Locomotive Information:
Britannia Pacifics are a post war type of 4-6-2 locomotive designed by Robert Riddles for use by the nationalised British Railways for mixed freight and passenger duties. Fifty five were built at the Crewe Works between 1951 and 1955. Two survive into preservation, 70000 Britannia herself and 70013 Oliver Cromwell. Oliver Cromwell was in fact the last steam locomotive to run a scheduled BR service in 1968.
Britannia Pacific 70050 'Forth of Clyde' was built as part of the third and final batch of BR standard 7mt pacific's (numbering from 70049 - 70054). This later batch was also paired to the BR1D tender type, specification having a 9 ton coal capacity and carrying 4,750 gallons of water making it useful for the longer runs in the north of the Country where these engines worked. These tenders also included a steam operated coal pusher (similar to the LMS design used on Princess Coronation class locomotives). The last few Brit's (70049 to 70054) were also named after various Firth's from Scotland.
