Hornby Railroad: BR Class 37 37501 'Teesside Steelmaster'(Sound Fitted)

Railroad: BR Class 37 37501 'Teesside Steelmaster' ROG British Steel Blue (Sound Fitted) Built by English Electric at its Vulcan Foundry in Lancashire, the locomotive this RailRoad model is based on started life in January 1961 as D6705, going new to Stratford depot in London.  After becoming 37005 under TOPS, it was rebuilt as a Class 37/5 in April 1985, which included replacing its EE generator with a new Brush unit, and a complete re-wire, with a consequent renumbering to 37501. It was then painted into its distinctive British Steel pale blue colour scheme, gaining Thornaby Kingfisher motif and British Steel logos. It was then named ‘Teesside Steelmaster’ in 1987.  It was later modified for the proposed Channel Tunnel sleeper ‘Nightstar’ project (which was later aborted) to become a 37/6 in February 1995 and renumbered to 37601. It is currently one of six Class 37s leased by Rail Operations Group from Europhoenix for contracted movement of passenger stock, including EMUs. It was returned to its 1987 guise during a repaint in 2025.  This RailRoad model locomotive is a durable design, perfect for model railway beginners, younger enthusiasts, or anyone who enjoys running their trains daily. Railroad: BR Class 08 08256 BR Blue (Sound Fitted) A total of 996 of the diesel electric shunters were built at various BR works between 1952 and 1962. As the standard BR general-purpose diesel shunter, the type became a common sight at major stations and freight yards across the country.  The locomotive this example is based on started life as 13326 in November 1956, having been completed at Darlington, and was new to New England, Peterborough. It later served at Sheffield Darnall, Tinsley, Finsbury Park, Hitchin, Startford and finally, from May 1968 at Colchester, from where it was withdrawn in February 1984. It was cut-up at Doncaster Works by January the following year.  Our RailRoad range is more durable than our standard range, making it perfect for beginners, children, and the most enthusiastic of model railway runners. LNER A4 4468 'Mallard' LNER Garter Blue (Sound/Smoke Fitted) One of the most famous of all steam locomotives, ‘Mallard’ still holds the world speed record for steam. In July 1938, it reached 126mph on Stoke Bank. Entering service in March of that year in LNER Garter blue, it had full side valances and red wheels, as depicted by our highly detailed model. It was renumbered 22 in 1946, by which time it carried wartime plain black. When it was withdrawn from King’s Cross in April 1963, it was in lined BR green and numbered 60022. The locomotive is preserved in its original livery at the National Railway Museum in York. 'Mallard' has always been one of our most popular models. In 2026, we have given the A4 a tooling update and the model now includes the new Hornby steam generator technology, working headlights and tender lights. Railroad: Class 37 37093 Police BR 125 Advert (Sound Fitted) Recognised for its memorable role in a television advert – flagging down a speeding HST power car, this highly detailed model of Class 37 No. 37093 comes presented in its unique ‘Police’ promotional livery. Complete with a roof-mounted working blue light and DCC sound-fitted with Class 37 and effects, functions, and an authentic police siren straight out of the box. Equipped with NEM tension lock couplings and plastic buffers, this Co-Co diesel is built to perform on second radius curves or greater. History: Built at English Electric’s Robert Stephenson & Hawthorns works, this locomotive entered BR service as D6793 in 1963, allocated to Gateshead. Re-numbered 37093 in February 1974, it was painted into ‘Police’ livery, complete with blue light, for a BR television advertising campaign in July 1985, before returning to a more traditional livery at Stratford in August. The Class 08 350hp diesel electric shunter was the standard BR general-purpose shunting locomotive with 996 examples built between 1952 and 1962. With the decline in the handling of individual goods wagons and the need to assemble trains, by 2000 there were just 100 left in service, with large numbers either scrapped, exported or sold into industrial use. The production ‘Deltics’ were a powerful Type 5 locomotive, designed for high-speed express passenger services on the East Coast Main Line. No.E43062 No. E43062 was built by British Rail Engineering Limited at Crewe in September 1977 and was outshopped in a BR blue and grey livery. The locomotive was first allocated to the Bounds Green (BN) depot and 43062 was initially part of the 254004 set. It was repainted in an InterCity Swallow livery after a few years in service. As British Railways prepared to be privatised, it sold its HSTs to Virgin in 1997, including 43062. The Class 43 locomotive was repainted in a Virgin red and black livery for use on CrossCountry services. Virgin handed over ten HST power cars in 2002. 43062 was given to Network Rail for use as part of the New Measurement Train (NMT). The locomotive was outshopped in a bright Network Rail yellow livery and because of this, the train was often referred to as the ‘Flying Banana’. The NMT travels at 125mph to monitor and record any faults on the track. 43062 was named ‘John Armitt’ after the chairman of the UK’s National Infrastructure Commission and had a red nameplate fitted. Loram UK won a Network Rail £8-million five-year contract to maintain the NMT in 2020. 43062 was recently overhauled at Loram Derby and returned to traffic in January 2024 with No. 43257 at the rear. No. E43063 No. E43063 was built by British Rail Engineering Limited at Crewe in September 1977 and outshopped in a BR blue and grey livery. Nameplates were fitted at Edinburgh station on 6th January 1997. 43063 ran in service with this name until the nameplates were removed in October 1999. In 2002, Virgin handed over 43063 to FGW who repainted it in a FGW blue and purple livery. Between 2006 and 2007, the locomotive faced an overhaul at Brush Traction and was fitted with an MTU 16V4000 R41 engine. FGW was renamed Great Western Railway in September 2015 and 43063 continued in service under the new name. Six GWR Class 43 HST power cars were stored at the Laira depot in 2020 and 43063 was among them, becoming a spares donor. - TT:120 Scale
