HYA Bogie Hopper Wagon GBRf Silver 'Coal' 371030
The HYA Bogie Hopper Wagons were introduced from 2007 to transport coal to the UK’s coal-fired powers station. In later years, as the country transitioned away from burning coal the wagons were made redundant and found a new use moving biomass for which they were recoded IIA.
The imposing wagons are reproduced faithfully in N scale using an injection moulded bodyshell, complete with interior partitions within the hopper, and hopper doors suspended from the underframe. Further details are added in the form of handwheels, lamp irons, buffers and separate pipe runs, and metal weights are fitted above each bogie for smooth and assured running. Those bogies are finely-moulded replicas of the prototype, fitted with metal wheelsets and with standard N scale couplings fitted into the NEM coupling pockets. The real wagons had a bare metal finish which is replicated on the Graham Farish model along with GBRf branding and the word ‘coal’ at one end. The outline of the former FirstGroup logos can also be seen, harking back to the time when the GBRf was owned by the group and operated as First GBRf.

IIA Bogie Hopper Wagon GBRf (VTG) Silver 37706955220-8
The IIA Bogie Hopper Wagons started life as HYA Coal Hoppers, introduced from 2007 to deliver the fuel needed to run coal-fired power stations. However, as the UK transitioned away from using coal as the fuel for its power stations, the wagons became redundant and were re-employed on biomass trains, being recoded as IIAs in the process.
Owned by VTG Rail but operated by GBRf, the real wagons had a bare metal finish which is replicated on the Graham Farish model along with GBRf and VTG branding. The outline of the former FirstGroup logos can also be seen, harking back to the time when the GBRf was owned by the group and operated as First GBRf.

BR Mk1 POS Royal Mail Travelling Post Office Red 80318
This Graham Farish model of a POS coach carries all the hallmarks of this iconic design, the distinctive profile of the Mk1 coach is captured to a tee from the bodysides to the roof where finely moulded ventilators can be found. On the bodysides the handles and grab handles surrounding each door are moulded precisely, whilst the handrails aside each loading door are separate metal wire fittings. At either end, the corridor gangway is complete with lamp irons on either side and within, the corridor doors are modelled with the two small windows that is flush glazed – in the same way all of the windows on the model are. Metal grab handles are added to each end individually and metal toilet filler pipes extend to the roof. Footboards are included on the solebars below each door whilst the underframe sports a full complement of equipment, with the truss rod frames modelled in all their glory and flanked by battery boxes, vacuum cylinders and other auxiliary equipment.
The bogies are fitted with metal wheelsets, whilst the standard N scale coupling is attached via a NEM coupling pocket to the close coupling mechanism that is fitted to the carriage floor, operating in tandem with the bogie. The icing on the cake is the livery application, using authentic colours, logos and fonts to give every model an exquisite appearance.

8 Plank Wagon End Door 'Modern Transport Liverpool' Grey 1206
Britain’s Railways were developed primarily to move freight and by the early twentieth century, hundreds of independent companies were operating their own wagons to transport their goods around the UK by rail. Fleet sizes ranged from small concerns with a single wagon to large enterprises whose wagon count could run into the hundreds. The majority of wagons in private ownership were wooden bodied open wagons and by far the most common commodity that they carried was coal, although other materials, including coke, minerals and aggregates might also be transported depending on the nature of business conducted by the wagon’s owner.
Various types of 8 Plank Wagon were built, and this Graham Farish model depicts one with fixed ends, unloading would therefore be via the side doors and bottom discharge doors, which on the model are neatly engraved into the wagon’s bodyshell which is moulded with crisp plank lines and ironwork detailing. Below the solebar the W irons, axleboxes and springs are all reproduced to great effect, with separate brakes and brake leavers and metal door stops completing the look. The model runs on spoked wheels which are of metal construction whilst metal buffers adorn the bufferbeams. Authentic colours and typefaces are employed during the livery application prototype, completing this high-fidelity model.

5 Plank China Clay Wagon GWR Grey '94054'
China Clay Wagons were synonymous with Cornwall where the largest deposit of Kaolin, known more commonly as china clay, had first been discovered in 1746 by William Cookworthy. The resulting industry made Cornwall the pre-eminent global source of china clay and as railways were established, they were used to transport the material both locally and further afield, to destinations where the material was required, like the Staffordshire potteries.
The GWR, and subsequently BR, built open wagons like the one depicted by this Graham Farish model specifically for china clay traffic. With a 9ft wheelbase and 12T capacity, the wooden planked body sat on top of a metal underframe and our model reflects this, with fine detailing engraved and moulded onto the body. The chassis meanwhile incorporates brake gear and sports tie-bars between the axleboxes, along with metal door bangers and turned metal buffers. Spoked metal wheels and NEM coupling pockets complete the model, which is finished in a beautiful and authentic rendition of the GWR Grey livery.

5 Plank China Clay Triple Pack BR Bauxite (Early) with Flat Canopy
This triple-pack of wagons is finished in BR Bauxite livery, and each model comes complete with spoked metal wheels and NEM coupling pockets. The three models are also supplied with tarpaulin covers, as used on the real wagons to protect the valuable china clay cargo from the elements.

3 Plank Wagon 'London Transport' Grey 'B.W.260'
Britain’s railways were developed primarily to move freight and over time, a wide range of wagons were developed to suit the varied cargo that the railway companies had been contracted to transport. Among them were short wheelbase, 3 plank open wagons which had hinged sides allowing them to be lowered, aiding the loading and unloading of cargo. The goods carried by such wagons was varied and could range from loose loads like minerals and aggregate to crates, barrels and even single pieces of machinery or equipment. Basically, anything that could tolerate being exposed to the elements could be carried, although loads could also be sheeted if necessary to offer some protection from weather and general railway dirt.
The 3 Plank Wagon depicted by this Graham Farish model is created using an injection moulded wagon body, incorporating hinges along each edge and with securing chains represented at each corner. The wooden deck of the wagon is depicted with crisp engraving to define the separate wooden planks, and this level of detail extends to the wagon’s planked sides, both on the inner and outer faces. Below the solebar the W irons, axleboxes and springs are all reproduced to great effect, complete with separate brakes and brake levers. The model runs on spoked wheels which are of metal construction whilst metal buffers adorn the bufferbeams. Authentic colours and typefaces are employed during the livery application process, completing this high-fidelity model.

JGA Bogie Hopper Buxton Lime Industries 'BLI19215'
The JGA Bogie Hoppers were built in Slovakia in the mid-1990s for Buxton Lime Industries and Tilcon, primarily working from Tunstead Quarry, operated by Buxton Lime Industries, near Buxton on the edge of the Peak District. Consisting of a large hopper with three pairs of bottom discharge doors, the wagons were used to transport lime products from the quarry for distribution around the UK.
Reproduced in N Scale by Graham Farish, the JGA model features a precision moulded bodyshell which captures the wagon’s distinctive sloping ends with their ribbed constructed. Below the solebar, the three sets of discharge doors are added separately, meanwhile a metal weight is concealed above each bogie to ensure smooth running. The bogies themselves are fitted with metal wheels and axles whilst the integrated NEM coupling pockets allow alternative couplings to be fitted with ease. The eye catching white and blue livery faithfully adorns the model, complete with the various markings and operating instructions that are found on the real wagons.

The LMS built coaches to three distinct patterns, known commonly as Period 1, 2 and 3 coaches. The Period 3 coaches were the final development, and the first examples were built in 1933, a year after Sir William Stanier became Chief Mechanical Engineer of the LMS and so the Period 3 coaches are often referred to as ‘Stanier Coaches’. Whilst passenger vehicles were mostly 57ft in length, several specialist types including catering vehicles, Inspection Saloons and Full Brakes were built to a length of 50ft. The vehicles were constructed with wooden frames skinned in steel and with curved windows, providing a modern contrast to earlier types with their wooden bodies and squarer windows. The Full Brakes were used to carry luggage, parcels and other general merchandise and could be found marshalled as part of both passenger and parcel trains, and with their integral guard’s compartment the guard could often be found travelling here too. Many Full Brakes remained in traffic well into the British Railways era and after the demise of steam too, with some examples ending up in departmental or engineer’s use following their withdrawal from revenue earning service.
The Graham Farish model captures the look of Stanier’s design to a tee, with a high fidelity bodyshell featuring expertly moulded handrails, door handles, hinges and even door stops, all replicated crisply on the bodysides. At either end, the LMS pattern gangways are added, whilst end steps are fitted alongside and a metal handrail is included adjacent to them and metal buffers are fitted below. Each window is flush glazed and inside, the guard’s compartment is modelled along with the hand brake wheel. Footboards are fitted along the solebar, below which vacuum brake equipment is present along with the battery boxes, dynamo and other auxiliary gear. The bogies are fitted with metal wheelsets, whilst the standard N scale coupling is attached via a NEM coupling pocket to the close coupling mechanism that is fitted to the carriage floor, which operates in tandem with the bogie. Like any Graham Farish model, this high level of detail is brought to life through the livery application, using authentic colours, logos and fonts making every model a masterpiece in miniature.

British Rail’s second generation of standard coach was designated the Mk2, following on from the highly successful Mk1 series. Unlike the Mk1s however, the Mk2s evolved through different build batches, and such were the changes that a letter suffix was attributed to identify each of the different variants. Fewer coach types were built, with construction concentrating on vehicles offering standard accommodation of both first- and second-class, plus coaches that made provision for the Guard and train crew. Specialist vehicles such as catering and sleeping cars were not included, instead BR Mk1 and earlier types continued to fulfil these requirements until Mk3s with similar facilities arrived in the late-1970s to replace them. Like the Mk1s, the Mk2s were of steel construction, but featured more of a monocoque design than the Mk1, which added to their safety and integrity in the event of a collision.
The first Mk2s were built in 1964 and by 1967, the Mk2A had arrived. The Mk2 family evolved over the years until the final iteration, the Mk2F, entered traffic in 1973, with the last examples built in 1975 paving the way for the Mk3s.
When it comes to the Graham Farish model, like its real-life counterpart the Mk2A shares many of the highlights and features of the acclaimed Graham Farish Mk1 Coaches. The distinctive Mk2 shape gives the bodyshell and roof an unmistakable appearance and this is captured to a tee, complete with ventilators moulded expertly onto the profiled roof. Each end features separately fitted metal handrails, along with the corridor gangway and the two-part corridor doors within. On the bodysides each door is complete with hinges, handles and even door bumper details, whilst the flush glazing includes the sliding ventilators – a telltale sign that this is an early series Mk2. Take a look below the solebar and you will find a full complement of underframe equipment – depicting the components of the braking, electrical and auxiliary systems.
The B4 bogies are fitted with metal wheelsets, whilst the standard N scale coupling is attached via a NEM coupling pocket to the close coupling mechanism that is fitted to the carriage floor, which operates in tandem with the bogie. Inside each model is an interior featuring the prototypical layout of tables and chairs, whilst the icing on the cake is the livery application, using authentic colours, logos and fonts to give every model an exquisite appearance.

GWR Hawksworth Full Brake BR Departmental Blue & Grey DW150354
These N scale models of the GWR Hawksworth Coaches are one of the many jewels in the Graham Farish Rolling Stock fleet. Essential for any Western Region modeller, every coach is a faithful replica of the prototype and there are four vehicle types to choose from, allowing authentic trains to be created with ease. These include the Brake Third Corridor, Third Corridor and Composite Corridor, along with the Full Brake vehicle, whilst the Auto-Trailers designed by Hawksworth are also available in model form from Graham Farish.
Each model sports finely moulded details such as handrails, grab handles and roof vents, and separate metal pipework is added to represent toilet fillers (where applicable) whilst the gangway connections and suspension arms are fitted separately at each end. Below the solebar the vacuum and steam heat pipework is present, along with battery boxes, dynamo and brake equipment – all fitted around the truss rod frames. The bogies are fitted with metal wheelsets, whilst the standard N scale coupling is attached via a NEM coupling pocket to the close coupling mechanism that is fitted to the carriage floor, which operates in tandem with the bogie. Inside each model is an interior featuring the prototypical layout of compartments and seating, whilst the icing on the cake is the livery application, using authentic colours, logos and fonts making every model a masterpiece in miniature.

GWR Hawksworth Full Brake BR Maroon W318W

BR HEA Hopper Wagon BR Bauxite '361728'
The HEA Hopper Wagons were introduced following the success of the HAA Coal Hoppers which were first used in the mid-1960s to deliver coal to power stations as part of the then-new Merry-Go-Round (MGR) trains. The first wagons were built in the mid-1970s as HBAs, but as construction progressed, the design was changed, and the code HEA was used for later batches. The HBAs were subsequently modified to match the HEAs and recoded, giving a total fleet of almost 2,000 HEAs.
The wagons replaced ageing wooden- and steel-bodied wagons, delivering household coal to local terminals and reaching all corners of the UK. The HEAs worked in both mixed freight and block train formations.
With the demand for household coal in decline, HEAs were used to transport other minerals, like rock salt, and many were rebuilt or recoded, for example some were used as Nuclear Barrier Wagons (RNAs) with their hoppers removed, or box wagons (MEAs) with new box bodies to carry a variety of bulk loads.

Vehicle information and history:
The Mk2Fs were the final evolution of the Mk2 family, and these coaches featured full air conditioning, interior panelling made of plastic, a new style of seating and tinted windows. Initially only three types were built, Tourist Second Opens, First Opens and Brake Second Opens, but some First Opens were later converted into Restaurant First Buffets, whilst several Brake Second Opens were fitted with a driving cab at one end, becoming Driving Brake Second Opens for push-pull use.
When it comes to the Graham Farish model, it’s fair to say that this miniature Mk2F ticks all the boxes. The Distinctive Mk2 shape is captured to a tee whilst the few details that feature on the roof of the prototype, namely the ventilators at each end and the toilet roof panel, are expertly moulded. Each end features separately fitted metal handrails and the end footsteps at each corner are also included. On the bodysides each door is complete with hinges, handles and even door bumper details, whilst the flush, tinted glazing gives these coaches their characteristic streamlined appearance. Take a look below the solebar and you will find a full complement of equipment – all necessary for the braking, electrical and air-conditioning systems.
The B4 bogies are fitted with metal wheelsets, whilst the standard N scale coupling attach via a NEM coupling pocket providing interchangeability with other coupling systems. Inside each model is an interior featuring the prototypical layout of tables and chairs, and brake vehicles even contain the luggage compartment caging, whilst the icing on the cake is the livery application, using authentic colours, logos and fonts to give every model an exquisite appearance.

Vehicle information and history:

LNER Thompson Composite Corridor LNER Teak Effect LNER No. 145
The Graham Farish models of the LNER Thompson Coaches entered traffic to critical acclaim only a few years ago, and these models now return to the range in the stunning LNER Teak Effect livery. Essential for any Eastern Region modeller, every coach is a faithful replica of the prototype, with two vehicle lengths modelled to accurately depict the longer First Corridor, Third Corridor, Brake Third Corridor and Full Brake vehicles, or the shorter Composite Corridors.
With the body sporting finely moulded details such as handrails, grab handles and roof vents, below the solebar the vacuum and steam heat pipework is present along with battery boxes, dynamo and brake equipment all fitted between the truss rod frames. The bogies are fitted with metal wheelsets, whilst the standard N scale coupling is attached via a NEM coupling pocket to the close coupling mechanism that is fitted to the carriage floor, which operates in tandem with the bogie. Inside each model is an interior featuring the prototypical layout of tables and chairs, whilst the icing on the cake is the livery application, using authentic colours, logos and fonts making every model a masterpiece in miniature.
