GCR 9J 295 GCR Lined Black (Sound Fitted) The Great Central Railway was a big mover of goods and amongst the locomotives it built for this purpose were the 9J 0-6-0s. Nicknamed ‘Pom Poms’ because their exhaust noise sounded very similar to the guns of the same name, these freight workhorses are replicated in OO scale by Bachmann Branchline. The 9Js carried all the hallmarks of a locomotive designed by the GCR’s Chief Mechanical Engineer John G. Robinson and these features are replicated on the Branchline model using a precision moulded boiler, smokebox and firebox mounted on a diecast metal running plate. The distinctive Robinson cab is another high-fidelity moulding, within which boiler backhead is replicated using an array of separately fitted pipework, controls and dials, all of which are enhanced further with bespoke decoration. The GCR tender has a distinctive look too with its high capacity and flared top edges, and again these trademark features are captured in miniature using high-fidelity mouldings. Coupling to the locomotive via a drawbar that is adjustable to suit individual layout conditions, electrical connections are integrated into it and a hinged fallplate is also fitted to the tender. Across the model separate components are added, from the metal handrails and sprung metal buffers, to the lamp irons at the front and rear, to complete the look of this freight machine. The locomotive’s diecast chassis is enhanced with brake blocks, brake rigging and sandboxes with separate wire sandpipes, whilst between the frames a representation of the inside motion is present. The black colour scheme with its ornate three-colour lining is reproduced to exquisite effect, with a rich and consistent finish throughout. The Great Central lettering and company crest on the tender is the icing on the cake, comprising no fewer than six separate colours and replicated using precision printing techniques for full authenticity. The Branchline 9J runs as well as it looks thanks to a power full three pole motor and diecast metal gearbox. The locomotive driving wheels run in separate metal bearings and all six driving wheels are equipped with electrical pickups, tender pickups are included too. The tender houses a 21 Pin decoder socket and pre-fitted speaker, making it easy to upgrade this model to DCC or DCC sound. BR Rebuilt Merchant Navy 35028 'Clan line' BR Lined Green (Sound/Smoke Fitted) The BR Rebuilt Merchant Navy 'Clan Line' is back in OO model form. This newly tooled model locomotive has sprung metal buffers and NEM tension lock couplings and is a highly detailed replica of a popular steam engine. One of the last of its class to be built, this locomotive was completed after nationalisation of Britain’s railways to Bulleid’s Southern ‘Merchant Navy’ design, complete with streamlined casing and chain-driven valve gear, entering service in December 1948. It didn’t receive its name until January 1951, during a ceremony at Southampton Docks. Like all 30 members of the class, ‘Clan Line’ was rebuilt, in its case, during 1959, and remained in service until withdrawal from Nine Elms, London in July 1947. It was subsequently saved privately for preservation and is a regular main line performer, once hauling the prestigious Belmond British Pullman. GWR Saint Class 2920 'Saint David' BR Lined Black (Early) Of the 77 Saint Class members built by GWR between 1902 and 1913, 2920 ‘Saint David’ was one of the 47 that survived beyond nationalisation of Britain’s railways in 1948. Part of the third batch of 20 to be built in 1907, the locomotive was new to Cardiff Canton shed. It underwent several changes during its career, including the fitting of a superheated boiler in 1909 and outside steam pipes in December 1932. This model is presented in BR livery, the condition in which it operated through to its withdrawal in October 1953, by which point it was one of the last four still in service. This model was developed with the helpful guidance from the Didcot Railway Center who kindly gave us access to their archive of drawings and access to the Lady of Legend locomotive. The Saint class model features a powerful 5 pole skew wound motor, flickering firebox and is designed to be fully compatible with the HM7000 21-Pin decoder for full DCC and sound control. LSWR Adams T3 560 SR Lined Maunsell Green The first LSWR T3 Class locomotive was built in 1892 and 125 years later, the T3 was thrown into the spotlight when the National Railway Museum donated the sole preserved example, No. 563, to the Swanage Railway Trust. Ever since this controversial move there has been a desire to see a OO scale model of this Victorian masterpiece, and now, we are delighted to fulfil those wishes with this brand-new model developed for Bachmann’s EFE Rail range. Employing a large number of diecast metal components to provide the optimal weight distribution needed for this 4-4-0 locomotive to perform at its best, the EFE Rail T3 is powered by a five pole motor and flywheel which is geared to the rear driving axle. DCC provision comes in the form of a Next18 decoder socket mounted in the tender, where a speaker is also fitted, meanwhile within the cab of the model a firebox lighting system has been installed which operates on both analogue and DCC. An innovative loco-to-tender coupling design provides both integral electrical connections and a close coupling feature, whilst at either end of the model NEM coupling pockets are fitted and sprung metal buffers are mounted on each bufferbeam. Each model sports an array of locomotive- and era-specific detailing as appropriate, all of which is highlighted by the ornate livery application. With an impressive level of detail and a high performance mechanism, the Branchline G2 is the complete package and now for the first time, this model is available with the option of SOUND FITTED (see item No. 31-482SF). The model employs a diecast running plate, along with further metal components to provide an impressive weight ensuring the model’s strength and power match its prototype’s. Meanwhile, those components produced in plastic are precision moulded, with details such as rivets and boiler bands crisply reproduced. Separate parts are then added to enhance the authenticity of the model further, from the metal handrails to the whistle and safety valves, each of which are turned brass. LNWR G2 9446 LMS Black (Sound Fitted) The London & North Western Railway (LNWR) was known as the Premier Line and one of its premier freight locomotives, in terms of power and ability at least, was the G2 Class, and their later equivalents, the G2As. The Bachmann Branchline model brings the G2 to OO Scale with a high fidelity rendition of the early-twentieth century powerhouse and comes complete with SOUND FITTED. This model of No. 9446 forms part of our new Railway Celebrations range and depicts the locomotive that took part in the 100th Anniversary celebrations of the opening of the Stockton & Darlington Railway. In 1925, to mark the centenary, a celebration of railways featuring locomotives from the past century was put on by the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER). Opened by the Duke and Duchess of York – later King Geroge VI and Queen Elizabeth – a procession of locomotives took place over some six miles of line between Stockton and Darlington, passing the royal grandstand and delighting the hundreds of thousands of onlookers who turned out to witness the celebrations. The parade of 53 locomotives intended to showcase the evolution of the steam locomotive, from the early examples to modern designs. The first London & North Western Railway (LNWR) 0-8-0 locomotives were built in 1893, however the G2 was somewhat younger, being built between 1921 and 1922 and No. 9446 was one of 60 locomotives built to this design at Crewe Works. Outshopped as LNWR No. 1012, the locomotive was the first G2 to receive London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) numbering, becoming No. 9446 which was applied in June 1925, along with LMS livery with a high gloss finish in preparation for its participation in the centenary celebrations. No. 9446 would become BR No. 49446 upon Nationalisation in 1948 and the locomotive remained in traffic until April 1964 when it was withdrawn and subsequently scrapped. Hunslet Austerity VF5300 NCB North East 59 This Austerity was another wartime product, this time from the Vulcan foundry, Newton-le-Willows. It was completed in 1945 and allocated the WD number 75310. Following war dept service, the locomotive was purchased by the NCB and allocated to number 6 area, North West Durham. Particular to this area is the cut back cabs on all locomotives for working the restricted clearance of the tunnel on the entrance to Lambton coal drops at the port of Sunderland. Another smaller feature on this locomotive was the relocation of the injectors to above the running plate ahead of the cab. GWR 94XX Pannier Tank 9463 BR Black (Late Crest) The 94xx Pannier Tank returns to the Bachmann Branchline range and with its unconventional appearance – with large water tanks and extended smokebox – this model will bring a real presence to any model railway. A quintessential part of the GWR for many decades, the Pannier Tank design was developed and refined before the 94xx, the final design of GWR tank engine, was produced. No. 9466, as depicted by this model, one of only two preserved examples, found fame after returning to steam in the mid-1980s and operated on the mainline hauling ‘Steam on the Met’ rail tours. There are handrails aplenty – all separately fitted of course – whilst the metal lamp brackets, separate smokebox door dart and whilst with guard and supply pipes all catch the eye. Sprung buffers are fitted at the front and rear along with a copper cap to the chimney. Look inside the cab and a full complement of controls and dials is present, all decorated accordingly, which is only added to by the firebox lighting system which adds a further dimension of realism to every model. Technically the 94xx shines as well, with a Next18 DCC decoder socket paired with an integrated speaker making SOUND FITTED models an option if you wish to enjoy sound effects when operating your model railway. These will be the most accurate The Titfield Thunderbolt models ever produced and are being developed with full co-operation of STUDIOCANAL, which owns the rights to this seminal railway film. The Titfield Thunderbolt tells the story of group of villagers determined to save their branch line after British Railways announces its closure. When a rival bus company sabotages the newly acquired train prior to an official inspection, the villagers resurrect the line’s first locomotive, Thunderbolt, and, against great odds, obtain permission to keep their line open. The story was inspired by the group of enthusiasts, led by Tom Rolt, who took over the 2ft 3in gauge Talyllyn Railway in 1951 and thus kick-started the railway preservation movement. The film was the first of Ealing Studios’ famous ‘Ealing comedies’ to be filmed in colour and it was released in March 1953.
