Battle of Britain Class (Rebuilt) 34053 '303 Squadron' BR Lined Green The BR Battle of Britain Class '303 Squadron' model locomotive brings military pride to your model railway layout. Birth of the Railways Train Pack (Railway 200)

Birth of the Railways Train Pack (Railway 200) Representing the formative years of steam-powered railways, these three locomotives were built between 1825 and 1838. The first is ‘Locomotion No. 1’, designed by George and Robert Stephenson. It was built at their factory in Newcastle for the opening of the Stockton & Darlington Railway, where it became the first steam locomotive to pull a passenger train on a public railway. In doing so, it became the first steam locomotive to both operate and haul a passenger-carrying train on a public railway in September 1825. 2025 marks the 200th anniversary. With the experience they gained, Robert Stephenson & Co. entered a design for the 1829 Rainhill Trials, held to find suitable motive power for the Liverpool & Manchester Railway. Their entry, ‘Rocket’, was the clear winner and formed the basis for future steam locomotive design on the L&MR, which opened the following year. By 1838, locomotive design had already moved on, and 0-4-2 No. 57 ‘Lion’, was one of a pair of ‘luggage’ locomotives built to a Stephenson patent by Todd, Kitson & Laird of Leeds, also for the L&MR. Please note: Locomotion No.1 comes fitted with a Next 18-pin socket, but due to the locomotive's size limitations, sadly it cannot take an HM7000 Next 18-pin decoder. BR (Early Emblem), Class 9F 92018 A total of 251 of these heavy-duty freight locomotives were built by BR between January 1954 and March 1960, with construction shared between its Works at Crewe and Swindon who built 198 and 53 of them respectively. No. 92018 went new from Crewe to Wellingborough in October 1954 and was withdrawn from Carlisle Kingmoor in April 1967, after a wastefully short career of just 12 years and five months in service. BR (Early), Class T9 30338 Designed for express passenger work on the London & South Western Railway, 66 of these elegant 4-4-0s were built between 1899 and 1901. Built at the LSWR’s Nine Elms Works, No. 30338 entered service in October 1901 as No. 338 and lasted in service until withdrawn by British Railways in April 1961, having completed a respectable 59 years and six months. This locomotive was the last of the class to be built at Nine Elms and had a wider cab and revised splashers compared to earlier class members. BR Late Thompson Class A2-3 Watling Street No 60521 Of the 15 newly built A2s, only the first, No. 500, emerged from Doncaster under Edward Thompson while he was Chief Mechanical Engineer. That was in May 1946 and, by the end of the following month, Thompson had retired aged 65. The remaining 14 were built under his successor, Arthur Peppercorn, between July 1946 and September 1947. They had planned to build 25 in total, but Peppercorn cancelled the remainder while he made modifications to the design. His new design became the A2 and the Thompson locomotives were designated A2/3s. (Will not operate on analogue) Locomotive information and history: With the nationalisation of Britain’s railways, the ‘Princess Royal’ Class Turbomotive later shed its LMS insignia, to be replaced with the new emblem of British Rail and a black livery shortly after receiving its new crest. After a long period of general repair, Turbomotive returned to the main line in 1947 under the number 46202, continuing its function as a distinct and entirely uniquely designed steam turbine locomotive. In 1949, the locomotive suffered a turbine failure and as result of post-war budgeting of the time, it was best decided to take the locomotive from service and awaiting rebuilding into a convetional design.  Following rebuilding and completion in 1952, 46202 rolled out of Crewe works loooking very different. The rebuilding included the fitting of various Princess Coronation (Duchess) class parts and became a half way between the eariler Princess Royal class and preceding Princess Coronation class. Now in BR green livery and named "Princess Anne", the locomotive wuld only see two months of service before being involved in one of the worst railway disasters ever, at Harrow and Wealdstone. It was scrapped shortly after deemed beyond the point of saving. It is because of 46202 been scrapped, that BR designed and built 8P class "Duke of Gloucester" as a replacement.

BR Standard Class 9F 92031 BR Black (Early)

New to March in Cambridgeshire in November 1954, 92031 was one of 251 ‘standard’ heavy freight locomotives built to the design of Robert Riddles between January 1954 and March 1960. Its working career took it to allocations at New England (Peterborough), Annesley, Westhouses and Newton Heath, Manchester, from where it was withdrawn in January 1967 after an incredibly short working life of just 12 years and almost two months. Scrapped at T.W. Ward at Killamarsh, near Sheffield, the locomotive was always paired with a standard BR1F tender. - DCC Ready 21-Pin Socket - OO Scale

BR, Class 9F, 2-10-0, 92002 Includes: - BR Black livery - Pipework represented in copper or heat lagging - Detailed cab interior - Accessory bag includes steam cocks - Removable coal load - 21 Pin DCC Decoder Socket - Era 4 - OO scale Locomotive information: The British Railways Standard 9F Class was a 2-10-0 steam locomotive, the last of the standardised BR designs. The Robert Riddles design was intended as a long distance heavy express freight locomotive. In total 251 of the class were produced between January 1954 and March 1960, with the final locomotive No. 92220 'Evening Star' being the last steam locomotive built by British Railways. The huge length of the 10 coupled driving wheels proved problematic when faced with tight curves, a situation that freight haulage would make inevitable. A solution was found by removing the flanges from the centre driving wheel and reducing the size on the flanges on the second and fourth driving axle's wheels.  Riddles had chosen the 2-10-0 wheel configuration in-order to spread the load of the boiler over a greater area. This meant that the boiler had to be raised considerably compared to other designs to allow the firebox to sit above the trailing driving wheels. As a result, the 9F features a distinctive void between the suspended boiler and the footplate. In operation the class proved extremely versatile. Not only did the 9F excel as a freight locomotive, but when required it also succeeded as a passenger locomotive. Reports even suggest that when 92220 'Evening Star' was used to pull the Red Dragon express service between Cardiff and London it was forced to delay its arrival to allow the restaurant services to be completed, having outperformed the normal Britannia Class locomotives used on the service.  This was not the only time 9Fs had been recorded outperforming dedicated express locomotives and on such services the locomotives were capable of running at over 90mph. This combination of high speed, fast acceleration and powerful hauling capabilities mean that many consider the class to be pinnacle of British steam locomotive design. Locomotive numbers 92165-92167 were built with a mechanical stoker. This system used a helical screw to move coal from the tender straight into the firebox. This meant that coal could be burnt a faster rate than a fireman could maintain otherwise.  Systems like this proved extremely useful on long distance American railways however in Britain it was rare for a locomotive to require such as high rate of coal delivery over a long period of time meaning that a good fireman could prove just as effective. Locomotive 92002 was the third such locomotive to be constructed by BR, being built at Crewe in 1954. The locomotive was outshopped with the BR1G tender and in the usual BR black colour scheme. The locomotive would go on to be one of the 106 locomotives withdrawn in 1967, the locomotive would not be preserved.

BR, W1 Class 'Hush Hush' Streamlined, 4-6-4, 60700 Includes: - British Railways branding in Gill Sans Font - Garter Blue livery - Accessory bag (drain cocks, pipes) - 2x extra trailing wheels for the Cartazzi truck (if your layout has sufficient curvature) - Accurate cab detail - Double Kylchap double blast-pipe arrangement - Streamlined Non corridor tender type - 21 Pin DCC Decoder Socket - Era 5 - OO scale Locomotive information and history: Having completed nearly 90,000 miles of test running since new, Sir Nigel Gresley's W1 4-6-4 No. 10000 entered Darlington Works on 21 August 1935 for what was anticipated to be a major overhaul and modification. During this period Gresley decided that it was time to rebuild 10000 as a three cylinder locomotive with a conventional firetube boiler. Subsequently, 10000 was moved to the Doncaster Works on 13 October 1936 and this is where the first drawing for the modification were being prepared. When 10000 was finally released from Doncaster Works in November 1937, it was a significantly different locomotive, being fitted with a diagram 111 boiler that was very similar to the diagram 108 boiler fitted to No. 2006 'Wolf of Badenoch', and with a streamlined casing to the same pattern as the A4 class. As many components as possible from the original W1 were used in the rebuild, including the frames, which were shortened by 1 ½ feet at the front end. Other items, where needed, were sourced from the A4 class, the A3 class or, like the front bogie, from the B17 and an experimental double Kylchap blastpipe and chimney was fitted. The locomotive was turned out in Garter Blue as per some of the A4's (in 1937 this became a standard livery). The cab, while similar to that of the A4 class, 60700 was considerably longer and this led to the locomotive's tender's coal delivery chute having to be lengthened to compensate for the extra distance from the firebox doors. The original tender was retained, but with superficial modifications, such as to the curvature of the front plates and the addition of streamlined plating to the front and rear, although this was partially removed just a year later in 1938. Up to the outbreak of war in 1939 and during the war years, 10000 worked mainly on Kings Cross main line duties and with its power and smooth riding it was a popular engine with the LNER's drivers, though less so with the firemen due to the distance between the shovelling plate and the firehole door. The locomotive also became more 'fitter' friendly after April 1942 when the skirting was removed from ahead and behind the outside cylinders to improve access in wartime conditions. At this time the 10000 was painted in wartime Black livery and with only 'N E' on the tender sides. By 1946 and now repainted in Garter blue livery, the corridor tender was swapped for the streamlined non-corridor tender from 4462 (BR 60004) William Whitelaw and the locomotive was engaged in more varied duties, working occasional passenger services to Leeds and Cambridge from Kings Cross alongside the occasional 'lodging' turns to Newcastle. By 1948 under the new British Railways, the locomotive received the number 60700 and "British Railways" insignia on the tender in Gills Sans font. Following allocation to Doncaster on 25 October 1953, 60700 became a more frequent visitor to Leeds and also worked turns to Sheffield, as well as hauling Doncaster to Peterborough passenger services and various braked goods trains. In a similar circumstance to 10000 never receiving its proposed name of 'British Enterprise' in November 1929, 60700 never received its intended name of 'Pegasus', for which the nameplates were cast on 13 April 1951. At this time the locomotive lost its Garter Blue livery for the new "Express Passenger Blue" with white and black lining. After an interesting and slightly troubled life, the locomotive was scrapped at its Darlington birthplace in 1959. Interesting to note is that as 60700 was going into works for scrapping, the original marine boiler the locomotive was fitted with, had been perched on bricks as steam raising boiler outside the works and outlasted the locomotive by a few years.

Dublo: BR (Early) Princess Coronation Duchess of Buccleuch 46230   Also known as the ‘Duchess’ Class, Stanier’s ‘Princess Coronations’ were among the biggest and most powerful express passenger locomotives in Britain.  Thirty-five were built at Crewe Works between 1937 and 1948, many having streamlined casing. Ten were set aside for hauling the prestigious ‘Coronation Scot’ between London Euston and Glasgow. No. 46230 wasn’t one of those, but it was the first of the third batch of locomotives, which consisted of five non-streamlined versions, and went new to Camden in June 1938 as LMS No. 6230.  At Nationalisation in 1948, the locomotive became BR No. 46230 and was painted in lined Brunswick green as depicted by the model. Upon becoming part of the LNER in 1924 the 9Js were reclassified as J11s and this designation stayed remained into British Railways life and until withdrawal. Nicknamed ‘Pom Poms’ because their exhaust noise sounded very similar to the guns of the same name, these freight workhorses are replicated in OO scale by Bachmann Branchline. The J11s carried all the hallmarks of a locomotive designed by the GCR’s Chief Mechanical Engineer John G. Robinson and these features are replicated on the Branchline model using a precision moulded boiler, smokebox and firebox mounted on a diecast metal running plate. The distinctive Robinson cab is another high-fidelity moulding, within which boiler backhead is replicated using an array of separately fitted pipework, controls and dials, all of which are enhanced further with bespoke decoration. The 9Js carried all the hallmarks of a locomotive designed by the GCR’s Chief Mechanical Engineer John G. Robinson and these features are replicated on the Branchline model using a precision moulded boiler, smokebox and firebox mounted on a diecast metal running plate. The distinctive Robinson cab is another high-fidelity moulding, within which boiler backhead is replicated using an array of separately fitted pipework, controls and dials, all of which are enhanced further with bespoke decoration. The GCR tender has a distinctive look too with its high capacity and flared top edges, and again these trademark features are captured in miniature using high-fidelity mouldings. Coupling to the locomotive via a drawbar that is adjustable to suit individual layout conditions, electrical connections are integrated into it and a hinged fallplate is also fitted to the tender. Across the model separate components are added, from the metal handrails and sprung metal buffers, to the lamp irons at the front and rear, to complete the look of this freight machine. The locomotive’s diecast chassis is enhanced with brake blocks, brake rigging and sandboxes with separate wire sandpipes, whilst between the frames a representation of the inside motion is present. The black colour scheme with its ornate three-colour lining is reproduced to exquisite effect, with a rich and consistent finish throughout. The Great Central lettering and company crest on the tender is the icing on the cake, comprising no fewer than six separate colours and replicated using precision printing techniques for full authenticity. The Branchline 9J runs as well as it looks thanks to a power full three pole motor and diecast metal gearbox. The locomotive driving wheels run in separate metal bearings and all six driving wheels are equipped with electrical pickups, tender pickups are included too. GWR Saint Class 2920 'Saint David' BR Lined Black (Early) Of the 77 Saint Class members built by GWR between 1902 and 1913, 2920 ‘Saint David’ was one of the 47 that survived beyond nationalisation of Britain’s railways in 1948. Part of the third batch of 20 to be built in 1907, the locomotive was new to Cardiff Canton shed. It underwent several changes during its career, including the fitting of a superheated boiler in 1909 and outside steam pipes in December 1932. This model is presented in BR livery, the condition in which it operated through to its withdrawal in October 1953, by which point it was one of the last four still in service. This model was developed with the helpful guidance from the Didcot Railway Center who kindly gave us access to their archive of drawings and access to the Lady of Legend locomotive. The first of 155 new locomotives entered traffic in August 1923, while the last was finished at Swindon in August 1950 under British Railways. GWR Saint Class - Lady of Legend 2999 As none of the original ‘Saint’ Class survived into preservation, the last being withdrawn in 1953, the Great Western Society purchased GWR ‘Hall’ Class No. 4942 Maindy Hall from Barry scrapyard in 1974 with the intention of rebuilding it as a ‘Saint’. The ‘Hall’ was a direct development of the ‘Saint’, No. 2925 Saint Martin being used as its prototype in 1924 by Charles B. Collett, Churchward’s successor as Chief Mechanical Engineer at the GWR. GWR Saint Class - Lord Palmer 2975 Entering service in March 1905 as the unnamed No. 175, it was given the name Viscount Churchill in 1907 and numbered 2975 in December 1912. In February 1924, the locomotive was renamed Sir Ernest Palmer, but when Baronet Palmer gained peerage in June 1933, it was subsequently renamed Lord Palmer in the October. LMS Patriot Class 45540 'Sir Robert Turnbull' BR Green (Early)

LMS Patriot Class 45540 'Sir Robert Turnbull' BR Green (Early) This model of BR ‘Patriot’ Class 4-6-0 No. 45540 ‘Sir Robert Turnbull’ is presented in its post-rebuild condition, reflecting its appearance under British Railways ownership. DCC ready with a 21-pin decoder socket, the locomotive is designed with metal sprung buffers and NEM tension lock couplers. History: This locomotive started out as 5901 when it emerged from Crewe Works in August 1933, but was later renumbered to 5540. It was rebuilt with a Stanier taper boiler in October 1947, which promoted it from power class ‘6P’ to ‘7P’. It became 45540 under BR in May 1948 and survived in service until condemned in April 1963 and was scrapped by July that year.  The locomotive’s name, transferred from withdrawn ‘Large Claughton’ 1161, was in honour of Sir Robert Turnbull, former General Manager of the LNWR, who was knighted in 1913. - OO Scale

LMS Patriot Class 5514 'Holyhead' LMS Lined Black This Hornby model of LMS ‘Patriot’ Class 4-6-0 No. 5514 ‘Holyhead’ is finished in accurate period detail as it appeared in the late 1930s. Designed for reliable performance on OO gauge layouts, the locomotive is DCC ready with a 21-pin decoder socket and if fitted with Metal sprung buffers and NEM tension lock couplers. History: Henry Fowler designed the ‘Patriot’ 4-6-0 for the LMS as an upgrade of the LNWR’s ‘Large Claughton’ Class for express passenger work. Built at both Crewe and Derby Works, 42 and ten respectively, 52 entered service between 1930 and 1934. ‘Holyhead’ was new from Crewe in September 1932, numbered 5983, but this was changed to 5514 in August 1938, as represented by the model.  The locomotive would later be rebuilt with a Stanier taper boiler in 1947, before becoming BR 45514, with withdrawal coming at Derby in May 1961, the first of the rebuilt ‘Patriots’ to be condemned. - OO Scale

LMS Stanier 5MT Black 5 5047 Known as ‘Black Fives’, or in Scotland as ‘Hikers’, Stanier’s 5MT 4-6-0s were one of the most numerous classes of locomotives built in the UK, with 842 examples built at a variety of locations, including the railway’s own works at Crewe, Derby and Horwich, plus private builders Vulcan Foundry and Armstrong Whitworth, the latter building by far the most with 327 machines. No. 5047 was built at Vulcan Foundry, Newton-le-Willows in 1935 with a domeless boiler and spent most of its career in Scotland. LNER B12 61516 BR Lined Black (Late)  A shining replica of the BR B12 Class, this OO gauge model is highly detailed, with sprung metal buffers and NEM tension lock couplings. Upgrade to HM7000 with a 21-pin decoder (sold seperately).  Stephen D Holden designed the ‘S69’ inside cylinder 4-6-0s for the Great Eastern Railway. First introduced in 1911, it was the last of 71 built before the Grouping appeared in 1921. However, a further ten were constructed by Beyer, Peacock for the LNER in 1928, by which time they had been designated the ‘B12’ Class.  Built at Stratford Works in 1913, 1516 entered traffic on GER expresses out of London’s Liverpool Street station in the November. In 1924, it was renumbered 8516, then 1516 under the LNER’s 1947 renumbering scheme. LNER B12 8572 LNER Apple Green  This locomotive was one of the final batch of ten ‘B12s’ built by Beyer, Peacock in Manchester in 1928. It was renumbered 1572 by the LNER in 1946, but soon became BR’s 61572 in 1948.  Withdrawn from Norwich Thorpe in September 1961, it was acquired by the Midland & Great Northern Joint Railway Society and moved to the nascent North Norfolk Railway at Sheringham in 1967, where, since completion of its overhaul in 1995, it has been a mainstay of heritage services.  The original is currently out of ticket, undergoing overhaul, so the model is presented in as-preserved condition – the only surviving example of a British inside-cylinder 4-6-0. LNER Streamlined B17 City of London 2870 Gresley developed a three-cylinder 4-6-0 to cope with increased loadings on the LNER’s East Anglian passenger services in the shape of the B17 Class, as he could not use his famous ‘Pacifics’ due to weight constraints. Two of the class were given A4-style streamlining in September 1937 for publicity purposes, including No. 2870 Tottenham Hotspur, which was then renamed City of London. They were designated B17/5s, but the streamlining was removed in April 1951. LNWR G2 9446 LMS Black The London & North Western Railway (LNWR) was known as the Premier Line and one of its premier freight locomotives, in terms of power and ability at least, was the G2 Class, and their later equivalents, the G2As. The Bachmann Branchline model brings the G2 to OO Scale with a high fidelity rendition of the early-twentieth century powerhouse. This model of No. 9446 forms part of our new Railway Celebrations range and depicts the locomotive that took part in the 100th Anniversary celebrations of the opening of the Stockton & Darlington Railway. In 1925, to mark the centenary, a celebration of railways featuring locomotives from the past century was put on by the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER). Opened by the Duke and Duchess of York – later King Geroge VI and Queen Elizabeth – a procession of locomotives took place over some six miles of line between Stockton and Darlington, passing the royal grandstand and delighting the hundreds of thousands of onlookers who turned out to witness the celebrations. The parade of 53 locomotives intended to showcase the evolution of the steam locomotive, from the early examples to modern designs. The first London & North Western Railway (LNWR) 0-8-0 locomotives were built in 1893, however the G2 was somewhat younger, being built between 1921 and 1922 and No. 9446 was one of 60 locomotives built to this design at Crewe Works. Outshopped as LNWR No. 1012, the locomotive was the first G2 to receive London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) numbering, becoming No. 9446 which was applied in June 1925, along with LMS livery with a high gloss finish in preparation for its participation in the centenary celebrations. LSWR Adams T3 560 SR Lined Maunsell Green The first LSWR T3 Class locomotive was built in 1892 and 125 years later, the T3 was thrown into the spotlight when the National Railway Museum donated the sole preserved example, No. 563, to the Swanage Railway Trust. Ever since this controversial move there has been a desire to see a OO scale model of this Victorian masterpiece, and now, we are delighted to fulfil those wishes with this brand-new model developed for Bachmann’s EFE Rail range. Employing a large number of diecast metal components to provide the optimal weight distribution needed for this 4-4-0 locomotive to perform at its best, the EFE Rail T3 is powered by a five pole motor and flywheel which is geared to the rear driving axle. DCC provision comes in the form of a Next18 decoder socket mounted in the tender, where a speaker is also fitted, meanwhile within the cab of the model a firebox lighting system has been installed which operates on both analogue and DCC. An innovative loco-to-tender coupling design provides both integral electrical connections and a close coupling feature, whilst at either end of the model NEM coupling pockets are fitted and sprung metal buffers are mounted on each bufferbeam. Each model sports an array of locomotive- and era-specific detailing as appropriate, all of which is highlighted by the ornate livery application. SECR H Class 161 SECR Green This OO gauge SECR H Class locomotive model is a faithful representation of Harry Wainwright's H Class. With sprung metal buffers and NEM tension lock couplings, this model is DCC ready with an 8-pin socket ready for upgrading to digital control.  Designed by Harry Wainwright, 66 of these locomotives were built for the South Eastern & Chatham Railway at its Ashford Works between 1904 and 1915 for London suburban and semi-fast trains. Southern Rail, T9 302 This locomotive was completed at the London & South Western Railway’s Nine Elms Works in late December 1900. Of the 66 built, 35 of the T9 Class were completed at Nine Elms, with a further 31 examples built by Dübs & Co at Polmadie in Glasgow. Nicknamed ‘Greyhounds’ as they consistently ran at speeds of up to 85mph, the last in service was No. 30120, which is preserved as part of the National Collection. Originally paired with a conventional six-wheel tender, it received an eight-wheel watercart version in July 1935. History The Wiiliam Stanier-designed Class 5 was introduced in 1934 onto the LMS and by the time the last was built in 1951, the class was 842-strong. No. 45473 was completed at Derby in May 1943, entering service as 5473 and spending much of its working life in Scotland, being part of Perth’s allocation at the time of Nationalisation in 1948 and finishing its career at Dundee Tay Bridge. From there, it was withdrawn in November 1966 and subsequently scrapped at W.H. Arnott, Young at Co. Ltd, Carmyle, Glasgow the following February. Stanier 5MT 'Black 5' 45055 BR Lined Black (Early)  Completed in November 1935, this ‘Black Five’ was built at Vulcan Foundry, near Newton-le-Willows in Lancashire.  It spent most of its working career in north-west England and North Wales, though in 1966 it had brief allocations at West Hartlepool and York, before moving back to the Liverpool area and serving at Bank Hall and then Aintree. It almost lasted to the end of steam, withdrawal coming a month shy on 6th July 1968 from Lostock Hall, Preston, with scrapping the following February.  This OO gauge locomotive model features sprung metal buffers and NEM tension lock couplings, and can be upgraded to HM7000 control with a 21-pin decoder (sold separately).
