rebuilt Merchant Navy 'Clan Line' is back in OO model form. This newly tooled model locomotive has sprung metal buffers and NEM tension lock couplings and is a highly detailed replica of a popular steam engine. One of the last of its class to be built, this locomotive was completed after nationalisation of Britain’s railways to Bulleid’s Southern ‘Merchant Navy’ design, complete with streamlined casing and chain-driven valve gear, entering service in December 1948. It didn’t receive its name until January 1951, during a ceremony at Southampton Docks. Like all 30 members of the class, ‘Clan Line’ was rebuilt, in its case, during 1959, and remained in service until withdrawal from Nine Elms, London in July 1947. It was subsequently saved privately for preservation and is a regular main line performer, once hauling the prestigious Belmond British Pullman. LNER Azuma Class 801/2 801207 'Darlington' Train Pack (Rail200) The ‘Azuma’ Class 801/1 and 801/2 sets, were introduced on the East Coast Main Line between 2017 and 2020. They are a development of the Class 800 bi-mode trains in the Hitachi AT300 product range, produced at their Newton Aycliffe facility in the north-east, but unlike their bi-mode counterparts, the Class 801s are the purely electric version of the ‘Azuma’, although they are fitted with ‘emergency’ diesel engines to allow them to limp home in case of overhead power failure.  The Class 801/2s are the full nine-car length trains, whereas the 801/1s operate as shorter five-car sets, often used in pairs. The first of the full-length Class 801/2s ran in November 2019, entering service on front-line London King’s Cross-Edinburgh trains, allowing the bi-mode Class 800/1s to be cascaded onto King’s Cross-Aberdeen services, which in turn replaced the remaining InterCity 125 sets on that route. There are currently 30 Class 801/2 sets in operation. Five of which are named, including Set No. 801207, which on 14 January was unveiled by LNER to mark the 200th Anniversary year of the opening of the Stockton & Darlington Railway.  The power cars carry LNER, ‘Azuma’ and ‘Railway 200’ markings, with the legend ‘Darlington’ towards their front ends. After the HST Mk3 coach variant was introduced, further Mk3 coaches were introduced to the West Coast Mainline for use as part of locomotive hauled trains. Whilst Mk3 stock is standard for HST units, the standard locomotive hauled stock is Mk3a. Mk3a stock differs from Mk3 stock due to the inclusion of buffers as well as a different electrical system that uses motor generator units in each coach to power air conditioning and other ancillaries Mk3a stock was built until 1984, before 3B stock with improved seating and lighting was built from 1985 to 1988. The Mk3 coach is perhaps most iconic in its original production livery of the BR Grey and Blue. It is in this livery that the coach, as well as the matching Class 43 units would be introduced, before high speed rail services in the UK would be rebranded into the Intercity Executive livery.  Following the privatisation of the Railway network, Mk3 coaches would find themselves in many colourful liveries, some harking back to the original blue and grey livery of times gone by.

SR, Luggage Van, 2467 - Era 3 Includes: - Olive Green Livery - Fine detailed handrails - Window detailing - NEM Coupling pockets - OO Scale Vehicle information and history: The Southern Railway Ganward Bogie Luggage Vans were initially introduced in SR Olive Green livery, a very small number gained malachite. Under British Railways they were in crimson, with as few as six painted BR Green. All were withdrawn during 1959 and 1960 with twelve lasting to 1961 for pigeon traffic. A few entered departmental use and two have been preserved. Number S2464S was painted in Pullman car livery in July 1962 and stored in readiness to be used as Sir Winston Churchill's funeral hearse on 30th January 1965. In total 120 of these bogie luggage vans were built between 1930 and 1931 utilising ex LSWR underframes and bogies surplus from the bogie block set coach bodies having been converted to electric stock. This model continues our affection for this particular van by presenting an alternate livery, another choice that may appeal to the collector drawn to a new appearence of this enduringly popular invention.

Since 1975 these powerful Bo-Bo locomotives have moved passengers across the country for business and for leisure, most ironically in their various BR guises. The Class 43 persists to this day as a stalwart of the rails under various operators including the mainline serving GWR, mainline maintaining Network Rail and some private operators such as Locomotive Services Limited on their Blue Pullman services.  This train pack, designed to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II depicts the Class 43 as they have never been seen before, in a livery questioning exactly how the legendary LNER would celebrate this special occasion if they were still operating, and nationalisation had never occurred. It would be nice to think that if the big four were never nationalised that we would still be able to see steam regularly on the mainline however this view is shrouded in nostalgia and ignores the operational benefits that diesel locomotives bring. If the LNER operated continuously into the modern era, this may be how they would mark this special occasion. The power cars in this set, while adorned with numbers that have been assigned to full size units, have had numbers chosen to celebrate prominent years of the queen’s reign. 43052 has been chosen as part of the numbering pattern for the full size examples and 52 for the year of the coronation, and 43022 follows the same pattern but for this very special year of Her Majesties reign.

Mk4 Driving Van Trailer (DVT) - GNER Livery Built at Metro-Cammell's Washwood Heath factory, 314 Mk4 coaches were produced between 1989 and 1992. They were built specifically for use on the newly electrified East Coast Main Line, along with hopes that a second order for the West Coast Main Line would be placed at a later date, although this second order never transpired. Mk4 coaches featured many improvements over the Mk3s such as push-button operated plug-type doors, fully sealed gangways and a designed top speed of 140mph. Much of the Mk4 design was based upon the Advanced Passenger Train. In particular, Mk4 coaches feature sides profiled to allow a tilt of up to 6° with newly fitted tilting bogies. Mk4s entered service in 1989 and helped drive a significant increase in passenger traffic. With privatisation in 1996, all Mk4 coaches were sold to Evershot Rail Group who have since leased them out to the holder of the InterCity East Coast Franchise. The franchise was initially awarded to Great North Eastern Railway (GNER) and has since been operated by National Express East Coast, East Coast, Virgin Trains East Coast and London North Eastern Railway (LNER) owned by the Department for Transport. Between October 2003 and November 2005 Bombardier Transportation, under contract from GNER, commenced refurbishment of the Mk4 stock, fitting new seating arrangements and introduced onboard Wi-Fi, a first for British rail services. This refurbishment programme was called 'Project Mallard' named after the Mallard steam locomotive, built in the 1930s by the London & North Eastern Railway and holder of the world speed record for steam locomotives. Built by Metro-Cammell for inclusion in the InterCity 225 sets, 32 Mk4 Driving Van Trailers (DVTs) were built with the bodyshell manufactured under sub-contract by Breda in Italy. Whilst they were designed to operate with Class 91 locomotives as part of the InterCity 225 set, Mk4 DVTs have also operated with Class 90 and Class 89 locomotives. Although Mk4 DVTs have spent most of their lives on the ECML, they are now being cascaded down to other franchises including Transport for Wales due to the introduction of the Class 800 and Class 801 IEPs.
