Wright's Lock-Up – Laser-cut kit Wright's Lockup is a small but perfectly formed, versatile OO gauge / 1:76 scale lockup / stores building suitable for industrial, town or harbourside scenes. Based on a real life protoype in Penzance, Cornwall, the building features heavily weathered Flemish Bond brickwork with wooden doors, sash windows, slate roof & downspouts. The side wall also features an optional ghost sign for Wright's Electrical, Hot Water & Sanitary Engineers which would have been the local plumbers & electricians back in the good old days. Also included is an alternative set of buff stone wraps which can be used to give the building a more rural feel.  The kit is supplied with laser-cut parts for ease of assembly and comes with fully weathered paper wraps and roof slates, with no additional painting or weathering required on the main components for a "Realistically Better" finish straight from the pack. The window & doors are supplied laser-cut from our eco-friendly laserboard and are packed with detail including engraved planks, hinges and locks. These will require painting with acrylic paints prior to assembly or colouring with suitable markers. We used a Plastikote Stone color for our test build which we then coated lightly with ground pastels to weather them down for a little less prestine finish. The building consists of two floors and features interior wall wraps for both the brick and stone versions, with white wash & flaking paint for added realism. Ceiling and floor details are also included for the upper floor. There's also plenty of scope for customisation too... with the slates being applied in individual strips it's easy to build it in either pristine or derelict condition (or anywhere in between). And with care, you can also pose the doors open or closed. And the base is wrapped in weathered concrete paper. All textures are supplied pre-weathered, only the framework will need painting & weathering. We used a dark brown acrylic spray then brushed it over with rust coloured weathering powder while the paint was still a little tacky. Soot stained chimneys and separately applied drainpipes complete the realistically better finish. There's even the prototypical uneven roofline, just like you see on many older buildings constructed with detailed roof trusses for authenticity. The roof slates are cut to length and pre-weathered with lots of lichen and staining. Simply glue them on to the marked trusses to create a super-realistic roof. The central larger carriage store is separated from the stables & accommodation via internal walls. These sections also feature a floor between the ground floor and the upper floor, allowing you to go to town with interior detailing on these sections. No interior wraps are supplied for these sections. We've also included an optional solid wooden door which you can use in place of the stable door, making it more suitable for use as an industrial workshop with store room and office. Or fisherman's cottage with workshop/boat store and net loft. The kit is straightforward to assemble with paper texture wraps over a series of MDF base layers which leave no unsightly joints visible when construction is complete. As with many of our kits, there are some small, delicate parts in the kit, so tweezers are definitely recommended.  You will need to paint the doors, windows, guttering and downpipes etc as these are supplied unpainted. Artists acrylic paints or "rattle can" spray paints are recommended prior to assembly. Some of the larger unpainted parts can be easily coloured with a simple permanent marker. 1960's Domestic Garage – Laser-cut kit  A versatile 1960's style garage for detailing street scenes on your model railway layouts and diecast dioramas. The design is typical of many garages of this type that can still be seen all over the British Isles in various states of repair. Supplied with a choice of red brick & pebbledashed walls. Both finishes feature plenty of weathering for a worn & well-used finish. The roof features heavily weathered cement board/asbestos style corrugated roof with lots of moss, lichen and general weathering, plus a nicely rusted ridge strip. The kit is supplied with laser-cut parts for ease of assembly with no additional painting or weathering required for a "Realistically Better" finish straight from the pack apart from the windows, doors & laserboard parts, which can be quickly and easily painted & weathered with acrylic paints. The garage also features white painted red brick interior wall finishes with flaking paint and other dirt & grime. For a little extra detail we've also included two car tyres and a ladder which can be used to add extra interest to the scene. Doors & window frames require painting before the kit is assembled which can be done with solvent or acrylic based paints. We used a a matt white acrylic primer for our doors and windowframes which we then dry-brushed with burnt umber, buff & slate grey artists acrylics to create a weathered wood look.
